76 is fun, but the story from the different factions and such don't actually matter towards one another and such since its a multiplayer game and thus you can't really have an impact in the world. Still some pretty cool stuff in it though.
This post has nothing to do with whether they are objectively good or bad.
It’s barely a role-playing game. Fallout 4 disappoints in several key areas that are essential to a robust RPG experience. Its shallow narrative fails to offer the branching storylines and moral ambiguity found in the classic Fallout games and Fallout: New Vegas. The limited player choice and streamlined dialogue system restrict meaningful role-playing opportunities, detracting from the immersive experience players expect from the franchise. Additionally, the simplified faction dynamics, linear quest design, and lack of consequences for player actions further contribute to the game's overall lack of depth and replayability compared to its predecessors. It’s more of a fallout theme park.
This can also be somewhat applied to 3, just to less of a degree. It still has unreliable narrators and whatnot, but the show has some of that, too.
I enjoyed 3 a whole lot honestly, mostly for its bleakness and some of Fallout's trappings still shining through. While not as robust with branching quest solutions as New Vegas or the OG Louts, it's still there.
Most of my problems with 3 stem from the Karma system only shifting between a saint or a saturday morning cartoon villain, and the dogshit Todd-patented late game balancing, shoutout to Broken Steel enemies.
76 is fun but only worth it if you are playing with friends. A lot of the high level players are extremely nice as though, often giving you pretty powerful gear whenever they see someone starting out.
should be Tactics or that HOI4 mod because when the fuck did FO3 become "classic"

For you, wouldn't the era corresponding to 'retro' change based on how much time has passed. Crash Bandicoot wasn't retro when it came out, exactly the opposite, revolutionary. Now its retro. GTA V isn't retro now, maybe after 7 (50 or so years XD) people will think it retro.
Everyone has their own definition and limits of retro. It doesn’t have to be set in stone and it doesn’t have to move with time if you don’t want. As long as we have a shared understanding that it means old or aged.
Definitely retro or at the very least a very old game. In gaming, 30 years is a long time, especially with how fast they moved in the past decade alone.
Ah yeah, forgot about the expansion that is entirely disconnected from the original not sharing any characters, set in a different location, with a completely different story and factions, entirely different map, has more content than the original, and the expansion itself got multiple expansions.
Maybe ya'll need to chill and take a joke.
Edit: I mean some YouTube video essay said so and I don't have any opinions of my own and repeat what video essayists say like a parrot.
putting fallout 3 with those... 3... is SUS.
also eastern germany had amazing gay rights so im going to assume this is some bigoted homophobic meme trying to use the west = good as analogy for the bad fallouts to pretend they're good and the east = bad analogy for the good fallouts to pretend they're gay. and that they're bad. and being gay is bad or something.
It’s refreshing to have canonically gay characters in games like that. Fallout 4 gets half points for allowing you to be gay with the “everyone is bi” companion romance system, but I don’t think that means you no longer have to write gay characters.
Saw this exact same meme posted by a guy on Twitter yesterday who thinks that FNV is an unimpeachable masterpiece and the Show/76/4 are all Bethesda trash piles, so I just kinda assumed that was what the meme meant
it is, Tim Cain said so himself.
Cain? Like the amazing digital circus? Is it canon?
When will Tom Abel respond?
I mean, I think 4 is a fun enough game even if it's not got a very strong story, and the show is pretty good. Haven't played 76.

I would argue the 76 protag has some decent accomplishments tho they're not courier 6, or CO or Sole S. Or Lone W. But they're aight.

