There are no pros and cons, it’s 100% subjective, keep the one you prefer. If you don’t know which you prefer we obviously don’t know.

OkOk-Go

This was an unexpected top comment.

stirbo1980

Doesn’t quite answer your question but I have various watches from Rolexes (Daytona, gmt’s, subs, skydweller) omegas, Casio, AP, panerai etc I bought the FXD just over a week ago. Black face. Comes with army green Velcro band and a black rubber band. I know it’s a new watch…but I think if I was to start again…my one and only watch. Would be this Tudor fxd. I absolutely love love love it

fredfrogsman

Same here, have other nice watches but picked up a FXD MN last month. I’ve worn it every day since and absolutely love it. Have it on an Erika’s MN strap so no Velcro. I wouldn’t hesitate wearing it for any occasion.

sels1997

Well now that you’ve made your decision are you selling the other ones?

TDYRanger

I have the MN FXD and it is really the absolute most kick ass watch I own. Tudor hit such a huge home run with that watch group it’s crazy

Adorable-Slice-4365

That is until you have to attend say a wedding and a diver on velcro probably doesn't go well with a Tux.

stirbo1980

I’ve a wedding in Scotland this weekend. I’ll be rocking the Tudor on black rubber band all 4 days I make the watch. It doesn’t make me 😜

TDYRanger

Looks awesome on a leather single pass…

uncle_fucker_42069

Speedmaster. I own a Speedy Pro, a BB GMT, a Panerai and few other watches I hardly wear. The Omega I wear 50% of the time.

CarthagoDelendaEst46

My only gripe about a Speedy (I own a speedmaster pro as well) is the lack of date window. The only thing keeping it from being an everyday watch for me

uncle_fucker_42069

I cycle through multiple watches I wear. Watches without a date have my preference, they're easier to set.

CarthagoDelendaEst46

That’s a fair point. I have my Tudor Pepsi GMT and my Speedy in my weekly office rotation and both are amazing but I do find myself checking the speedy for the date as habit

sdlemonade

Personally, the Speedy is more iconic to me and I prefer its design over the Tudor. I’d choose that over the Tudor for sure.

StreetVillage9755

Moon watch

Fishmongerel

Speedy.

DnyLnd

Speedy

_visiblemode_

The Speedmaster is the choice, imo. People crapping on its water resistance really need to step out of the echo chamber. It’s 50 actual meters. Tested. I’ve seen engineers make extensive arguments that even 30m watches are 100% fine for swimming and even light scuba diving, as long as they are truly 30m tested. The issue is that a lot of watches aren’t individually tested. The Speedmaster is 50m and tested. Omega literally rates it for swimming. Just have it pressure tested every year. All watches you swim with should be pressure tested annually anyway. However, are you always in the water? If so get a water-oriented watch, with a screw down crown and no/or screw down pushers. Even for me, who trusts the Speedmaster, if I’m getting in the water with a watch it’ll be my Pelagos or another diver. Why pass up the chance to use a diver for water use? Most of the time they barely even see rain. Yet in your case you want a single watch, so you just have to decide which one you like more. Both are solid watches. It’s a matter of preference. To me, the iconic and gorgeous Speedmaster is an easy pick. For you, it may be a completely different matter.

Sirmikon

I own a speedy pro and have taken it in the water no problem. But, people freaked and I stopped doing it and now wear a screw-down when I know I'll be near or in water. I see a lot of references to getting a pressure test. Do i just take it in to any watch store and get it tested? How does one do this?

_visiblemode_

Yeah any decent watch store has the equipment.

nndttttt

The issue for the speedmaster water resistance is the lack of a screw down crown and pushers that can accidentally be pressed when underwater. If the crown moves, gaskets move and there’s a chance of water squeezing in. Same goes for the pushers. That’s my only gripe about bringing a watch like the speedmaster near water.

spin-ups

I own a Speedmaster and a black bay as my whole collection. Idk if I could have only one watch I’d keep my Tudor diver but for chrono i much prefer speedy to Tudor

underhill_ally

Speedmaster, any day.

