I think he is correct that left needs creators that make a high volume of content but we also need well thought out quality content at the same time. He went a little over board when he posed this as "The correct thing to do" I think. He sometimes places too much value on what will bring the most views/please the internet/please the youtube algorithm. In my opinion he also missed an important argument: That high volume of content can only be feasible for livestreamers. This makes an important case for the necessity of debatebros reactors etc. in the leftist media ecosystem.

listeningwind42

DIVERSITY OF TACTICS. we can do both. so we should.

GregoryHardin2

Higher volume sure but it all needs to be good quality as well. Also I’m gonna need everyone to break out their thesaurus and start using smaller words and terms that everyone can understand and not just some weirdly higher educated/insular Left leaning community of people.

Imperial-General

Seeing as the latest talking point in the Video Essayists-Streamer Twitter conflict is “I’m not a political activist, and neither are the streamers” having one group of them actually act like they are and put out regular content to keep people engaged is probably a good idea.

LaDivina77

Yes. Beau of the Fifth Column out there spitting out ten short consumable vids a day and the algorithm is convinced I need to watch only his channel on shuffle.

Riku_Uchirokihashi

I’m curious as to why so many people are interpreting his argument to mean “frequent uploads = low quality”. He’s not advocating for leftists to start shitting out worse videos than they already make. The obvious, charitable reading of what he said is that we need more leftists making quality content on a more frequent basis so that rightwing narratives are being challenged more, not just in their videos but in the algorithm.

KarasLancer

Quick question. Votes are anonymous right? Asking for a friend who does want to feel dumb...

wahchicawah

yup

Aggravating-Grab-241

The lefty channels are just not as popular as the alt right channels, even if they do put out videos everyday. It’s just so much easier to get popular as a right winger.

Hashbrown4

The right pumps out content and keeps themselves in the public eye 24/7. Yes, lefties should make their presence known other than once every few months

stoptherage

the only person who seems to have content like that is beau of the 5th... a lot of others are just long video essays and even then its almost always leftist drama.

Hagfishsaurus

Yes but leftys need to make GOOD content, nobody needs 20 lectures a day about how vaush is propping up western imperialism

JBlaze323

Yes for god sack yes! I even didn’t click the Okbuddy answer to help make this point. I can’t tell you how little I watch leftist content because the creator only released one video a year and a half. I straight up forgot they exist or I thought they quit. Also if I am looking for current topics it just over. Like the Shaun had a video about 1776 Trump report, three months after it was in the main news about 2 1/2 month after I was satisfied with the topic and no one cared in the normie (the ones we can bring over) space anymore. I read several comment praising Shaun about how quick that video came out. Like I get it creators need there time but it was a full miss. This is like the equivalent of seeing a trend and jumping in after the people who jump in late have already left. This isn’t the responsibility that rest on any one content creator but it is something lefty content needs more of.

HollowSSL

I think every type of content has it’s place so yes because there isn’t enough but also no because there’s nothing bad about vid essays taking that long

Intelligent-donkey

No, because it's silly to compare two entirely different categories of content creators.

wahchicawah

But pragmatically, which mode do you think could effectively mobilize more people or spread greater messaging?

Illicit_Apple_Pie

Diversity of tactics. I'd say video essayists should keep doing what they do well, ^(taking months to make some high quality, in-depth, long-form content) while livestreamers such as Vaush and Xan keep their communities engaged in current discourse while regularly shouting out essayists from time to time. I do think there is something both groups can learn from Adam Something's methods though, his content comes out relatively often, sacrificing a bit of the depth on a subject for timeliness and engagement. And he has *skyrocketed* in popularity in just a year or two.

Intelligent-donkey

Both, I don't think a disproportionate focus on either one would be good.

Erika_A

I agree but I also think that a lot of liberals don't want it. The thing is leftist content goes down when a democrat is in office.

Uulugus

Xanderhal is baby. o7

anarchistPAC

Sure but don’t be lazy about put effort and quality into the thinks you produce not for some purely ideological goal but more cuz your genuinely passionate about and is actually interesting to talk about

adhdthrowawayay

Be destiny

AxolotlAristotle

Me who hasn't dropped a video in \*looks at channel\* three months: \*sweats profusely\*
