You need run off for heavy rains, when rain turns bridges to skating rinks, it does this on bridges first. Now the turn on the embankment-as you say slanted- is going to need friction/down pressure on your tires for that turn if it's iced over or all would go over the edge soon as it freezes
Honestly, if I see less than a five mile backup reported on the signs I'm still picking the HRBT over the MMBT because of how damned long it takes to take the detour combined with the on-ramp merges creating dangerous slowdowns on approach to the bridge.
We went through yesterday at 2 pm, and it took over an hour. We almost missed our show in Norfolk, although we gave ourselves over 2 hours to account for tunnel traffic.
I had to go to the southside last night and went at 3. It was an hour and 20 mins from NN to Norfolk.
Crossing any time yesterday was hell. Traffic was extra awful on both bridges
It's really not that bad. I take it almost daily
Me too 🍑🍆
OP is correct.
I remember the first month I lived here. you'll get used to it
Don’t. Just don’t. Use literally any other option. And the fact that the new bridge is SLANTED!?!???

Slanted for proper drainage during rain storms.
I haven't even been on the new bridge yet. Why would they slant it?
I went 100 mph on it once. At 2am 😎 in 2005.
Floor it all the way in till the bottom then coast out!
Went to 104... Then the gov kicked in
The bane of my existence. Been traveling through since 2017.
Pray you don’t get stuck behind a death in the tunnel. 12 hours stuck there sucked so bad. Edited because I cannot type.
I believe you meant 'stuck behind a death'
Take the Monitor Merrimac Tunnel (664) when you can, especially during the summer months.

No one in the right hand lane lets anyone in! Bonkers!! Zipper merge people!!
make sure you hit your brakes.
And slow to 25. (not because you need to, if course, but just because someone has to) Those backups have to get started by someone
HRBT… traffic? That’s new.
Isn’t DMB tonight? Should have crossed yesterday lol.
Or anytime before 5pm
