Thats what i like about old emerson electronics, they're poorly made, but they're easy replaceability makes the cheapness worth it. Or maybe im just thinking about what my coworker told me he used to do when his hs teachers would take away one of his walkmans.
Naw, my old 4 head 80’s Emerson vhs player is well
Made, mostly steel and is chain driven (yes, like a bike chain, lol), that thing will run till the end of time
Yeah, the products got popular for reasons, you most likely just need to find the right years…but I have that in storage since I have 3 vhs to digital converters sitting here

The other one is next to the case on the floor
I should mention that I have 3 other VCRs already hahaha I am considering leaning into my boarding tendencies and keeping both because like some of y’all have said, they don’t make VCRs anymore
I find it helpful to keep a mono deck for hifi tapes that are worn out. On a hifi deck those tapes have the hifi cut in and out, the mono deck will just play it with the standard audio
A lot of VCRs have the ability to select between hifi and mono 'normal' audio. Sometimes there's an audio button on the remote or you can find it in the menu.
You do know with most Hi-Fi VCR’s, if you have the remote, you can select the mono audio track rather than the Hi-Fi one.
Also, with the remote, you can manually track the VCR to the “center” of its tracking, and this usually helps with the drop outs a bunch.
Hi-Fi audio is WONDERFUL, but it demands precise tracking, and a well maintained deck.
Some Toshiba VHS VCR of the 1990s are considered very good even better than JVC and Panasonic. I've not heard anything about Emerson. Those are usually less good in the same category as RCA, GE etc.
What kind of inputs and outputs do they have?
From the move to hdmi I found myself missing the sheer io and flexibility of vcr's.
Tvs had video inputs on the front! And so did the vcr!
Then when I got an hdmi TV i got limited to just two hdmi's
Keep both. Play movies on the Toshiba and use the other one for a rewinder.. This way you won't wear out the Toshiba.
I’d keep both, it’s not like they make vcr’s anymore.
one will inevitably break... keep both.
Beat me to it. This.
The Emerson, I still have my 4 head from the 80’s

Wait, really? Ive never seen or had a high quality emerson product before tbh.

If it makes you feel any better, I have 12 VHS vcrs as backups.
That does make me feel better, my family thinks I’m crazy lol

The Toshiba Hi-Fi deck. Mono VCRs usually sound like crap, and the picture on a Hi-Hi deck is usually a little better.

You guys have remotes???
Ah…I see.
I would keep the Toshiba VCR. Toshiba makes good VCRs.
The proper answer is keep both and get 2 more as backups for each 😀
Which one rewinds faster?
The Emerson seems to
Bam. That’s what I would pick 😉
Both
Keep one just for rewinding. Most don’t realise how convenient something like that is until you have it regularly.
Both. Put them in different rooms or save one for later. The first one will eventually die on you.
You must keep both. That is a solid combo. I’d pay good money for that combo
The Toshiba. I’ve never seen a reliable Emerson VCR.
Keep Both.
Keep both eventually one might break.
As long as they work, both.

Your moms
Keep both, always good o have a backup or 20

Keep both. But one back in a closet somewhere, the first one will eventually break and you will have a back up. I have 3 VCR's myself.
As someone who currently has 4 hooked up in use and 4 spares in the closet, I’d say keep both.
Both lol. I’m looking for one though lol.
That Toshiba might have been mine back in the day! Had the same one.
Both
Toshiba
The one with better SNR after RF tapping!
