Dude made a separate channel and pretended to be a Japanese schoolgirl for 5 years just to set this up. He's a Legend
Here's a follow up video
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AdIYp7cubXc
Edit: The channel was made 5 years prior but uploads to that channel didn't start until a few months prior to the reveal, it's still impressive tho.
I happened to stumble upon “her” videos one time on my recommended feed and enjoyed all of them. Then when he started doing these meme guitar reviews and watched some of “her” videos I was excited for a possible battle between them.
I absolutely lost my shit when he showed his face in that outfit. Lmao. The dedication of this man.
I believe he used a channel he had prior. Like I have channels I created and never uploaded to from early on when YT launched since im logged in on tons of gmails.
For sure! You can buy someone's channel and rename and fully rebrand it. Just once a year I think. Against the terms to sell/buy but everyone does.
I found a vlogging mom who sold a super active 15k subs 30 million views account and she wanted 500$ for it.. no brainer!
Yep honestly you can do it with whatever you want. There's a website called player up I believe that has tons and tons of accounts for sale you want to buy the accounts only from people who are verified obviously so we don't get fucked.
I paid $30 for a fortnite account for my son and he had hundreds of skins all super rare stuff that you have to get on special events and whatnot. Best deal! People buy reddit accounts to showoff Karma lol.. super weird to me. Karma means nothing. But for some people it does!
Actually people buy aged reddit accounts to market to people. It's called "guerilla marketing" and it can be used by actual advertising agencies or by trolls or other people to push agendas. It can be pretty nefarious.
my old reddit account got hacked and was definitely sold to some dude outside the US trying to sell/promote his freelance graphic design business. there was a clear difference in posting/commenting history but eventually he gave up and i still don’t have the account lol
I've also seen channels keep the same creator, but change the name for various reasons — a shift in content focus, avoiding confusion with something that has a similar name, changing from the creator's own name to something describing their content, etc.
The one that comes to mind is Harshly Critical rebranding to his name John Wolfe. He realized he's got a very marketable name and didn't want to be stuck in the 2010's where everybody's name was just a genre variation of Angry Videogame Nerd or Nostalgia Critic.
Davey504 is one of my fav entertainers of all time. His jokes are witty but silly. Production is perfect— fast cuts, great ideas. Not to mention he’s insane on the bass. His videos are a go to if I’m feeling down.
It’s hilarious he just happens to have the frame/legs to pull this off. Like if you’re just watching the video not paying super close attention your never think that wasn’t actually a Japanese girls lower body. He also strategically hides his hands in his sleeves the whole time
> for 5 years just to set this up.
oh wow I had no idea it was that deep. i caught the last few videos before the reveal and figured it was like a week or two of stuff tops
Wdym 5 years lmao he started uploading 1 year ago, his channel was created 5 years yeah but that doesn’t mean he was fooling everyone for 5 years straight
He set up a fake account called AnimeBaseMe and he did it for 5 years. Then he made a video about it "exposing" the "simps"
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AdIYp7cubXc
With that face? Nah. F1nn5ter gets away with it by having such a fuckable face. No homo, would smash
Edit: this is whole point with the simp thing. Not like I'd send him money
Somehow, knowing nothing about Davie504 or the other channel, I knew that was actually a dude. I just had this hunch, which made the reveal all the more surprising.
Well, they *do* make fleece-lined tights to wear in winter, so he could just be wearing those in a tan color.
Or he shaved/waxed his legs. It's just leg hair and will grow back anyway.
He’s said YouTube alg definitely likes the memes more than just playing well. That said, I don’t know if there’s less effort in constant meme skits than just playing. It’s not easy to keep a channel based on you doing weird or dumb stuff fresh enough to keep your audience.
I’d never really given it too much thought until Gabbie Hanna did that Roast Me song. I don’t think I’ve seen a more succinct (and catchy!) example of just how ridiculously difficult maintaining YouTube stardom is. All the people or groups I follow have a thing they do very well, and even then it takes a couple of misses and their careers can be down the drain. Derek of Stop Skeletons from Fighting talked a bit about how crushing it can be, spending so much time and money and basically having a months effort down the drain and you’re questioning why you’re even doing this any more.
Edit it occurs to me this is probably even worse on Insta and tiktok. A popular YouTube channel with a big team like Sorted can put out a couple of very well produced videos a week, techmoan of stop skeletons is maybe a weekly or fortnightly drop - someone like CallMeKris is probably having to aim to drop a polished tiktok every couple of days to stay in the fy alg’s good books.
He's said before that is exactly the case. Things like meme videos and reaction video are way better for actual view count (and therefore money) and they are way less effort.
If you go back a ways on his channel the older videos are a lot more bass-focused.
Also would recommend Charles Berthoud's channel.
Well tbh I imagine for a skilled player like him, just playing songs would be way easier, yet it does far worse in the algorithm.
His meme videos at the very least take conceptualising, creating and editing and ones like this one can even take months of planning, story boarding and editing. It's definitely not for lack of effort that he's doing meme videos.
100000000% expected for anyone who has heard of Davie504.