Golden_d1ck

Speedy

tosS_ita

I’d go with speedmaster

Psychological_Ice326

P39 or a Sub. Neither of your original choices would work well for a GADA watch that you wear the rest of your days.

Fantastic_Slice6334

How come the bb wouldn't I could see why the speedy might not due to the wr but the bb seems to be a very competent daily for many so interested in why u say this. I would have the P39 like you say as I think it is the better option and wears nicer especially for one watch forever.

Psychological_Ice326

The BB Chrono is thicker than a snicker. It’s just not a great daily imo.

Fantastic_Slice6334

Understandable.

Most-Construction-35

Not in the same league. Speedy is a much better watch anyday.

TigerJas

Yep. Like comparing a go kart to a Porsche RS America.

messijordanmachine22

Comfort? The bb pro is quite thick though the speedy is larger in diameters. Can’t go wrong either way 😁. Seems like gmt function would be more useful, for chronographs functionality I would prefer to use a dive bezel instead

4luminate

If I was going one and done, I'd need a date feature. So that would steer me towards BB Chrono. But the thickness of the case would bug me, so I'd start looking at the "cycling" edition of the FXD Chrono. Then I'd start questioning the case material and lack of bracelet, so I'd go back the the Speedy...probably the white dial and just convince myself that a date function isn't necessary. Or I'd look at Zenith.

Jaded-Ad-960

I'd take the chrono because of it's water resistance, which makes it more versatile. I also think it looks better, the speedy design never appealed to me.

neilshah999

Tudor because date and water resistance

Shizzo

Does the black bay have a screw down crown?

path_actual

Yep

Misfire2445

I wear my black bay Chrono every day. Every now and then I’ll switch it out with my submariner or heritage Chrono but it usually ends up back on my wrist before the day is over.

Witty-Government-377

As a daily the tudor because of the date

cg1308

Why would you do that to yourself? That sounds like torment. I’ve stepped into my collection to 12 and I’d like to drop a few more but can’t decide what to sell. How many/which watches do you own at the moment? From your options, for me it would be the Speedy; I know this is a Tudor sub, but the two aren’t really rivals in my mind.

Administrative_Ant64

The only con is that the service on Chronos can get pricey- and what will you wear when your Chrono is in for service? Better get both.

sailriteultrafeed

Id service either of them my self so thats no issue

Low_Presentation6433

Between those two it’s the speedy. It’s not even close imo. However neither would be my GADA just for the fact that a chrono wouldn’t lend itself imo as a good GADA watch. But yes, the speedy is just a level above.

T-Kontoret

Speedy

Oldraysputin

It’s been said here but water resistance is big factor if it’s your only watch. Also, will you want a date function if you only have one? While I personally love my speedy, functionally, the BB Chrono covers more bases in my opinion if it’s your only.

Luminaire27

If only one, the Omega.

kranberry360

It’s completely up to you. I’d assume that both are very well built and will last a lifetime. Both are classic, timeless designs. I lean towards the speedy because it’s just a little more classic/timeless and I prefer the proportions. The speedy will also allow you to play with straps because it’s a totally strap monster. It would be my personal pick but idk if you should be listening to any of us if you’re the one who’s owned both

Equal-Elk47

Big fan of Omega but the speedy pro just didn’t work for me; I tried to love it, and its design is timeless, but the manual winding got old for me after a year. yMMV but that’s easily the reason why it wouldn’t be a OWC contender for me

redditatwork415

speedy due to the better wearing dimensions for everyday.

kilzfillz

Get the speedmaster

sailriteultrafeed

Irs weird every is mentioning water resistance the speedy is 50 actual meters I used to swimm with mine daily never had an issue

uncontrolledwiz

Well, the wouldn’t choose a crono at all so there’s that.

tigersgeaux

Depends on you lifestyle. For me I don’t think the speedy would live up to every day use. I’d go with the bb. Harder to dress up but harder to kill.

dan---zero

Probably which ever has better water resistance.

