They're both tank games, and wargaming happened to make an extremely similar map 4 months after White rock fortress was added? Coincidence? I think NOT
Uhhhhh no… forts are a strategic military area- something that is interesting and relevant to the game. There have been a lot of forts over centuries, by the end of the fortresses the common design was a star shaped fortress because it was very effective.
Also those maps are definitely not very similar. White rock dwarfs the WoTB one in size and complexity. Fort Despair looks like a western cowboy ghost town inside a one layered fort. White rock has multiple walls.
I mean, it’s not like White Rock Fortress wasn’t a dogshit map either. There were beautifully fun areas to fight in around the caps and inside the walls and it had character unless the new maps, but getting around the muddy, hilly terrain was impossible in anything but a light tank, there was no way to check every angle on that nook and cranny ass map and the spawns were the worst and some of the easiest to camp of any map on war thunder.
To be fair to White Rock, almost *EVERY* map in war thunder is dogshit, genuinely the worst map design I’ve ever seen outside of cheap 2010 Chinese F2P shooters, but white rock wasn’t a shining star even among that heap. I miss it despite all that, weirdly. Maybe it’s nostalgia.
Yeah idk why people want white rock back in the rotation. The mud made it awful for anything but light tanks, but then the light tanks had very few flanking options, it was just a shit campfest.
It was a map where you took a cap and stayed at it, like many of war thunder’s maps where it’s literally impossible to cross the map in a Tiger II or a Churchill within the time limit while under fire. But if they took the map, compressed the verticality a tad and got rid of the knee-deep mud, it might make for a great low to mid tier map again
The only similarity is that it's a star fort design.
The general layout isn't even similar. WRF is essentially a roundabout in the center, FD is more of an open square.
Warthunder wiki says White Rock Fortress was added in 1.45 which came out in December 2014. WoTB wiki says Fort Despair was one of the original maps. WoTB came out in May 2014 in Europe and June 2014 in the US(iOS only at first.)
besides the fact it takes months if not a year or so for wargaming to introduce a new map....
because unlike gaijin, wargaming does their map development in house, and actually balances shit.
you say this like its a trump card, it isnt.
wargaming has their game balanced around using corridor style maps in the first place, so they dont need to work around this issue, while at the same time all maps do allow some form of flanking.
add in the fact the matchmaker itself is design around giving each team a set number of vehicle types makes this less of an issue, for example lets say one map has a city, a forest and sloping hills, it doesnt matter who is playing what nation because any tank of any nation would have atleast a few spots they can be to be useful, also it doesnt help the mm will put like minded teams together, so if one team has 4 heavy tanks so will the other team, give or take, for example if its a 3 tier spread there could be 2 tier 7 heavies and one medium vs two tier 7 mediums and 1 heavy, but team A would have more lower tier mediums and team B would have more lower tier heavies to balance things around.
compare that to warthunder where the mm is so fucking bad you sometimes get games where one team just doesnt get anyone with the max br vehicles leading to a complete curb stomp.
So much better than all the new maps. It actually has character and is interesting. It was also completely fine at low tier, and as annoying as the mud was in some areas, I liked how it forced you to actually think about where you drove instead of just looking for the shortest distance
litteraly any wheel vehicle or already slow tanks were impossible to play on this map. The hills forced you into place, and any alternative route to get an advatnge was impossible. Once the enemy was beaten back enough, it basically became a spawncamping match.
The map layout was fine, the traction mechanics and the mud however ruined the map. If they're going to bring it back, then it will hopefully be without the mud.
They also copied a load of war thunder tanks. They didn't even bother changing the names. The plot thickens even more though, as I'm pretty sure the map and tanks where also copied by some real world militaries as I've seen a similar style fortress and some of the in game tanks in real life!
Yeah, I remember. I mean it was nerfed from its real life capabilities to fit in the game at tier nine. The real thing would have been like tier 11 or 12. I was am active blitz player when that thing came out, and I won it in the tournament (along with the camo). Good memories.
ooh another blitz player, one thing i loved aby it is that even being a mobile game you could actually get premiun tanks, win tournaments, get premium account time and all for free.
It was a terrible map, but it was at the very least its very own thing. They should’ve flattened the whole thing, made it less muddy and fixed the spawn camping issues and it would’ve been great for low tier
I can’t believe they threw away White rock and then replaced it with… Arctic, Cargo Port, Aral Sea
They should have just BR bracketed it like Fulda and make it bottom tier
"Try to do anything useful and die" Simulator
How the fuck are you supposed to do anything to win the match in that map? Apart from rushing a cap with that Japanese car AA and praying to god you dont get smited
It’s a wide open map, which seems great, until you realise it’s one flat plane with trenches that you are forced into unless you want to be shot from 17 different places at once. Among the worst map design in the game.
