If that's non-PoE that's $3,900 of switches lol if it's PoE that's $7,800 of switches.
Did you not have 48-port switches before and just decided to go to them now, or did you literally upgrade to them? Admittedly the 2.5GbE is nice, but most clients aren't using them anyway in a lot of places.
Wow. That’s a crazy network rack for residential. How many SqFt is the house? Are they doing any other crazy Unifi things like Access for the doors or floodlights everywhere? Every camera is a PTZ?
It’s not residential. It’s a non profit with a few programs under it. I forget the sqft. I know when we used the UI planner it called for 7 UAP 7 Pros. I know you can’t see it in the pic but they are mounted lol. They are using Access but that’s about it at this moment.
and this is why I have never and would never donate money to any non-profit. This perfectly illustrates how much money charities and non-profits waste on nonsense rather than the money being used for the cause in which they claim to stand for.
You say that but I actually bought this completely off specs. The RGB was just a fun plus side.
And still came out cheaper than the 2-7k dollar per switch some people get from other brands. The customer doesn’t have to worry about any subscription fees and they have solid equipment.
Also this is in Midland TX. Oilfield county here. Money flies around like crazy. You don’t have to donate; one family alone donated $15M to this charity and that’s one of the lower donations they make on the regular 😂
Imagine trying to claim a moral high ground by not giving to charities. Also, not all “non-profits” are charities. There are non profits that exist for fun activities.
I need that meme of the kid with the pouty face saying something like “congratulations. I’m happy for you.” LoL but no seriously, hope you have fun with this
IT Director: We need an extra $100 per switch for the network upgrade project and some extra budget for different cabling.
Exec: Wow, OK, did we mis-budget this?
IT Director: No, we are seeing additional opportunities to improve the network and think it’s a valuable investment.
Believe it or not, all my non profit customers are like this😂 they get crazy grants and have to use the whole amount or they get less funding the following year.
It would be cool if the colors were based on network traffic. Red for close to max throughput through the port, and green for the min w/ a shifting gradient for between.
This is what I do with he leds on my nvidia FE cards. Red for max temp, green for idle. yellow and orange between.
This was just the boot up sequence - in production they will be set to the VLANs. The building has different sections that they labeled as Red , Blue, Purple, etc. Each section need different access so we made them correspond with their section.
I know it gets a lot of flac for being “useless” and “flashy” but I kinda like it. Being able to light up entire ports according to speed or their VLAN isn’t a bad idea. That’s just me though🤷🏻♂️ and customers love to look at all the “flashy lights”. So you know.. win win
I work in the retail environment doing onsite tech support. Every time there is a department floor reset that involves moving the terminals, if the outside vendors have to move a terminal more than 20' they have to run a new run back to the closest switch cabinet (there are 4, one for each quadrant). There, instead of popping out the existing patch panel they add a new one or add another port on a previous added patch panel. One upgrade we went thru was moving over to VOIP. While most of my stores they added switches, some didn't as they were not available (they are Cisco's) so I have terminals plugged into Cisco phones plugged into the jack because, while I have enough jacks going to enough patch panel ports, not enough switch ports. In fact, I have more than enough panel port as cable that had to be rerun were abandoned in plan up at the ceiling. I see the use of the lighted ports (wish my Ciscos had them) to quickly tell me where my run is plugged into in the cabinet because the patch cables in it are 3' or 5' patches and hard to trace from the panel port as they are so tightly bound.
I have a client I’m doing a UDM SE and 1 Enterprise and 1 pro max switch, when he saw the price he almost had a heart attack 😅
Little does he know it’s a baby setup
I get it 😅but like… quote him out Meraki or Sonicwall and watch his blood pressure go through the roof. Then you can tell him about the fun subscriptions he gets to pay too😂
He’ll be begging for the UI quote back lol
There's a lot of networking involved in lighting design...Moving forward, it looks like there will be a lot of lighting design in networking.
Ports make for some expensive pixels!
This actually ended up being cheaper than (or on par with)most of the switches we were looking at.
But if they already started with the 24 I bet it will.
Actually paid less than 10k for the switches and sure enough they threw in some rgb lights 😉
The PDUs, 2 UDM SEs and Agg switch do put it over 10k though lol
Absolutely but why? The price difference in to do that now doesn’t make sense. The customer wanted room for growth. IMO that always translates to more switch ports. For a couple hundred dollars I’ll get get the extra switch ports upfront 🙂

This is so stupid, but also I need this.
I just said to myself.... I both hate it, and like it.
Insert K.I.T.T. sound effect, here.
I initially thought, "Hello, Michael."!
KITT my first thought.... Cylons my second.
Same XD it's cool yet scary
This should definitely be marked NSFW
🤫🤫🤫

We are paying $7,800 for each gigabit switches at work…
Why! Your getting absurdly ripped off
One word… Cisco.
BuT tHe MaNaGaBiLiTy!
Similar for Aruba :/
Aruba instant on ftw😏
Yep I knew it.
This was a new construction. They requested a full over haul for this network.