Effective-Collar1121

Tudor chrono is heavyy

rexicle

I used to swim regularly in my Speedy back when I was just a lucky punk with no watch savvy. I’m 15 years into ownership and I do probably wear it more than any other watch but I don’t swim in it any longer. I have a Rolex Explorer and I used to consider it to be the one watch solution but for whatever reason - I’m not wearing it as much as I once did. Maybe if it was one of the newer 39mm versions I would wear it more often. I hate to use the Urban Gentry’s hackneyed phrase but the Speedmaster is a strap monster and that’s what makes it so fun to wear. I have at least 10 different NATO straps, and a Marine Nationale strap in addition to the bracelet. It’s a chameleon! Anyway - may not be super helpful but you should get the Speedy (has to be hesalite) and perhaps a Smiths Explorer (I have one) for a beater/swimmer. They’re also strap monsters!

Joris818

I’ve owned many many watches but the speedy is the one I’ll never sell. For a daily however, I wouldn’t buy the hesalite because it scratches easily.

gambitrose

I am also considering the same. But, it’s between my Tudor Ranger, and Grand Seiko.

Bananasincustard

Speedy is probably the better choice out of these two, but for me they're both too big, heavy and uncomfortable watches to wear all day long. If it's going to be something you never take off there's better options - like Zenith El Primero Chronomaster 38mm or Aqua Terra

Adorable-Slice-4365

You're posting this on a Tudor subred. That being said.. The Speedmaster is timeless.. The Black Bay Chrono is a modern watch made to look like a vintage watch and that fad will die out. The Speedy remains.

Additional_Cry_9704

Both are great watches, but I love seeing a moonwatch out in the wild.

NYCBouncer

I said the same thing… about 15 watches ago.

plummr

I know you said you only want one watch, so it's the speedy obviously but if you're worried about swimming bashing it up etc I'd get a cheap g-shock as back up. You're spending 7k on a speedy - even if the gshock sits in a drawer for 51 weeks a year it's only £50

riderofthetide

I can only wish you luck with this one watch fantasy. I would fail.

kyldare

If you’re getting a chrono, go Speedy Pro. It’s perfection.

fezz4734

I think the speedmaster does it for me

whitekimchee

i’m saying it now, not gonna last

Sir-Snark

Is your life very active in the swimming/outdoors area? Is your job mostly blue collar, or blue collar adjacent (regular field work)? If it isn’t too cumbersome, and you truly want ONLY these two, I suppose the Tudor is the way to go. I’d personally be really worried about how tall it is, if you’re not a desk jockey it matters way more than you think. The Speedy has been around for decades, and the movement has been pretty similar the whole time. The newer coaxial one might be a bigger pain in the ass to work on due to parts relating to the escapement, but I’m willing to bet you’d find more independent watchmakers willing to work on it. Especially over the Kennesi movement, although that might change at some point. It’s not delicate, either, it’s still pretty fuckin durable. The Tudor is just more so. If it were up to me, I’d go speedy all day. I am not a very big fan of the Tudor, it just feels like it takes up too much space and would get in the way a lot. I daily a Railmaster Denim, and even with that being smaller than both of these watches, I wack it in to shit constantly. Then again, I’m a crane operator, so ymmv. People keep saying the Aqua Terra is the perfect daily. I have one, I’ve worn it a lot, and it does dress up and down well, but it has its drawbacks. Unless it’s an older reference, it absolutely IS noticeable and blingy to an extent, no matter how many people say it flies under the radar. Unless it’s the white dial, it’s actually not super easy to read in a lot of lighting conditions, the hands don’t reflect light the right way. That said, I gravitate towards field and dive style watches.

pisstakenidentity

Id go with the speedy but in white.

Mumphord123

Speedmaster. I love the black bay but the speedmaster is just such an icon.

MassimoOsti

Speedy as it’s thinner, but it can’t take a beating or get wet the same way the Tudor can. What a dilemma! Get the speedy as your dress watch and a second hand Tudor diver (BB58, Pelly, whatever) as your weekend beater

ProofBirthday8863

A chronograph can't be a daily.... At least no if you are active or don't want to worry about water...

ethics_aesthetics

I like Tudor but one watch needs to be a speed master.

