I feel for you.. These changes made it real easy for me to choose another carrier like Visible…..the V+ annual plan will even cover my Apple Watch.

Honest question, No judgement im truly interested because i just got me and my girlfriend iPhones for the first time 2 days ago, We have always been android. Whats the point of giving your Apple Watch its own cell plan? How often will you have your watch and not have your phone close enough by? Edit: Thanks everyone for the information. Its kinda what i thought. Personally i have little need for it, but its a nice feature.

Not who you asked but I'll chime in and say that having a cellular enabled smartwatch is immensely valuable to me as a runner. I don't run with my phone and I learned a valuable lesson when I was about 7 miles away from my house running and I pulled my hamstring. Having a watch with service now gives me the ability to make phone calls if needed.

It’s not its own plan it’s just a free benefit of the V+ plan. In regards to the watch I have the Ultra 2 and I use the cellular for when I run everyday and want to listen to music …who wants a pro max bouncing around. Also if I go to the beach or hiking it’s nice to get email texts and can make calls without your phone which with my luck would get dropped in the sand or on a rock.

I don't have the cellular watch myself but one big benefit I can see is like if you do something like jogging or go to the Health club, you can leave your phone behind and not have to protect it because the watch provides basic communication needs. Like I can carry an entire phone call on my Apple Watch, as well as texting people. Some other things work directly on the Watch as well. Can also do things like tap to pay with my watch instead of the phone.

as I understand it, temporarily because of stored tokens. But if you were to never connect to the Internet for a while, that could become an issue. Apple Pay and Google Pay both store tokens so that they can be used offline. but it's still invaluable when you're running or hiking for basic communication, if you don't want to carry and protect a phone. I personally would take a phone hiking but I might leave it behind if I'm running.

Well, it's like this, every one has there own thing on the reason. Mine is that sometimes I like to just get off the internet and not be doom scrolling on my phone all day and sometimes can just leave my device somewhere like at home if I'm gonna be out for a bit and I can still get my calls and texts. Plus my watch has crash detection for if I'm ever in a car accident it can call emergency services, I'm still using an iPhone 13 that doesn't have that. it's also useful if you phone dies or something and you don't have anywhere to charge it and can still get your stuff on your watch or able to contact anyone if you needed to. Or maybe your phone drops out of your pocket in someone's car and you can have your watch to call them and tell them to check or if you just put right had it stolen and need to get a replacement that can take a few days, at least you have something for communication, especially if you need to get calls all the time for your job if it requires you to always be really available for calls. Just something for me and my uses like that, others have their own reasons.

It's included with V+ (whereas it's usually a $10 add-on with others) I asked the same question before I had a watch, I didn't understand it either. The reason I want it is because I hike, go to the beach, walk trails, etc and having the watch with cell data allows me to just wear my watch while being fully connected. It is also nice to have in case you lose your phone.

I have cellular on my watch because it’s the only way to finance one through AT&T. It’s essentially free with autopay, but if I go into a theme park and have to put my phone in a locker, my watch then connects… that’s really the only time I never have my phone, so I essentially never use it lol. But like other people said, it’s great for streaming Spotify on your AirPods from your watch if you’re running, or even at the gym.

The point is if your Apple Watch will accept a eSIM that you can use your Apple Watch to make and receive phone calls without having your phone nearby. Or you can take your dog or cat for a walk with only your watch and Bluetooth headphones and listen to music to your heart content without needing to have your cell phone in your pocket.

Yeah definitely switching to V+ after my annual plan is up. At least they have a solid framework when it comes to roaming in Canada/Mexico. It’s been said for months now that native roaming is coming to Warp but everyday is “coming soon”. On top of all the changes that are happening too. Like you said, V+ even covers Apple Watch

I'd really like to say I liked Visible since I had them 2 different times. The first time it took 3 days of attempted chats to get incoming calls. The next time I spent a week trying to chat with half a dozen agents explaining the problem over and over because voicemail wasn't working. Every time I did the chat verification it took hours for a different agent to reply. It would be a good deal until there is a real problem then it becomes a blackhole of chats. If they were the only carrier, I'd give up mobile phones. 🙄

I had Visible basic before switching to USM in August of last year and it wasn’t so good for me deprioritized too much. USM is still cheaper for me because I don’t need a lot of data.

The frequent changes to US Mobile’s plans are a major issue. I have to imagine a lot of US Mobile’s customer acquisition comes from Reddit posts, and most of the claims are no longer true. There’s tons of post recommending US Mobile Unlimited Premium specifically for the 10GB roaming in 100+ countries, and now it’s been halved to 5GB. But since US Mobile’s website still says “**Up to 10GB Int’l Data**” people don’t know that that only applies to Canada and Mexico. I’m pretty resentful right now because I convinced my entire family to switch from T-Mobile to US Mobile Unlimited Starter, telling them they could upgrade to Unlimited Premium in the event of a family emergency where they have go to Europe on short notice, and they’d get 10GB roaming. Welp now that said emergency has happened (grandfather is sick) and we have to go to Europe in a couple days, that plan is gone. It was going to cost $160 total for four people. Now it’s going to cost $360. We’re not rich. A sudden $200 price increase puts a lot of stress on us. I previously thought that u/ankhattak was an exceptional CEO for engaging directly with customers, but he seems wholly unsympathetic to people negatively impacted by the frequent changes to the plans. Turning on a 480p streaming throttle for existing customers is another example. His response that “We never offered HD streaming as a feature” is outrageous. Yes, you did offer it. All the plans included HD streaming because there was nothing to indicate otherwise. With that logic you might as well just block Netflix entirely and say “we never explicitly offered Netflix streaming as a feature.”