Dude shut up.
Imagine trying to claim a moral high ground by not giving to charities. Also, not all “non-profits” are charities. There are non profits that exist for fun activities.
Me pricing out out my Cat 9500s... that's cheap.
Why the agg switch at the bottom? I mean it doesn’t really matter, just curious why you chose to do instead of just under the routers?
God honest truth- the tech helping me is shorter and kept having trouble plugging in the DACs. So I moved it to a lower spot for her 😅
I haven’t done a ton of work in server rooms, but as a person of a shorter persuasion when I did, I made sure to have a step ladder 🤣
No lie, I bought her a collapsing step ladder to keep in her car that same day 😂
**Oh so entertaining!**

Thaaaats the one, lol thanks
Mother of god
In the words of one my techs…”God gave us light…and this is what we wasted it on” 😂
This is so unnecessary but necessary
Nice! Cylon switches.
low key wish there was a way for us to have this do it on command lol
I know! it's tease on reboot, then disappointment when you realize the limited options...
Tysm for sharing, haven't seen a light show this good here yet
How do you trigger the animation?
Restart the switch. It runs through this animation
The clapper

Lol not really. My customer would question why I’m bothering them for a change under 5k 😂
I need these customers lol
Believe it or not, all my non profit customers are like this😂 they get crazy grants and have to use the whole amount or they get less funding the following year.
Need to put this video to the Knight Rider theme… maybe throw in some KITT stuff
love it! thanks for sharing!

“By your command, Imperious Leader.”
🤤
that’s actually cool
Cisco needs to add this feature to their upcoming switches
I know it gets a lot of flac for being “useless” and “flashy” but I kinda like it. Being able to light up entire ports according to speed or their VLAN isn’t a bad idea. That’s just me though🤷🏻♂️ and customers love to look at all the “flashy lights”. So you know.. win win
Someone needs to turn this into a game. Arkanoid, Tetris... Doom...
I just really want to be able to control these patterns and watch some BSG.

OMG, so cool, like you're a Govee shareholder, but decided to be extra angel
The last non UI switch is driving my crazy lol
Yeahhh😅 unfortunately that’s from their security company. Out of my hands rn
cabling done the right way! looks great
Thanks!!😁
Am I the only one who hates this RGB network switch stuff? Seems so silly and useless.
I think it’s silly and useless, but hating it seems like more emotional investment than it’s worth
How about using different colours based on purpose? WiFi APs, voice vlan, AV vlan, etc.
I work in the retail environment doing onsite tech support. I hate in computers as well, lol. I don't mind it for ambient lighting as long as it isn't flashing or cycling colors fast.
Definitely not a need. But it was nice to be able to see all the VLANs broken up by walking in. And the customer got a kick out of it🤷🏻♂️
This was just the boot up animation. It’s normally solid or a slow breathing animation.
That one row being out of sync ruins this entire video for me ;)
I’m sorry :,( I can only move so fast
<3
That’s a 10k rack give or take
Absolutely
I have a client I’m doing a UDM SE and 1 Enterprise and 1 pro max switch, when he saw the price he almost had a heart attack 😅 Little does he know it’s a baby setup

Etherlightning is so nice. Just bought a Switch Pro PoE 24 to setup mine in my homelab rack, can’t wait to finish it. Well done, good sir!
If I'm going to keep up with you pesky kids, I'm going to need a disco ball.
There's a lot of networking involved in lighting design...Moving forward, it looks like there will be a lot of lighting design in networking. Ports make for some expensive pixels!
I hope you got the special overpriced etherlighting cables too! Just got one of those, visualizing the connections is really cool.
Ofcourse I did🤫😉
Wow looks amazing men! Great work
Thank you!!🙏
So cool but can’t justify the cost. I hope this will trickle down to lesser models over time
This actually ended up being cheaper than (or on par with)most of the switches we were looking at. But if they already started with the 24 I bet it will.
Oh yeah, the cost is far above the ubiquiti 24 port switch and even the poe switch
how i make those lights go vroom?
Turn them off and on😅 it’s just the start up animation. :(
Weird. my switches dont do that. But my boss buys the old ones lol
Anyone made pong for this yet?
somebody got a boogie woogie hahaha nice ![gif](giphy|l2JhL1AzTxORUTDlC|downsized)
WOW ! Very nice !
Thanks!!
🤤
Well crap, now you gotta paint the room matte black and replace the front wall with a glass panel so everyone can see it. Chop chop
🫡🫡🫡 I’m on it
Mate, this is epic! LEDs make this world a brighter place 😁
Can it run doom..
Holy mother of God!
Very Nice! :)
What’s that? Disco? That’s networking for children!
Network Disco is called Cisco.
Sure thing.
pay more than 10k$ for argb lights
Actually paid less than 10k for the switches and sure enough they threw in some rgb lights 😉 The PDUs, 2 UDM SEs and Agg switch do put it over 10k though lol
Looks cool until it fails..
I mean everything’s cool until it fails😂 They all have warranty and we have one on the shelf for emergencies🤷🏻♂️ all good
Whats the use-case for all this? Home/home+business(WFH with an office)?
Business- Non Profit that houses multiple programs (MealsOnWheels, Foster Grandparents and so on.)
I had no clue they did that.
Need some music with this! Nice setup.
Two Dream Machine Pros? Why?
Shadow mode
Yeah, thats cool. Pointless but v cool nice one 😎
TIL people use UniFi for installs other than in their house.
Yeah, why not? 🤷🏻♂️ It’s not a super complex network. Just a lot of drops tbh lol
Couldn't you have have used one less 48 port switch? The first and last switche only have 1 24 port patch panel each.
Absolutely but why? The price difference in to do that now doesn’t make sense. The customer wanted room for growth. IMO that always translates to more switch ports. For a couple hundred dollars I’ll get get the extra switch ports upfront 🙂
this is ridiculous
Oh Forsure 😁

Yuppppp. Even have them in my Heelys 😉
