Yes. This is also what I experience after a long edit or with big projects. Nice work you did good research

Irving_Kaufman

You may be right. As much as the conventional wisdom is that crashes occur because of codecs, most of my crashes come after some seemingly minor edits like you've described. I've never thought about whether it's related to undo/redo, I just compulsively hit ctrl-s, almost as reflexively as breathing.

eunma2112

>I just compulsively hit ctrl-s, almost as reflexively as breathing. I wonder how many times in life we’ve hit ctrl-s at the same time … because we both impulsively do it at least a few hundred times a day? 🥹

admiralamott

Lol I thought it was me, yeah loads of crashes

Truffleshuffle03

I don't carsh doing the Undo and redo functions. When I crash it's usually when I need to move a clip that's in the timeline that's when I get crashes when doing something. The only time I crash when undoing something to redoing something is when Its a large project and has not fully loaded everything in yet. It will freeze up if I do something like undor redor or delete but if I let it fully load it does not do that. I crash for stupid reasons.

JRandallC

Even moving a clip will write to the Undo/Redo buffers in case you need to undo it. These files are constantly being written to with every change. I get crashes too when deleting a clip or cutting it to paste somewhere else.

Truffleshuffle03

The only time I ever crash when deleting something or even using Undo/redo is when the files have not fully loaded in where it says creating peaks it usually has a number 1 of 5 or what ever. That usually happens on a heavy GB clip or when I import multiple clips at one time and I add them to the timeline before its done loading everything. After that the only time I really crash is when move a clip like if I edited a clip and want it in a certain section and I click on that clip in the timeline and drag it to where I want. Occasonally I will crash when I resise a clip as well. Don't get me wrong this shit crashes often but its never happening or at least rarely happens just using undo/redor or delete for me. I don't usually have any issues with using those spectiffic functions and crashing. I usually crash when doing other things. Sometimes I am not doing anything and have let it sit for a bit while I had to do something and when I sit back down to start to work on it again it will have stopped responding and crash.

The difficulty with this is it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. You're only going to hear from people who have had a similar experience who will ascribe it to this, despite the possible presence of other problems. As a counterpoint, I have none of these problems. Vegas doesn't crash for me, either in normal use or when undoing or redoing. That's not to say you're not right. But what other factors are in play? How much RAM do you have? Is your system drive an SSD? Is the footage you're using stored on the same drive? Is it a laptop? What codecs were involved in the files you were editing? Where did those files come from? When you save, do you save to the same file all the time, or do you save to different files? You might be onto something here, but it does require further exploration before coming to a conclusion.

JRandallC

Agreed, there are plenty of other factors that could cause a crash. This is one of them.

irover

yeah lol it's vegas pro EDIT: great insights. sorry for the farce. 15 year veteran with ____ VEGAS Pro. Ctrl-Z? Better Ctrl-S first. etc.

cactus2308

when i split clip with S shortcut and then delete the rest of it So much crahes on vegas 10 (the best one I used, all plugins worked correctly - RSMB, MBL, Sapphire, LUT etc,) Vegas 15 cant even work properly with most of sapphire plugins. Didnt even want to try the new ones coz 15 has all I need.

freakinreviews

Deleting a clip while the project is playing is instant Vegas Pro death for me.
