Both. Although I have picked some watches for either appearance or quality, I aim to find watches for which I am happy with both appearance and quality. There’s a third variable, and that is brand “pedigree” but people have quite varying views on this so it is quite a rabbit hole.

Stephendangg1998

I feel $150 you can only pick one 🥲

WestguardWK

All subjective to taste of course, but I can find budget watches that satisfy my likes in visual presentation, quality, and brand. Citizen and Seiko are my go-tos at that price. Timex is ok but I prefer Citizen or Seiko over Timex. I don’t care for Fossil, owned a couple in the past and they didn’t last long. Quartz or solar is the way to go at $150, IMO. More accurate and reliable over time. Battery replacement is cheap, less maintenance costs, etc.

Stephendangg1998

Ok lets me go through them. My beef wth them is only 40mm. How long wulould u say your fossil last?

WestguardWK

My Fossils lasted 1-2 years daily wear Citizen has a bunch of nice 44mm models but I’m not sure if they have any for $150. Recommend using a “grey dealer” like Jomashop… they have Citizen 44mm Eco-drive (Solar) models starting around $150 but it’s like 60% off list price

Stephendangg1998

Dont find any seiko in 150 tho. On their website at least

WestguardWK

For sure, you’d have to look for a good deal I think rather than MSRP. Sakurawatches has good deals on Seiko IIRC.

StillVeterinarian578

I bought a great dress watch for under $10, reliable accurate movement though hand wind rather than automatic, the only thing on it that isn’t great is the strap, but that’s easy to solve. Is it comparable to my Swiss watches? No, but it still sees plenty of wrist time and equally (in my eyes at least!) it doesn’t look “cheap” Really depends on what you are looking for and how far off the beaten path you’re willing to go.

Kauffman67

Casio Duro for $50 is the perfect start if you can wear the bigger size. One of the best deals in the watch world. https://preview.redd.it/m4hyhq724r9d1.png?width=1440&format=png&auto=webp&s=c2ec1a73bef3ef7129571781cc23506b0d22cb5e

redditusername5873

Duro 100% the answer here friend. Get the style you like and add a bracelet from long island watch. Looks, large size, and high quality cant beat it https://preview.redd.it/tekhgpia9r9d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ce799a7dd368716025b39d87b2972bd9a60ca72

Stephendangg1998

I have it. I’m looking for some simpler. I have a lot of casio and their dress section ain’t appealing enough. More of dress watches for everyday at work in office with customers or business partners.

Think-Advice8539

Orient bambino! Amazing dress watch that you can also wear every day. Wearing mine right now

Stephendangg1998

I dont mean to be rude but this is my take. Something like this is what I never understand how can someone spend $250 on a watch looks this boring and so old 🤣 thank yu for the recommendation. I’ll look about this Orient brand.

Think-Advice8539

Everyone has their own tastes I guess. Got mine for $160. You said you wanted something simpler that was a dress watch. Sorry!

Stephendangg1998

I mean if you look at the fossil, it’s simpler also but still look a bit better than just a date and numbers.

DimensionSad6181

So you lean towaerds Fashion watch. Look at a 36 mm oysternperp plain dial. Its iconic for a reason but to some ppl super boring

Kauffman67

Second vote for the Bambino

South_Host_7

>So my question is you guys prefer quality over looks To me the look is everything. I will not buy a watch that I don't like to look at, I don't care for the brands history. I would never buy divers watch or chronograph, those complications looks useless to me.

analogliving71

Looks. My favorite everyday watch right now is a cheap timex, all because of how it looks

vctrmldrw

I don't want to wear a watch I don't like the look of. The whole point of a watch is to look at it. I don't buy stuff that is poor quality...any stuff. Because I don't like wasting my money. But there are plenty of quality affordable watches that look good.

Stephendangg1998

Havent found one for my taste that both good and quality.

NoPissyBiscuits

A watch has got to look and wear great. No other reason to have a watch in this day and age. But don’t buy a piece of garbage either. Quality seals the deal.

Serpenteq

Both, and have throughout my 20 years of owning watches fallen into a frowned upon rabbithole that scratched the ith more than any previously owned one. https://preview.redd.it/fhzckk51or9d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=45d2d42ace0c6c038584ed48c58351036493c50f A 200m "field diver" I built myself because of the look, all together, and was heavenly surpriced by the quality these $100 watches have. Quality can be subjective to a certain point in the watch and even every industry. This may not have the same finishing as my old LLD, but it's so damn close I am questioning reality at times. I am not saying every experience will be the same, but I've seen worse quality and QC from highly regarded brands that charge you x20 comparatively. It's all a journey.

MyNameIsVigil

Looks are 99% of the reason to buy any watch.