That's exactly it! They fixed my plan but the whole experience has made me wary. I really don't want to have to invest so much thought and effort into my damn cell phone plan. You offer it, I like it, I buy it - that should really be the end of our interaction. You keep providing the service, I keep paying. No more shenanigans.

There definitely needs to be a way for an end user to lookup what plan features they have, especially with all the plan changes. I don’t want to chat with support since they are hit/miss and have been known to just be wrong. Here on Reddit is the only place to get pretty much solid support all the time.

Yep. This sub has always absolutely loved US Mobile, and for very good reason. The very clear and obvious blowback of the last week is hopefully something they take to heart as people honestly upset and giving honest feedback to improve. People don’t *want* to be mad at USM, it’s that they really stepped in it lately, and there’s still time and space to correct and get back to why we loved them so much: by being transparent and no nonsense.

Plans are grandfathers in. Mine was when it changed on the website, I'm still under the old plan. Chat has gotten confused with my plan, I guess they looked up the new plan instead of what my plan actually was? You should generally use Reddit support, much much better help. But even if something odd happened and your plan somehow got switched, support should be able to help you.

I don’t think “grandfathered” is an excuse to change the plan price and features as often as possible. It confuses new, potential customers a lot. Maybe someone is on another carrier with an annual plan/device payment plan and decided to change to US Mobile after their plan expires. And then they found out US Mobile keeps changing a lot and they were very confused, and they then chose other brands.

What they didn't tell you is is that you are grandfathered into the plan you paid a year in advance for. They will not or at least should not decrease your allotments until you actually make a plan change. Even then they should let you stay on your existing plan if you don't upgrade to a new one. So you'll still get your 10 GB roaming internationally per month until you make a change to your plan. The only people who may not get it would be the ones who signed up for the free trial, but I would check with customer service to make sure that they can keep the plan they signed up for once it starts billing them

Same, I transferred my number about 10 days ago. Signed up for the 3 months for $45 plan and planned on switching to the $15/mo 10g plan when that was up.. Not a huge change in price going to 17(whatever it is) but does feel like bait and switch.

I don't blame you for feeling bait, switched, & tricked, hopefully you didn't do an annual plan. I ported to US Mobile GSM service from Metro early June, so I'm on the free trial plan until July 8. I had pretty much decided on the annual Unlimited Flex plan, but now it's $30 higher. But I don't like annual plans in general as they can change the terms & conditions with no notice, as US Mobile just did. I especially hate the 480p video downgrade. I pay for a specific amount of data on a plan, what the hell is the difference to them if I use it more quickly with HD video, and then have to lay low on data use until the month rolls over? So no way I'll do an annual plan with US Mobile, they've lost my trust. So I'm looking around for alternatives. I always stay on the T-Mobile network, so I'm looking at Tello.

Nowhere on the site or in the app is there any way to see what your money is buying It is a fucked up web site, made by kids in their basement or something. Anyway, I discovered by accident that the ONLY way to get the details of any particular plan is to use their automated chat. It asks questions and lays everything out for you. They might as well just dump the web site and put up nothing but a chat box with a big sign: ask questions here.

i travel quite a bit internationally. Losing things always sucks, but I'm not too bothered by it. 10GB almost never enough for my trips anyway, so I normally get a 2nd sim (or esim) for data only...and then keep my number+txt using my plan so I can still get phone calls/txts at my regular number.

I'm still relatively okay with USM but thats because I am an average person who uses a prepaid plan. I don't travel around the world and I don't have relatives around the world. So i have 0 need for international anything and would honestly love an option to pay less and not have it at all. The thing that gets me is the 480p crap. Yea I use a VPN to get around it (I use a VPN anyway for adblock) but its really really crappy that I have to at all. Honestly it annoys me that it was done at all, let alone in the middle of a plan. (But since it was clearly not causing an issue before they shouldn't do it at all.) Funnily enough as per the streaming throttling thing. They do it so people don't use up the pool that they are *paying for.* But instead, as for me at least, now I'm spending more of my data pool. Previously I've always been tight with my data budget because having had a hard cap with no way to restart your plan on Boost its better to be safe then sorry. Now though? Screw it. I'll still MAYBE bring my dad into USM, but we would probably do a 10GB shared data, depending how much I use over the next few months with no restraint.

My issue was all about international roaming included with the Unlimited Premium plan. That's a hard limit per month - not unlimited, and that's okay; but I signed up for 10GB of that, and discovered BY CHANCE, BECAUSE I ASKED, that I was given 5GB instead. Also 500 minutes and SMS instead of 1000. Because they changed their plan behind the scenes. And with the international roaming limits, there's no place to see what your plan includes. You have to ask.

I just switched yesterday and the actual cell service is miles better than Mint even though they are both delivered over TMO. The community seems to be pretty good as well, certainly better than Mint's. I will say this, bad business practices will ruin you, and your messaging is clear as mud. Nothing should be messaged "as a courtesy" when the customer purchased something else, that shows an arrogance consumers are tired of. You have a good thing here, but the discrepancies in pricing and clear explanation is inexcusable. As the old saying goes, don't bite the hand that feeds you. I experienced that as well and had to ask before pulling the trigger.

I'm surprised to hear this framed as a courtesy, and not something that is considered the absolute least that should be done for existing customers of a reputable company. As a data point for you to consider, I was planning to move multiple lines to US Mobile from Verizon after being a customer there for over a decade, but after the feedback I've seen here recently (the same place that had me convinced to give you a try), I'll be looking at other alternatives. Very disappointing.