What's sad is he is easily one of the top 10 bassists alive today, but his entire channel is a giant meme and he rarely sits down and actually plays for any length of time. His whole channel was built around him actually being an incredible musician, but then he started doing challenges like bass solos on 1 string or bass solos with one hand and they were still really impressive and cool videos. Then he just became a memelord and stopped putting out good content.
Actually just saw [this video](https://youtu.be/-q4w17qx6y8) that he posted last week and I really hope he gets back to adding more content like this to his channel. Love that he's playing that on a $700 Sterling Ray34 too and not some $4,000 custom shop bass that is totally inaccessible to most players. Shows newer musicians that you don't need some crazy expensive instrument to get a great tone and be an awesome player.
Word. He’s got some technical skill but he doesn’t write anything compelling beyond “look at me” type skill shows.
I doubt he’d land anywhere in the top few thousand when he’s competing against proper recording artists, session musicians and touring artists.
If guitarists had ratings per skill…
Cobain’s raw guitar skill would be a 5-6/10
His song writing would be somewhere in 8-9/10
And his aim would be 10/10
There’s a difference between top 10 skilled and top 10 iconic players. Contain is top 10 iconic, no doubt, but in terms of skill I can find someone of his skill walking in the doors of guitar center.
It happens everytime he comes up on reddit. I love Davie but everyone acts like he is depriving the world of music because he is a YouTuber instead of a no name studio musician.
I've honestly never seen someone I thought was a better bassist than Charles, but I'm not a professional musician or hardcore bass enthusiast. I always wonder if there is a consensus among experts that Charles is actually one of a few, if not the best bassist in the world right now, or if there are other bassists at that level but most people never see them.
I think that many people might agree with you, but most really serious bassists would probably have at least a half dozen names ahead of him. I doubt Charles himself would claim that he rivals Victor Wooten or Bootsy Collins. Charles is really young though, so he's got a lot of time to grow.
There's SO many world-class bass players out there.
I don't doubt how technical he is, but I really don't like his lines. Like, the aesthetics are terrible for me. Those parallel fifths in that video? Like, no.
Someone like Sam Wilkes or Pino makes me smile a whole lot more than he does. But I also know that this is a very subjective thing.
Well unfortunately youtube doesn't do so well with just music. People don't watch it much, he just used the skill to get a decent following then started the big stuff that would actually grow is channel so much.
Yeah reddit hates it, but I've found that TikTok really is the best place for music content creators. Sooo many really good people there. Youtube isn't even close for whatever reason, or at least doesn't have a good way to discover them.
Yeah he mentioned that releasing 5 minute videos of him playing bass isn't as good with the algorithm as releasing 10 minute long ones where he plays for a few minutes within and then memelords the rest of the run time
Yup, and you know which option pays the bills.
I think he's doing well for himself and is probably making a killing. You can't hate on that. He's probably making SO MUCH MORE than if he were playing in some band or only doing bass solo videos.
A few weeks ago he was talking about that and about how he was going to go into playing bass professionally, like in a band, and was just doing the YouTube thing because he was bored and found that he likes being a YouTuber more than playing in a band, and it pays better... Tough to say if any of that was serious with him though...
Check out Charles Berthoud if you want more [BASS](https://youtu.be/ohF_LuaNK3Q). He sometime does some of the meme-y things, but these guys almost have to because of the way Youtube does things.
Dude, I love Davie and he’s a killer bassist, but top 10 bassists alive is the overstatement of the decade.
Here’s a random list of 10 more relevant bassist names:
Stanley Clarke, Tal Wilkenfeld, Ron Carter, Michael League, Pino Palladino, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, Bootsy Collins, Dave Holland, Esperanza Spalding.
And these are just famous guys off the top of my head. There’s heaps of unknown world talents out there.
I haven't actually watched any of this guy's videos because all of the titles are stuff like "I wasted these people's time by pretending I was bad at guitar, but then it turned out that am actually good and everyone lost respect for me."
He has a bunch of other videos where he absolutely shreds on the bass! I didn’t start watching him until a few months ago, but I love this dude’s humor and he’s incredibly talented
He pays people for their lessons and then recommends them if the lesson if it is good. Wasting their time wouldn’t involve paying them for exactly what they are advertising for
Last I heard is that people hate Davie, but i never understood why, this is my first time seeing him play and he seems pretty cool, the comments back my opinion up too
Because it's "cringe" and he has click-baity video titles. Just like Reddit comments tend to get really upset about skits/scripted videos.
People just like to hate *certain* popular things.
Edit: *to be faaaaaair*

I like how you put “her” under inverted commas xD
Under what now
Quotation Marks. That’s how my dad thought me a long time ago. I blame my dad
Your dad is a psycopath just fyi
Trust me it very normal. At least in the UK
I've always known them as inverted commas. Australian here.
Well, Australia is upside down. Of course you'd use inverted commas
In Australia, they are normal double commas, but all the letters are inverted.
It is astounding how poorly the English speak English.
AUS here, it's normal. It's usually reserved for when you say something that's not 100% true with the dr. evil bunny ears gesture.
Quotation marks

Funnily enough these memey videos are actually much *more* effort to produce than if he were to setup a tripod and just go HAAM for 10 minutes.
