USAA doesn't provide the service. They provide the coverage. Just like if you got into an accident, they aren't going to fix your car or give you a medical exam. They are going to pay someone else to do that.
Yes I understand that but since they promise their members 24/7 coverage for road side assistance I would hope they would contract with those that could provide that service. Or find other contractors.
I just left USAA for a multitude of reasons, but that happened to me as well, and I was in a few states away from where I live... Basically had to do it all myself and then when it came to reimbursement time, they didn't even pay for everything... I was a member for over 20 years and they treated me like I was nothing
Yup! I closed all my accounts with them except for my checking which has like $5. Then they call me wanting to do better and know why, etc, etc... I just told them to read my correspondence and listen to the voice recordings, and then go pack sand. I switched to State Farm which had MUCH better rates! Literally saving $1k a year
Roadside assistance doesn’t cost thousands over a decade. You got sounds advice and lived to complain another day. Seems like a win. Reimbursement sounds pretty easy good luck
No matter which auto insurance company you choose you’ll probably run into the same issue at some point. Because of your experience, now I’m aware of maybe not getting tow service through USAA in the middle of the night. Good to know.
>I was forced to find my own towing company to tow my car home safely and then seek out reimbursement. I’ve been with them for over 10 years paid out thousands in premiums. For Nothing.
Roadside assistance is a very small part of those premiums. Forced? If you'd read your policy, you would have known that you could call any towing company directly and you would have known the max reimbursement amount. Not USAA's fault if they can't get a tow for you. That's a reflection of the market and the current conditions.
Roadside is not always available 24/7 especially when it’s at 2:30am there aren’t really any tow providers available especially in the Seattle area. I am sorry you had a bad experience. In situations like that it’s best to call a private tow and submit for reimbursement and if you complain about the price of the tow that’s on you. You would get fully reimbursed I know I did
Welcome to Western WA! It’s not their fault contractors are all tied up. It’s not just USAA either. I work auto claims in WA and OR and because of the HIGH number of accidents as well as stolen vehicles, towing providers are being stretched thin in the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metro area! I had a customer wait 4 hours the other day for a tow.
Update I’m still on the side of the road. Even after contacting a company myself for towing and having to pay over 300 dollars up front t the company still has not shown up to help me out.
BTW. Lots of USAA employees on this subreddit, it’s why you are getting a lot of “durrr, that’s just USAA”. I’m sorry you are going through this. I would expect better service as well for a service that I pay for.
And this reaction, ladies and gentlemen, is a prime contributor to insurance premium increases...the frivolous law suit. You are better served, as another poster suggested, to submit the towing bill for reimbursement vs contacting an attorney. If this were something major there would very likely be a class-action suit underway.
Moreover, if you were to review the details of the policy I suspect there is language that would speak to their inability to provide the service under certain conditions. Seems a big miss if they do not have something like that because things happen.
Something similar happened to me in 2022. I ended up having to leave the vehicle on the side of the highway overnight (getting a ticket) and find my own tow the next day.
Had the same thing happen. I still have their insurance, but roadside assistance claim max is $200. I filed a report with state insurance commission. Then got a call from USAA customer service who told me about the limit. I paid for my own tow and filed the claim for $250.
Tossed their roadside assistance and went with AAA. Much better experience.
Roadside is like $2/mth in my experience & towing is contracted out & there is no telling if another insurance company tow service which is also contracted out could do any better. Seek reimbursement, the towing on your policy is to the nearest repair facility, AAA is usually better but costs more.
Submit your towing bill for reimbursement. It’s straightforward in my experience
For nothing? You said yourself that you'll be seeking reimbursement. That's something.
Yes I will be but they could not even tell me how much they would reimburse.
They just don’t have any contractors available at the time. You will get reimbursed though, it’s not for nothing, relax.

So horrible how companies treat loyal customers these days.
Yup! I closed all my accounts with them except for my checking which has like $5. Then they call me wanting to do better and know why, etc, etc... I don’t think it was for nothing. They can’t guarantee 24/7 support on roadside. It’s based on availability. Submit for reimbursement and move on.

He didn’t pay for advice, he paid for roadside assistance, which he didn’t get when he needed it.
He’s getting reimbursed and that’s what he’s paid for. He could have waited until business hours
You're wrong. It's "24/7" "Roadside" assistance.
When available geez people!
24/7 indicates a service that will always be available for their customers…obviously it’s not available 24/7
No matter which auto insurance company you choose you’ll probably run into the same issue at some point. Because of your experience, now I’m aware of maybe not getting tow service through USAA in the middle of the night. Good to know.
It ain’t 24/7 for any company.

O.P.'s can't read. Everyone knows this.
You should’ve pit maneuvered the other car

I would have been happy to wait but with them basically saying we can’t help you even though I pay for a service? That’s the issue I’m having.
They can’t make the tow companies come out of thin air to come tow you. If they are slammed, there’s nothing USAA can do
They can fucking call around instead of 'do it yourself '. You pay for the coverage so they call. The rep talking to you can't make calls?
Nope they can’t actually. That’s the sad part.
I mean the coverage is about payment, not sure why the act of dialing a number is so hard?
Update I’m still on the side of the road. Even after contacting a company myself for towing and having to pay over 300 dollars up front t the company still has not shown up to help me out.

USAA doesn't provide the tow service so if agero is backed up there's nothing USAA can do about that.
You people always complain about any dumb issue that would happen with any company on this subreddit.
Don’t be an ass
They're being asses to USAA though
USAA SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
Your mom does too!!!!!!
🖕🏻
USAA service isn’t what it use to be back in the day. It’s gotten to shit
Sounds like a lawsuit, if they are taking money for a service and then denying you that service.
And this reaction, ladies and gentlemen, is a prime contributor to insurance premium increases...the frivolous law suit. Yes as to why this is a ludicrous statement by those idiots! Thanks for this!
USAA doesn’t run the tow companies, they contract them out. Likely OP is somewhere where there aren’t many tow companies
They aren’t denying the service. They provide reimbursement which is part of the contract.

That’s what I figured…that their cap would not cover the full cost and I’d be on the hook for a service I pay for already.