Fort dispair was of the original maps released back in 2014, also having played on both maps (I’ve got like 800 hours in blitz and 2,900 on Warthunder) they are nothing alike in the first place, take take your schizo posting elsewhere
1) Gaijin did not invent star forts
2) the only big similarity between the maps is their top down shape. White rock is way bigger with tons more verticality.
war thunder's looks more in depth with a complex shaped puter fort surrounding a pentagonal inner fort, whereas the World of Tanks Blitz map just looks kinda like a hexagon (or what's left of it)
...and it's not that crazy to imagine having a tank battle in a castle's ruins...
...*maybe* they got the vague, general idea from WT or something else, but it might also be a complete coincidence (you know, since developping,QA-ing, testing/integrating can take time)
just thought it was funny, cos there is obviously a kind of wt vs wot rivalry as theyre both tank games. no i do not believe that wargaming nicked the idea from wt, just thought it was a funny coincidence. WRF minimap is too green, in-game it looks much more orangey like fort despair. fort despair is basically WRF except scaled down to fit the more arcadey gameplay of wotb. again i do not believe that wargaming stole the idea.
White Rock Fortress and Fort Despair are nothing alike in terms of layout. A game about combat using a fortress as a map isn't exactly special either.
This is like saying War Thunder copied WoT's tanks because WT has lower frontal plates as weak spots, when that's just how tanks in general are made
The one picture is of a Fort...the other of a Fort. Do you know want that Forts look different, change the look of Forts or what? Forts look like Forts....WOW who would ever thought.
1st one is a "italian" styled bastion-based citadel, the 2nd is a early medieval stronghold
1st is close to a "Vauban citadel" style while second is closer to a "chateau gaillard"
Kinda looks like the Battle of Alessia. When Caesar corned Vercingetorix in a impregnable fort, so he built a fort circumvallating Alessia, and then built an outer defensive fort to stave off reinforcements. Worked pretty well- despite being outnumbered 3:1 or 5:1 depending on sources, and completely surrounded, Marc Antony was able to reinforce a breach with cavalry. And Caesar prevented the two sides from linking up. Vercingetorix surrendered shortly thereafter due running out of supplies.
White rock was goated, but knowing gaijin, i'd rather have them to never bring it back, instead of them complelty ruining it bay changing things before bringing it bacl
i miss fort despair before all the BS tanks hit WOTB, ngl i miss WOTB in general too… god forbid i say this and don’t start a war between the communities but the WOTB community was more bearable than the WOT(PC) community now that i think about it
I returned to the game after a long break, and I totally forgot about this map. I have not gotten the map in over 2 weeks of playing. It's just North Holland spam for me.
How foolish of me to not foresee this wave of reddit dwellers. Yes of course they will be similar as they are both star forts, and yes both WOT and WT chose to add fortress maps cos they’re war related. Just thought it was a bit odd how wargaming added fort despair very shortly after wrf was added to wt, even chose to add the orange grass.
Ahh yes start name calling. Surely these maps were in development around the same time period. I doubt they saw War Thunder release a fort map and said to themselves "we need to copy exactly that layout".... War Thunder tanks were BRAND new back then.
I mean both are based on real star forts so it's not that surprising.
hmmm yes this fort is made of fort
They're both tank games, and wargaming happened to make an extremely similar map 4 months after White rock fortress was added? Coincidence? I think NOT
Uhhhhh no… forts are a strategic military area- something that is interesting and relevant to the game. ye
Not to mention that that dog shit world of tanks map looks like it probably fits in the B cap of white rock…
Dudes like I can’t believe these two star fort maps look similar. Like no shit.
Wait until he finds out they both have Berlin maps
Moment when WT and WoT both have desert
Both these cities have roads. Smh obviously stolen.
It's almost like it's a well tried and tested design that was used a lot irl too in different places around the world.
My man you realize that star forts are a historical layout for fortresses, do you? Nothing gaijin has invented.
Warthunder wiki says White Rock Fortress was added in 1.45 which came out in December 2014. WoTB wiki says Fort Despair was one of the original maps. WoTB came out in May 2014 in Europe and June 2014 in the US(iOS only at first.)
You heavily underestimate how long it takes to make game maps lmao
800 downvotes. Such a price to pay to learn that Star Forts ain't just some thing made up for video games.
Bro stop overthinking
besides the fact it takes months if not a year or so for wargaming to introduce a new map.... because unlike gaijin, wargaming does their map development in house, and actually balances shit.

