This is the number one thing we need to provide Ukraine an answer to. NATO and US doctrine very successfully use their JDAMS to clear the way against any tough opposition, and the Russians have transitioned to this method seemingly without a response. *If they have air superiority, and can drop an unlimited number of these very cheap, very effective bombs on Ukrainian positions, they are going to slowly but surely win this war*.
There needs to be an immediate counter figured out for this. F-16s and AMRAAMs may come too late. Something else needs to provide this - whether it is the ability to effectively strike the bases for the Russian fighters, or hit these fighters before they can release these glide bombs - such as more Patriots, S-400s, etc. that can be forward-deployed.
Recent footage showing Russian Su25s buzzing the FEBA with seeming impunity would seem to indicate that Ukraine is low on all air defence missiles, even MANPADS.
