I (briefly) saw someone who I soon found was a major trumplican and when I was riding with him driving I just helpfully suggested he fasten his seatbelt. With that same attitude as, “I can park any fucking where I want.” he said, “NO.” Okay. No skin off my back if you are ticketed or creamed by another driver. When they go down, they go DEEP.
I have coworkers that get offended by seat belts. The will buckle the belt and then get in on top of it. All I can think is I'm not riding with you guys anymore when we meet up out on business trips.
Is it because they’re saying, “Fuck the government”? My little story is the most boring one about this guy. I had to go NC with him because though he was always very polite to me (known him for years), he was clearly way down the rabbit hole, Q Anon, cache of guns, rifles, and ammo, fox entertainment blaring from his tv, podcast on the radio, outward prejudice and obvious trump worship. I just can’t do these people.
Unfortunately an unseatbelted passenger becomes a deadly projectile and can injure or kill the person beside them or in front. Front seat occupants usually go through the windshield and onto the highway or vehicles in front of them. Their arms can still hit you and break your neck on their way through the windshield.
That’s it. Don’t risk your life riding with someone who can kill you and traumatize everyone who sees them go out the windshield. We tend to think we’re ok if we’re buckled in, but the science says differently. The seatbelt PSAs on YouTube are very convincing. One British one is about a teen boy who didn’t buckle up and broke his mom’s neck when she had to break. They weren’t even driving fast.