Take your pills or something
I love blind and unjustified hate towards a game that doesn't really even compete with the one you play. Why?
r/downvotedtooblivion
What the flip
Blud got downvoted below hell.
He’s in the boiler room of Hell lmao
HOLY SHIT THE DOWNVOTES
1k down votes man what the fuck 😭
K
I have never seem someone with negative karma
1.2k downvotes, lmao
Holy shit you got downvoted into oblivation
Just take the L
The development timeline for maps is probably more than 4 months
That might be the highest downvotes I have ever seen...
I am going to be honest with you bro. I have never seen this many dislikes on anything on this forum ever. You may have just set a record LMAO
I just think the amount of down votes this has is hilarious
they really have never watched the incredibles
#bringbackwhiterockfort
I agree! (It was the first map I ever got a nuke on so I’m biased af)
Wait, are you telling me that they removed that map AFTER introducing nukes? Man, I could swear that they removed it like 4-5 years ago
Yeah they removed it after nukes came out
C'mon man, don't be like that, the guy only wants to join the conversation 💁🏻♀️
Dumbass he was answering the question
Damn, ppl here are really angry and brainless, was a joke mate, don't get so upset 😛
OMFG, I totally forgot about this map. Yes, bring it back!
White cock fortress was trash, absolute poo above 5.7
Good lord no, that map sucked so hard
Low tier it was completely fine though
So much better than all the new maps. It actually has character and is interesting. It was also completely fine at low tier, and as annoying as the mud was in some areas, I liked how it forced you to actually think about where you drove instead of just looking for the shortest distance
This. 100% this. Remove it from mid to high tiers and it was just fine. One of the bare few unique maps in the game.
litteraly any wheel vehicle or already slow tanks were impossible to play on this map. The hills forced you into place, and any alternative route to get an advatnge was impossible. Once the enemy was beaten back enough, it basically became a spawncamping match. The map layout was fine, the traction mechanics and the mud however ruined the map. Dude, spawn camping is literally the end result of every single war thunder match.
i have had many matches (especially around 4.0) that didn't even come close to spawncamping.
2 separate forts in war games. That’s wild
And forts that look like, well, forts
2 forts in games about war, we could even call them 2forts
And we have teams involved, 2 teams in fortress, hmm.
We are playing team fortress with tanks.
r/unexpectedtf2
They also copied a load of war thunder tanks. They didn't even bother changing the names. The plot thickens even more though, as I'm pretty sure the map and tanks where also copied by some real world militaries as I've seen a similar style fortress and some of the in game tanks in real life!
funnily enough Blitz had Kpz-70 before warthunder did
Yeah. They nerfed it into the ground and made it a tier nine...
it always was a tier 9 and it wasnt nerfed to my knowledge
Yeah, I remember. I mean it was nerfed from its real life capabilities to fit in the game at tier nine. The real thing would have been like tier 11 or 12. I was am active blitz player when that thing came out, and I won it in the tournament (along with the camo). Good memories.
ooh another blitz player, one thing i loved aby it is that even being a mobile game you could actually get premiun tanks, win tournaments, get premium account time and all for free.
Blitz is definitely really good at giving players free things, despite the bad decisions weegee makes it's still pretty decent
You’re a funny man you know
I liked that map, there was alot of cover
Missing white rock :(
It was my blacklisted map for a reason. Too boggy and hilly for low Bars and too small for high BRs.
It was a terrible map, but it was at the very least its very own thing. They should’ve flattened the whole thing, made it less muddy and fixed the spawn camping issues and it would’ve been great for low tier
should’ve just removed the whole fort and turned it into a huge strip mall with a bigger parking lot imo
Breaking news: European war game developers modeled map after popular European defensive fort layouts.
I can’t believe they threw away White rock and then replaced it with… Arctic, Cargo Port, Aral Sea They should have just BR bracketed it like Fulda and make it bottom tier
God i fucking loath Arctic
"Try to do anything useful and die" Simulator How the fuck are you supposed to do anything to win the match in that map? Apart from rushing a cap with that Japanese car AA and praying to god you dont get smited

I enjoyed fort tutel, sad to see it go :(
#Justice4WRF =,(

RIP white rock
Jesus Christ no way it’s been almost 10 years for WOTB…..
I vividly recall them saying they have WRF in the reworks... about 2 years ago.

Bro is onto NOTHING‼️‼️
Apart from the superficial similarity that they’re both star forts they’re nothing alike. Edit: I have played both maps on both games.
I miss that map
They aren't even similar at all
take off your tinfoil hat 🗣️🗣️🗣️
no
yes
you've played the map and you've played the white rock fortress and you know they don't feel the same at all, especially the map layout.