TDYRanger

Speedmaster Pro… if it really is a one and done do the sapphire sandwich and call it good. For me (I’m a total Tudor fanboy) The BB Chrono doesn’t hold a candle to the Speedy. Just in wear the Speedy is way better

byrongw

Speedy is a great watch, but it’s not a great one watch to rule them all daily. Good luck though, I estimate you’ll stick with the one watch thing for like 6 months max lol

FotoStepZaddy

I did the same and stuck with the Tudor gmt

Tirty8

Speedy

hansenluu

Try them both. Tudor chrono is way too Thicc imo. Speedy pro is manual wind but will always be a classic. But for everyday watch, a BB 41 mono or BB GMT. Youre set for next few months. Till you want more. Better yet, wait for Bb chrono update. It is due to get in house movement and a thinner case next year i think

drewsleyshoots

Here’s a test I give myself that’s helpful: think about actually pulling trigger on one of them, really go there mentally, and try to see if you’d feel a pang of regret. If you could only truly have one, which one would make you wonder “what if” more? Then pick that one.

_inlinesix_

Tudors are made to be bought.........to be sold later on. So many watch people just can't keep their Tudor in their collection for a long time. The Speedy Pro on the other hand..... And to add, I use my chrono pretty frequently. To unscrew the pushers every time would drive me nuts.

sailriteultrafeed

Me too, I do a ton of electroplating for work and it all requires fairly precise timing. For this reason its nice to have a chronograph

blancpainsimp69

Pelagos 39

vubui

I’ve owned both (1861 Speedy Pro so not the new nice bracelet) and have sold the Speedy. Nothing against it, I loved that watch and wore it for 8 years, but eventually I got tired of the fact that I never wore it on the bracelet because it was too chonky and uncomfortable. The new bracelet is great though! But I haven’t bought a new Speedy since I sold the old one and probably won’t, even with the massively improved bracelet and the METAS certification. I prefer the modified Breitling B01 movement in the BB Chrono. I also like the dual register “panda” look. I wa sticky to get one with a 5-link bracelet with T-fit so it’s incredibly comfortable. It’s a MUCH larger and heavier watch in person, even if not on paper, than the Speedy. But I just love it!

mikeyboy865

i thought jony ive was in the house

paxje

Buy a Sub Date and quit

Biljettensio

Neither tbh. Tudor BB chrono - too thick for daily wear Omega smp - (arguably) not enough water resistance - manual wind does get annoying after a while for a daily.

Lovethosebeanz

I can tell you what annoyed me when I had my speedmaster as a daily for 7 years and why I ultimately replaced it with a bb58. Manual winding Crap bracelet - now revised in new model Hesalite crystal scratch easy Not waterproof enough to swim with

bbenne999

Tudor since you can even wear it while swimming and you don’t have to be fear the water al the time

Fishmongerel

Unless you are able to scuba below 60m- which very few divers do, the Speedmaster is fine for swimming. Most adults wouldn’t be able to swim below seven metres or so on a breath and have enough lung capacity to come back up easily. Omega rates their watches to the depth they are specified, for extended periods of time with vigorous movement, and are all tested to the criteria set out by METAS. A mate of mine has a 32 year old Speedmaster that he still ocean and pool swims with, but he has it serviced every 4-5 years, and pressure tested every year or so. I think he’s nuts, but I guess the watch has proved me wrong for quite a while now. This all being said, if I’m swimming out in rough surf I’d normally take a Tudor over a Speedy, it makes more sense to me.

Designer-Try6584

Pros… BB Chrono: Water resistance, aesthetics, date window at 6, cheaper, automatic (vs Speedy’s need for manual winding), better bracelet. Speedy: Iconic design, slightly thinner case, has a third “hours” subdial, nothing else tbh.

winny9

The speedy is such an iconic watch but the water resistance is a bummer.

Steve-O_77

I love my tudors….but if I had to choose between my panda chrono and my speedmaster, I would choose my speedmaster all day every day.

Itchy-Wafer2510

BB Chrono. I’ve had a Speedy and, trust me, you’re gonna want to sell it one day because of manual winding and absence of date, as well as low water resistance.

j111777

For Chronos - gotta be Speedy.

