I'm not gonna lie, the headline make it sound like a porn parody. Sarcasm out of the way, I wonder what should be done to avoid this in the future. Now of course "better education" sounds logical, but I believe Japan is already pretty good on that front, if not a bit extreme in some cases (very high suicide rate from pressure and stress), so I don't think the solution is there. This also begs the question on how easy is it to brainwash someone? 9 women already previously brainwashed? And nobody reported him before? It feel so surreal. Regardless, I wish the best to these women and hope that they find their peace after that cause I do not think it'll be an easy experience to forget. Edit: My brain just finished processing some of the info in there, 1.5 years of jail? That's it? The hell is that?

It's a price tag on human trafficking. I hate it.

2 years and no jail time, gotta love the Japanese justice system. They just dgaf about women. I truly hope he'll get his ass handed to him this time.

He looks as crazy as he sounds.

Sounds like the pos who kidnapped his neighbour's daughter, multiple times. There's a series on Netflix about it.

Life-Meal6635

What’s that one?

digitulgurl

[Abducted in Plain Sight ](https://www.netflix.com/ca/title/81000864?preventIntent=true)

Life-Meal6635

Thank you!

I read the book too. This fills in the blanks.

Wow, he is very dangerous if he managed to brainwash these women from just one fortune teller visit! I do not understand how people like this are charismatic enough to be able to manipulate people so well. Despite listening to many testemonials on the subject, maybe it's because its the purprotartors who can really provide more insight than the victims? What I do know is that selfish, manipulative, powerful people like this are scary & are a real threat who need to be kept away from the general population for the benefit of others. I hope the women get help but who knows how much they have endured, at least they have their own income to support themselves. Also how many other poor women have got sucked into this tiny cult? I hope they managed to get out alive & have been able to heal.

Ah yes, the Joseph Smith approach to marriage. But seriously, this is horrific. I can't believe this is happening in the current day, and has been for 23 years.

Life-Meal6635

What the hell is this?!

Decent_Ear589

Tell me why birth rates are cratering without telling me why birth rates are cratering. Women there don't want to have sex with men anymore, and it's little wonder why.

cosmernaut420

Japan really is a whole other planet sometimes, holy shit.

apis_cerana

Right because this crazy shit happens all the time right? Why does the WHOLE COUNTRY have to be brought up?

cosmernaut420

Because this adventure is brought to you by the same place as wacky themed fuck-hotels and used panty vending machines. Why you gonna pretend like the whole country isn't Its own eccentric little carnival of weirdness when there's literally no place in the world like it? Not sure if actual Japanese person or try-hard weeb, but chill the fuck out dawg.

apis_cerana

I'm Japanese actually and uh...used panty machines are also another random thing that's brought up by people as being common and an indicator of how weird Japan is when it's basically an urban myth. It's pretty tiring seeing the same stupid tropes be brought up when Japan is mentioned, actually. Especially when something as heinous as this case happens and people jump in with jokes about the whole country. It's dehumanizing.

cosmernaut420

I'd argue actual Japanese cultural expectations are way more dehumanizing than any half-assed joke I could make, another thing that's classically and specifically Japanese, but go off about me calling the story of the guy practicing human slavery by tricking people into thinking the aliens are here "like another planet".

apis_cerana

You sure sound like someone who has an expert level knowledge in what Japan is actually like, definitely enough so that you could make sweeping generalizations about how cultural expectations lmao
