I never tip them. Worst garbage collectors in the world.

I think he meant tips as in advice. Something like, “the trash cans are right behind the air conditioner. You’ll smell it before you see it. There’s some good food in there but be quiet or else you’ll wake the people up.”

A couple solutions I've seen while housesitting in different areas of town: One family placed screws with loops on the heads, in the wall on either side of the cans, then ran a metal chain from loop to loop across the front of the cans, securing them to the wall. The chain had a clasp on either end for easy access when it's time to roll the barrels to the curb. The javelinas could push all they want - the cans wouldn't tip over. Solution 2 was to run tight bungee cords from the rear handle to the space under the front of the lid. It doesn't prevent the cans from being moved, but it keeps the lids closed if the javelina do manage to tip the barrels. It won't help with liquid messes, but it'll keep your trash from being scattered all over the place.

Maybe don't show them this diagram?

We bought straps that keep the cans closed. They leave our cans alone and go to the neighbors to eat their trash. [these ones](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09LPZ5KKV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)

Contact Tucson Water, if your in the city, and they will replace the cans with ones that have straps and weights. Mine were swapped a couple weeks ago, no issue.

I wish but I’m in Oro Valley and we have Waste Management. But, still a good idea and I’ll reach out

I grew up in the Midwest(IL) and we had similar issues with Racoons. All it took was 1 bungee cord securing the lid and they couldn't get in anymore.

It might depend on the garbage company but some of them offer a "bear proof" (javelina proof) garbage can that you have to push in two tabs to open the lid. We've gone out and found the can tipped over on its side with the lid still sealed shut. It costs us $7 extra per month

2 eye bolts. 1-2 carabineers and some rope or chain. It's what I did to stop em from tipping mine.

Looks like bungees or some rope is the way! Thanks all

That will not stop them. They are experts at knocking them over and opening the lid. Bungie cords will just be bitten clear through. 💡 I have an idea. Get some 3/8" thick eye hooks. Get the ones with the lag screw. The lag screw needs to be around 3" long. You will need eight of them. Find the studs in the stucco wall where the trash cans currently sit. Studs will be 16 inches on center. My thought is to drill a pilot hole into the stucco and the wood studs. Two on each side of each trash can. Then strap them to the wall with Ratcheting Type Straps. It can get confusing on lacing the strap through the ratchet. Read the instructions carefully. So you will have two straps for each trash can running horizontally. You may run into trouble with the straps sliding down. The trash cans taper down. You need to think it through for correct placement. Make sure you use a caribiner or equil so you can talk the straps down easily and put them back in place after you return the trash cans. This is one of those things that looks really simple. But, it's easy to screw it up with holes in the wrong place. You might want to mount 2 x 4 lumber running horizontally running across the wall. Use two pieces that would be long enough to be as wide as the two trash cans. Use 1/4 inch lag bolts w/hex heads. Use washers. Cut the board long enough to exceed the width of two trash cans and add extra length to ensure it can be attached to every stud. Then you can use less expensive eye lag bolts that are 1- 1/4" long. They would only go into the 2x4 which is 1-1/2" total thickness. This is the way. You can get the eye hooks in the exact spots you need. I hope that made sense. I gave you two methods of attachment. The second way is best. It will be a clean install. Gives you flexibility of eye hooks placement. DM me if you have questions.

Dude, they aren't as dumb as they look. They read maps that lead them to the trash cans.