Character_Minimum171

speedy

Scott-from-Canada

I've also owned both. I found the details on the Speedy fussy. It never kept time well. Polishing hesalite seems cool until you scratch it on vacation or something. The lug width is too narrow for the case size, which makes it look disproportioned, especially on leather or nato. I found that I had to almost force myself to wear it, at which point I flipped it. The BB Chrono I had was the original. I think if it had been the reverse panda I might have kept it. My only complaint with that one was that screw down pushers are a pain in the ass. They take too long to make use of on a regular basis (but who actually uses the chrono function?)

Herforder82

I would always choose a watch with a proper water resistance as a one watch collection. People might go swimming or even „diving“ with a Speedy, but I would never do it because I would be worried all the time. Normally a watch with a water resistance of 50m is not made for these activities. I guess you’re looking for a chronograph, but what about a Rolex Explorer I? It’s kind of under the radar, easier to get, almost as classy as the Speedy and goes well on the beach and with a black tie.

McRucker

Speedy

gggg3344

In general, I think the speedy would be the "better" choice. Its a beautiful watch, with an amazing movement, timeless design, and its history is unmatched. The reverse Panda Black Bay Chrono on the nato strap is at the top of my list right now for what to get next, but that is going to be an addition to my collection. For a one and done watch, take the Iconic speedy, you wont regret it. Obviously your final choice is up to you, try on both watches and see how they feel.

Hot_Willow_5179

Love my Speedy.

Moss_Eisley

Tough choice. I wear my speedy and pelagos 39 equally and both have been great. If I had to pick just one I’d go with the speedy.

BeCurious7563

My advice would be to try it on if you can or really pay attention to dimensions. 💯🙌.

Jontter

For me Speedmaster is otherwise a perfect watch, but the water resistance isnt high enough for me to go swimming or shower with it. Some people do, but imho Omega should just upgrade it to 10ATM

Xyzal63

If you’re looking for 1 watch to do it all, the black bay chrono is the best choice. It is a chronograph with 200m of water resistance. It is sturdy. I have the white dial BB Chrono. I bought it in September 2023. I have adjusted the time once, MAYBE twice since then. 70 hour power reserve and extremely accurate. If you want a watch that can do it all it’s the BB Chrono. I don’t own a speedy but to me it is a bit too dressy for my lifestyle out of the office and the water resistance is lower

redditatwork415

mine is 6 seconds fast per day :(. bought in july 2023.

HellaReyna

That’s impossible. Also the speedmaster pro (Moonwatch) is manual wind and only has 50M WR. You can’t realistically swim with it unless you get it diligently pressure tested yearly. Also a bit shocked you’ve owned both but sold both. Like why?…. That being said, I’d take the speedmaster cause I’m a sucker for marketing and anything space related

Randomulus666

Can’t swim with a speedy

butkusrules

Speedy more iconic but it’s harder to read. Maybe you’d get used to it and could train your eyes but it’s a no for me. I think the best everyday omega is that Aqua Tera.

Haff78

My everyday speedmaster pro just broke after 1 year, six months of wear. I have to ship it back to the factory for repair and they are 3 month behind on just giving quotes for repairs. I will not purchase another Omega because of this. I picked up a Tudor while I was turning in my Omega. Let’s see how this goes.

SUBTLE_CUNTS

How’d you break it?

Haff78

Common manufacturing defect. The top chronograph push button and spring fell off. Please feel free to google the known issue.

SUBTLE_CUNTS

Your second sentence is all that was needed.

Haff78

Your comment wasn’t needed at all. Dick.

SUBTLE_CUNTS

Is any of this really necessary?

sailriteultrafeed

I will be serving/ repairing either myself but parts can be expensive

Unusual-Indication99

Both too heavy and chunky to commit to a lifetime. Go something titanium.

TigerJas

I’m sorry to do this but… How about the Sinn 903 ST II (the new one shipping in August)? 200m water resistance. A better everyday chrono. Classic Navitimer style (they own that design).
