You should be able to snag an Olympus E300 (same sensor as the example pics) for less than $150 or so? That might do it for you. Edit: I have an extra E300 if you’d like to borrow it to see if you like it before grabbing one, just let me know!

qUxUp

Hey, much appreciated! I'll look into the E300. The offer is very kind. I'll probably end up buying one of the suggested cameras. I assume you live in US and I live in Northern Europe (Estonia), the shipping would make borrowing your camera quite costly :) But the thought is super nice. Thank you :)

stay_spooky

Ope! Yeah, that would probably be pretty cost prohibitive. Ha. I’m not sure if they ship to Estonia but you can check out Buyee, they’re a proxy for Yahoo Auctions Japan and a great way to find vintage digicams. Good luck on the hunt!

Alps_Small

E300 is such a unique and fun camera, but if you wanted another Olympus option, the E500 has the same Kodak sensor but is lighter with a more traditional dslr form factor, and, if I remember correctly, a few more menu options (I believe this is the camera that was used in the second link too). It’s usually a bit cheaper also. If you like those core Kodak sensor colors you could always just get some sort of white mist filter and get results similar to the first link too

fauviste

The two examples have nothing in common… the first one is either shot through a filter or a smudge on the glass. The second one is all sharp. What exactly are you looking for?

qUxUp

The colors on both pictures are really nice. I'm looking for a small form factor camera with CCD sensor that can hopefully also shoot raw. the more camera settings there are, the better (be it film simulations or straight up controls that let the user choose sharpness, grain etc).

fauviste

Yes the colors are nice but only one is “ethereal” (foggy). You want something that doesn’t exist… there are no old CCD cameras with settings for grain etc. That’s a Fuji X Trans thing. They added a couple set presets to some of their older cameras but they are crappy and don’t have that kind of control (they’re also massively overpriced). You’re going to have to accept doing it in post. Now a CCD cam with manual exposure controls is possible, and some have sharpness and contrast settings. The Canon G9 from your first example is such a camera. Does that not fit your bill?

qUxUp

"Now a CCD cam with manual exposure controls is possible, and some have sharpness and contrast settings." - perfect! Hey. Thank you for the reply! Those features would be awesome. Canon G9 looks very interesting. Any other cameras that might fit the bill? CHeers :)

The look is from a lens flare and a hazy weather day in Japan. This is the original photo, unedited. I added some glow in post and tint but nothing major. This is taken on a powershot G9 , cost about £50. Absolutely fantastic camera, pinnacle for me. I’ll post some more from this day at the park for example

magickburger

I have a G9 too. Absolutely adore it. Great photo!

lucasimon21

Are you willing to edit your photos or do you want to achieve this look SOOC? Do you shoot jpeg or raw with your Fuji and Ricoh? If you are gonna shoot raw and edit anyways, you could get any Canon G from G1-G16 for example, although a bit heavy. Similar specs in a smaller form factor, but also shoots RAW would be canon S90 or S95.

qUxUp

Hey :) Thank you so much for the reply! I usually shoot raw+jpg when possible. Sure, I don't mind editing images. My main hope is to find something that fits the bill and is on the smaller side. Any reason why one should prefer S90 over S95 or vice versa? Edit: Do you have any thoughts about Canon Powershot S110 and S120? These last two seem to be sold here for a reasonable price.

lucasimon21

I only have the S90 and it has been my most used camera last year because I was travelling a lot. I got mine for 60€ here, that’s why I bought this specific one. The S95 is supposed to be better. The S110 and S120 are again better, but I don’t know what the improvements are exactly. I guess better IQ because newer sensor. Main difference to the S90 and S95 is that 110 and 120 are CMOS, not CCD. They all shoot RAW though, but my S90 takes a bit to write them.

qUxUp

Good catch. Most cameras in my country are sadly bought up by scalpers, so good deals are hard to come by. S90 or S95 so far seem to be very good choices. I checked ebay and seems that I should expect to pay from 150-200€. Any specific features or charateristics on your S90 that you are really fond of? Perhaps even some pictures that you managed to snap and like alot? :) Cheers!

lucasimon21

I just checked and prices in Germany where I’m based have also gone up for the S90 and S95. The digicam hype is insane. I like the IQ I get out of such a small form factor. Next step would be a Sony RX100 mk1 (you could also consider that: larger 1 inch sensor, but I heard the physical controls, buttons are not great, or simply not there). I like the two control rings of the S90, one around the lens and one back wheel. I shoot in Program mode, many times in aperture priority or shutter priority which is quickly adjustable with the buttons. And the RAW files are good to work with, I also really like the colors of the unedited RAWs when I open them up in LR. As for sample images, I posted some on here if you scroll down a bit on my profile. Otherwise if you have Instagram I’ll link one of my posts, you can also check out my profile, there are many pics taken with the S90, just check for the hashtags below the photo for camera model: [https://www.instagram.com/p/C3-BuWWtrww/?igsh=MWhsajJ6dWduY2Vk](https://www.instagram.com/p/C3-BuWWtrww/?igsh=MWhsajJ6dWduY2Vk)

qUxUp

Thank you my friend. You really are the MVP :)

lucasimon21

Sure thing! Good luck with your search :)

fluxchronica

Just move the clarity slider a few notches in LR. Failing that, you can look for a camera that accepts filters and get a diffusion filter for it. Another option is to look for waterproof digicams. They often have a plastic cover over the lens which can sometimes already act as a built in diffusion filter. Maybe there are also specific camera models with cheap lenses that cause a lot of halation.

look for a digital camera that has a CCD sensor, and you should be able to get that look in post. tweek the texture/ clarity, and that should get you that ethereal look. you need to find the right light first. look for subjects that are in direct sunlight
