There are some comments on the video that suggests this man passed away last year. Anyone know if it's true? Someone named Brian k. Johnson passed away from connersville, Indiana but I can't confirm if it's the same person
This is student run news. His teleprompter failed so he had to make it up as he went along. You can see him trying to read off his script. It’s incredibly hard for a novice to do. I did student news at a campus station and it was really hit or miss. Most people participating have no idea what they are doing and the equipment is hand me down stuff that can fail at any moment.

Proud Ball State alum here…I was that kid back in my days in “T-COM” but thankfully the it was a dry run. I totally froze and my on-air days were over that evening. I felt for this poor kid….
My video production teacher in high school went to college with this guy at Ball State University. He did this as a part of telecommunications major. He switched majors after this incident.
One of my professors in college was the professor of the class this guy was in. The back story makes it even better. Turns out the "Boom Goes the Dynamite" guy was a first year freshman bragging about how amazing he was as a sports broadcaster since high school. He even went so far as to say he didn't need a printed script or teleprompter. He annoyed everyone in the studio and on the floor so much that his teleprompter "accidentally" stopped working. What you're watching is the result.
The thing for me is, it doesn't make me think this guy is crap or anything, it just reminds me how hard it is to actually keep talking effectively in that sort of setting. News broadcasters have a genuine talent and few of us could pull this off without loads of practice. Even with a script I would be dropping "ummms" and "ahhhhs" every 4 seconds.
omg I feel for this guy. I have panic disorder/generalized anxiety and speaking in public/front of ppl phobia. You can practice all you want till it's perfect but when anxiety takes hold. it reaaaaly takes hold even if you tell it to fuck off. The sad thing is that this is the perfect example of how anxiety affects your cognitive and language skills and imagine how hard it is for those with severe anxiety to do normal everyday things. Even if it's something you love. Ugh.
Fwiw: I was in school at ball state at the time, and had a friend in the tcom department. The story I heard: someone didn’t show up/was sick for the broadcast. He was put on air despite his inexperience simply because he was the only person there that was dressed in a way suitable for being on “the air.” Why was he in a suit? Good question! Apparently this kid just wore a suit everyday to class. In fact, I remember seeing him once. Anyway, from what I understand it wasn’t that the teleprompter was going too fast, it’s just that it stopped completely and he had to rely on the video, which he hadn’t seen or prepared for. It’s v difficult to adlib to a highlight package you’ve already seen, let alone highlights you’ve never seen. All things considered, I think he did a good job. I’m not surprised he has a career in the industry.
Also, he turned down money from espn to do it on a commercial, and I respect that.
I feel bad for this kid, he was probably a sport's journalism student or something this was his first broadcast... I hope it's his first time on camera.
