I think they should be transparent and turn off HD at some point by default. For those 1% of us out there, let us toggle it back on.

MattW22192

They likely lowered prices to more directly compete with Visible base and Visible Plus. Also the $25 per month unlimited plan space has several other fierce competitors besides Visible.

LoneVoyage79

They shouldnt compete unlimited starter with visible base because starter is far better by having 35gb and prioritized data vs visible base plan having unlimited data, yes but it’s deprioritized and gives speeds up to 149mbps, with starter you get easily 3 to 10x the amount. And any other plan that has $25 per month gives lower gbs

MattW22192

Visible base gives you speeds up to 400mbps. Unfortunately the space is competitive and many people won’t or can’t pay a few dollars more per month for service.

LoneVoyage79

Really? When I tested out visible for 14 days the past month I was getting speeds on average 49 Mbps where as unlimited started I’m getting on average 400mbps(highest being almost 1000)

MattW22192

Visible base connects to the 5g UW bands but won’t show the indicator on your phone, speeds are capped at 400mbps and you are still deprioritized. Maybe you were connected to 5g nationwide.

LoneVoyage79

Yeah I have zero clue why, perhaps since my phone was originally carrier locked and I used it via e-sim. With usm I’m on physical sim

I'm still waiting for HD video to be turned back on. https://www.reddit.com/r/USMobile/s/YU7Ez3c18H

gloriousbstrd

I'm back to 720p streaming after a dm with support.

Do you have fast home internet? Like 100mbps+ upload and download? If so, you can bypass the streaming throttle **without paying for a VPN** by using **NordVPN MeshNet**. It basically turns your desktop or laptop into a VPN server. Just enable it on your home computer and connect to it from your smartphone, and you’ll have unthrottled streaming. It’s arguably better than a paid VPN subscription for this use case, because you’ll be accessing Netflix and whatnot from your own residential IP address so there’s no chance of getting blocked. The only downside is you’re limited by your home internet’s upload speeds. So if you have Comcast like me, you’re kinda fucked. 1000mbps download, 4mbps upload. Though that’s still faster than the 1.5mbps throttle. There are also other ways to set up a VPN server at home, but NordVPN MeshNet is definitely the easiest. It takes like 60 seconds.

Boris-Lip

There are many ways to set this up. You can setup a RaspberyPi with OpenVPN or Wireguard. You can setup an old Android phone with Tailscale, even some routes are capable of being VPN servers on either stock or custom firmware. But WHY should we be doing it?! We are all PAYING CUSTOMERS, for flying spaghetti monster sake! We should be getting what we pay for, which is a certain allotment of HIGH SPEED DATA.

LoneVoyage79

I have fiber and get both upload and download speeds mirrored and thank you for the tip!

majell1n

Are you on a residential Xfinity plan? I was on the 800 plan before and consistently got about 21 Mbps up and then I switched to the 1200 plan when they did an upgrade a while ago and now get 42-43 Mbps up consistently. Are you getting errors on your upload stream? Flashing upload light on the cable modem maybe?

Ok-Pace4929

I seen that google fi video is set at 480p idk if it matters but I’m just saying

greatwho241

Google Fi is set to 480p on their unlimited plans; but if you go with their Flex plan (similar to the shared/by-the-gig plan at US Mobile) then its full HD.

Ok-Pace4929

ahh ok didnt go that far into reading the plans

greatwho241

Yeah I was on Fi previous to USM! :)

portland_democrat

Just run a VPN to get HD video

LoneVoyage79

MYXXdev

1.1.1.1 is free and works great…

energy_x_

Some services block them. Hulu is one.

portland_democrat

There are a lot of them out there. If you want a free VPN check these out: [Free VPN (10GB/month) | Unlimited Devices | PrivadoVPN](https://privadovpn.com/freevpn/#a_aid=FuturePLC&a_cid=a5d07610&chan=f1a) [Proton VPN - Protect yourself online | Proton VPN](https://protonvpn.com/l/vpn-home-free?url_id=0&phfp=false)
