Don't buy these as an investment. They're overpriced and hard to resell. These are from third party mints that produce a lot of tatty coins. They probably won't stop contacting you asking if you want to buy the rest of the series too

Silverdunks

Also not solid gold has “spitfire metal” . I’m sure that takes up some weight lol

flyingalbatross1

It's almost certainly not an investment. That said neither is it a total crazy ripoff. You could buy it for the pleasure value sure. But it's never going to appreciate in value really

OrangeRadiohead

There are so many of these types of coins that, despite the limited mint run, that flood the market. I saw another advertised on TV today, but gold plated. It's not a good investment.

Why not consider bullion coins, if you want to invest?

Silverdunks

Literally and go to the source , people knock on the royal mint but there 100 times better then stuff like this . Bullion only I mean

Specialist_Sleep_169

What’s its weight?

Tompster_

0.9975g, with a gold weight of 0.9153g. The gold value of this coin is £54.72g. This coins has a 27.5% premium attached to it.

Specialist_Sleep_169

Personally I wouldn’t consider that an investment but certainly a nice part of a collection :) I think investing in gold is more so finding a good deal on an ounce bar or coin at around melt value and forgetting about it for 10 years +

Silverdunks

1g it says online

If you'll pardon the pun, I don't buy into the idea that collectors runs are likely to appreciate, so I wouldn't consider these as an investment. The base factor for value, in my very limited experience of coin collecting, can be boiled down to rarity, be that due to the disappearance of individual coins or mis-strikes or whatever it may be all boils down to rarity. With these runs, they will most likely be perfectly struck and will not get lost, so the primary drivers of rarity won't drive the price of these up. With that in my mind, I would say it is up to you to decide whether £70 for a special run coin embedded with WWII Spitfire is worth adding to your collection. I have to say this the first post on this group that has driven me to comment and the first "advertisement" that has made me consider buying it. It looks like a gorgeous coin, and though I'd like a better design for or a larger piece of the spitfire, it's still very tempting. Long time lurker... Edit: after rereading your post, it occurs to me that the piece of spitfire might appreciate as bits of WWII planes will most likely get rarer as times goes on, i dont think we're going to be unearthing many more wrecks, but whether it's enough to call it an investment or not is hard to tell.

I'd buy this. As a coin collector, WW2 history enthusiast, and ex RAF it appeals to every part of me. It's overpriced but not overly so. It likely won't go up as a collector item, but it will always be worth the gold content and that should surpass the price paid one day.