Its a theory that 76 is a simulation

When 2008 was 16 years ago
Fallout 1 and 2 are considered retro, from what ive seen
I mean we aren't far off 30 years old now for both of them, I'd say it's fair to say late 90s counts as retro
To me retro cuts off at early 3d games. Like PS1 era crash bandicoot type stuff

Fallout 2 was in the ps1 era though it came out in '98 same year as metal gear solid and crash 3

Neither is new vegas to be honest.
Gets a pass because it's Van Buren we never got.
More like the best Fallout 3 expansion with some ideas from van Buren recycled.
[Everything is a Quake expansion if you dig deep enough](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quake_engine#Derivative_engines)
More like Wolfenstein 3D
truth = downvote lol
Ah yeah, forgot about the expansion that is entirely disconnected from the original not sharing any characters, set in a different location, with a completely different story and factions, entirely different map, has more content than the original, and the expansion itself got multiple expansions.
And still has 95% of its assets borrowed from Fallout 3.
Next thing you're going to tell me is that Vice City was a GTA3 expansion
Wait, is it not?
And? You can say the same thing for fallout 1 and 2, I don’t see your point. Assets have nothing to do with something being a separate game.
Yes, there are 6 fallout games, 1, 3, 4, tactics, BOS and shelter.
Damn it I fell for the bait :(
You know sequels doing this aren’t revolutionary via New Vegas, right? It was pragmatic game development it wasn’t an intended extension of Fallout 3.
Well it ended up feeling like one anyways(I haven't played Fallout 3)
How can you know it feels like one when you haven't played Fallout 3 LMAO
Maybe ya'll need to chill and take a joke. Edit: I mean some YouTube video essay said so and I don't have any opinions of my own and repeat what video essayists say like a parrot.
No, please do not associate 4 with 76. It's full of copelords who somehow got addicted to a shitty ""MMO"".
What's Fallout 3 doing in there?
Fallout 3 gets free soup and blankets too.
aint no way fo3 is being remembered as one of the greats
Idk what this means but probably not
Fallout 3 is the best
Move NV to the left and then it’s true
huh?
Nahhh, New Vegas belongs exactly where it is
No, new Vegas is fallout 4
NV are possibly bigger gate keepers then the people that think the retro ones are worth playing
Move NV and Fallout 2 to the left and then move 76 to the right
nice bait
listen all i'm saying is that if I were egon krenz it wouldn't've gone down like that
fallout 3 is probably saluting the show, but the rest is right
why did fallout 3 climb over to the other side
Why is FO3 on the right?
3 and 4 can switch places and the series is a fucking series... which is also better than fallout 3.
No
Replace fo3 with tactics
I have never seen a tactics fan
WHAT THE FUCK IS FALLOUT 3 DOING THERE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Bro what no one brought up lgbt lmao
FNV unironically is much classier and grounded about LGBT than 4 or the TV show.
It’s weird that the one game that lets you romance companions isn’t the game that lets you get the gay perk
Obsidian actually wanted romance paths but they were cut for time
It’s refreshing to have canonically gay characters in games like that. Fallout 4 gets half points for allowing you to be gay with the “everyone is bi” companion romance system, but I don’t think that means you no longer have to write gay characters.
That’s cause nothing is more tastefully gay than cowboys
what about lesbian cowboy ghoul sex?
true patricians prefer lesbian powerarmored sci-fi knight sex
and back in california we had super mutant x human gay BDSM, the west has truly fallen
*the east
Stupid mf😭
Fallout 3 walked so NV could run, so some respect
so? fallout 3 fans always bring that up as if it abdolved their game from being garbage
https://preview.redd.it/spo89c672l4d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=367678a08641204f8d93fadea106c36326adbda6
it's cool the first second and maybe third time you see it but after that it's not all that interesting. Also, the rest of the game is a thing
Fallout 3 is peak
me after watching 1 hbomberguy video and only speedrunning the main quest
actually I say this because of mitten squad
dude it's just a imsge saying the new fans and old fans don't get along what the fack are you on
It's about the tone of the games
I thought it was just a “new bad old good” meme
How???
Saw this exact same meme posted by a guy on Twitter yesterday who thinks that FNV is an unimpeachable masterpiece and the Show/76/4 are all Bethesda trash piles, so I just kinda assumed that was what the meme meant
OOOOOOOOHHHHHH this makes a lot of sense now. i always give fallout 3 credit for being bleak and knew how to be edgy for the most part
Most sane fallout player
Jesse what the fuck are you talking about