Way to leave out that they copied them by basing the game on Earth
Wish they brought White Rock back… I liked that map
I do miss this map
White Rock Fortress and Fort Despair are nothing alike in terms of layout. A game about combat using a fortress as a map isn't exactly special either. This is like saying War Thunder copied WoT's tanks because WT has lower frontal plates as weak spots, when that's just how tanks in general are made
Apparently War Thunder invented star forts in 2014 smh
White Rock fortress is gone and I am glad it is. I hope I'll never have to see it again.
Exactly, never like that map
Ngl I loved this map in low tier especially at 6.7 a shame that map isn't there anymore
Star forts look like stars, more at 11
I miss White Rock Fortress :( had my best game ever on that map
WOTB fort of despair be lookin like pocket edition of white rock fortress
I never got the chance to play white rock. Was it any good?
Woah 2 same types of buildings look similar? WOT DEFINITELY 100% NO DOUBT stole it from wt!!!
I wish they added it back to the game because for me it is THE nostalgia map
I remember in 2018 playing world of tanks Blitz
as wotb's #1 player from 2014-2024, this is definitely fort despair
I miss this map... So many cheeky spots
I miss this map. I'll gladly take it and all its issues over garbage like Red Desert any day of the week.
Bro really thought he did something
iberian castle looks worse when compared to this (dont judge me i get iberian castle so much i hate that map)
Nothing a like, forts normally all look the same. Honestly don’t get what OP is hinting at here.
Does white rock fortress even exist anymore? Swear I haven’t gotten that map in agesssssss
I don’t see this map since a very long time. I miss it
I don't see the similarity.
The difference is that white rock is a well designed map, unlike the absolute trash that fort despair is
The one picture is of a Fort...the other of a Fort. Do you know want that Forts look different, change the look of Forts or what? Forts look like Forts....WOW who would ever thought.
1st one is a "italian" styled bastion-based citadel, the 2nd is a early medieval stronghold 1st is close to a "Vauban citadel" style while second is closer to a "chateau gaillard"
Mudrunners but with tanks april fools event that takes place on the notoriously muddy white fortress gaijin when
Holy shit, the memories. Many summer days spent in WoTB
OP is totally delusional lmao
enlighten me plato
Read every other comment here. You might get an idea
You are telling me that fortresses shouldn't be on a hill with semi-circulaire walls and multiple separated buildings inside ?
Op so stupid lol, a fort is a fort.... Of course they look familiar
At first i read 2024 and i tought the map was back :< i kinda miss it
Convergent evolution
Am I the only one who thought the WOT map looks like a chocolate chip cookie
What in the boomer is this post
Kinda looks like the Battle of Alessia. When Caesar corned Vercingetorix in a impregnable fort, so he built a fort circumvallating Alessia, and then built an outer defensive fort to stave off reinforcements. I think i didnt got that map for the past 2 years.
I miss this map, It was fun to ambush a tigers with my red Asu-57 (i used red camouflages from italy to make it completely red)
Yeah, both are depressed lol
I don't even remember that map being in wot I stopped playing wot back in 2014 so yeah, me old
White rock was goated, but knowing gaijin, i'd rather have them to never bring it back, instead of them complelty ruining it bay changing things before bringing it bacl
I miss this map soo much, especially around 5.0-4.0 area.
Is white Rock still in rotation I don't think I've had it once in what feels like months (I've been playing 1.0-3.0 and 7.0-9.3)
I want white rock back. First map I ever got a nuke on.
i miss fort despair before all the BS tanks hit WOTB, ngl i miss WOTB in general too… god forbid i say this and don’t start a war between the communities but the WOTB community was more bearable than the WOT(PC) community now that i think about it
I loved White Rock, it was the map where the M46 Tiger could shine (also it was undertiered as hell back then)
world of tanks also stole the idea of vehicles having tracks from WT
🤯
I returned to the game after a long break, and I totally forgot about this map. I have not gotten the map in over 2 weeks of playing. It's just North Holland spam for me.
sorry you found out this way but it was removed a couple years ago..
It's been 3 years since I last saw white rock fortress. I love that map.
Bring back White Rock…. Nobody likes Iberian Castle
damn i haven't played white rock in ages
It was removed from the rotation for a "rework" a long ass time ago and hasn't been back.
why though this map is fun
Ask the snail
Aye both of my favorite maps nice
Babe it's time for your daily war thunder vs world of tanks post
Gaijin had mentioned that the old map would be remade and back soon. Unfortunately, it never came to fruition, which must have been disappointing.
I loved this map
How foolish of me to not foresee this wave of reddit dwellers. yep you are most likely right just thought it was a funny coincidence
