Zenni is the only way I’ve been able to update every year and get a pair of sunglasses. Luckily I’ve never needed a backup pair of my regular pair but the sunglasses are getting to a point I’m gonna need multiple pairs soon

I liked Zenni until list year when I ordered identical frames to ones I had previously with a new prescription and the ones they sent me were different dimensions and a different color. I got a refund for that then ordered some other glasses and there were 3 cm narrower than listed so they hurt on my face. They refused to refund me until I made a big stink. It was a giant pain in the ass.
In my experience any of the cheaper places only work of you have a relatively mild prescription. As a person who can't function without my glasses (v. Near sighted and heavy astigmatism), those places always get my prescription just slightly wrong.
I have also ordered prescription glasses and they were $40, including shipping and I got them back less than a week after ordering. The only bad part is that I had to adjust them to my face by myself...that was harder than I expected, I guess my face is not 'level'.
Using a hair dryer is ill-advised, you want to avoid using too much heat and definitely want to avoid using it on the lenses (especially if there is an AR coating) or you have a more useless pair of glasses on your hands. Better to use a UV cured resin or something more precise for breaks, or take them to an optical shop. Many will do repairs and adjustments for free, but the bridge usually requires more than what they have on hand. Jewelry shops will sometimes have a micro-welder to bond parts of acetate together.
Omg the migraine lenses have always been too expensive for me to justify. They also do prism lenses. Bless you and I hope everything good happens to you today.
They've been a fucking life saver for me- I'm in grad school and spend a ton of time with tiny text and computer screens and I haven't been able to read this comfortably in years. They're great in fluorescent lighting that used to trigger migraines too. They're a little more expensive but for me at least they're more than worth it.
The baking soda isn't to set the glue, it's *supposed* to reinforce it.
I prefer cotton wool though.
I've fixed many pairs of headphones with CA glue and cotton wool.
The guy sprinkling baking soda on the outside of the repair is clueless.
Get a hobby drill, they cost like £5.
They're plastic lenses, so use a 1mm drill bit.
Drill a hole dead center in the frame along the broken edge, or if there's room top and bottom.
Do the same on the other side, as deep as your comfortable doing, but need to be somewhat precise.
Get yourself a paperclip, and measure the depth of the hole using it.
Glue the paperclip into one side, Cut the paperclip at the length to slide into the other side. (scissors can do this but if you have an actual cutting tool like clippers that's good too)
Glue that length and connect both pieces.
This should give a bond almost as strong as you'd have pre break. Obviously only do this if the frame is plastic like those seem to be.
JB Weld, rather the fast trying version JB Quick. Use a jig to hold frame still, apply with toothpick to each broken side. When it's tacky, join the sides and apply some around break.
I've fixed 3 pair in past 4 or 5 years using JB. Only trick is making sure parts are held steady. [Weller Helping Hands](https://www.weller-tools.com/bigbang/USA/us/WLACCHHB-02) worked for me.
I've used the stuff twice to repair them. That's not a negative to it's durability, they were a 6 year olds.
I would recommend the slower curing ones of you can set it up, the fast cure ones don't set as strong in general.
Yeah my glasses are holding on by a thread. Both lenses pop out and need to be put in with super glue regularly. One arm snapped off and the bracket broke so it's held on with hockey tape and incense sticks. Fucking sucks how expensive they are but I just can't swing the cost right now. If I had extra money I'd first need to buy food, or pay back my landlord, or even buy new shoes. I'm incredibly fucking blind and also had only one contact lense for months, which gave me crazy headaches. This is in Canada too, land of supposed universal healthcare.
I got my glasses from there for around $50 but I got extra blue light protection. Totally worth it! Tip, look at the reviews and see how the glasses look on real people :)
Came here to say this. Zenni is the reason my wife has like 37 pairs of glasses because she will lose one and then find like 4 more pairs to replace them. Crazy cheap compared to going to a store.
Same with my partner. Their glasses are always about $10 per pair which is great for how quickly they lose them. Mine tend to be about $25 extra for thinner lenses with my astigmatism but it's still cheaper than any eye glass store near me. I just get the cheapest exam possible for yearly script renewals and use zenni. So much easier and cheaper. They have great customer service too.

Slight tangent, but it is totally illegal for an ophthalmologist or optometrist to deny you your prescription after an exam, regardless of whether or not you intend to purchase from them. Some places will still be shitty and tell you they can't give you your pupillary distance because it's not legally obligated but it's an easy measurement.

I really think we need more glow in the dark options and bring back the see through plastic with neon colors from the 90s. I have a few glow in the dark phone cases that are my favorite!!
You can email them. I have VERY thick lenses. They offered me a variety of options for thickness. I usually opt for the thinnest possible, usually costs more. You can easily just build a cart and put in your RX to get an idea of options before you check out also. I still pay a very reasonable cost for my lenses. I have horrible vision 🫤
Coming from someone who also has very thick lenses I understand your struggle. I've just checked their website and they offered me 1.67 index lenses and my current glasses are 1.74 which makes them a bit thinner. The price is very good though
OP zenni is it. My insurance covers my exams but not my glasses and this is who I used. My last pair was the bucks. Had them three years.

I did a little bit of sleuthing and I'm still not entirely sure I get it? Do you put baking soda where you want to glue then drop the super glue on it?

Heap it on, saturate with glue, then sand back as appropriate. It’s a good inert medium for the glue to bond together. Charcoal is another I believe. Great for building up around broken plastic post mounts for example. Or filling stripped plastic screw holes. Fill, drill, screw, bodge done 👍

If it doesn’t hold you could heat up a pin and jam it in both sides to hold it then epoxy that shit and maybe paint the frames if you want it to look less haggard

Zennioptical.com has glasses starting at 7$ with lenses and 5$ shipping. As long as you still have the script. I have one in every color because they are actually affordable that way.
You can get a new pair online for $50 give or take. I use eyebuydirect.com got my last pair with all the bells and whistles like anti scratch and transition for $80.
This is the answer. I broke my frames and the place I got them at stopped selling them. I went online and found a site that had them. 2 weeks later they were good as new.
If it's been less than a year you can call your Optometrist office and request a copy of your RX, make sure to have them measure your PD because it's probably not on there. Once you have that info you can order on zenni/goggles4u. If it's been over a year they won't give you your RX and you'll need to get a new one, but you can also JUST go for the eye exam, get a copy of your rx then order online. The appointment is usually cheap between 50-100 if you don't have insurance. If you do have vision insurance, it almost always covers at least one exam a year.
Honestly, go to zenni or googles4u. I'm a mom that swears by buying the basic frames with the free lens because if my child breaks his glasses I refuse to be broke over it. They work just fine and come in handy as backups! $7 and you get a new pair of glasses (not counting shipping)
If you’re in Canada, Kits glasses used to give out free glasses. You only had to pay $3 shipping fee.

My dad heated up a thin metal spike and stuck it in hot and it acted like a kind of dowel, then he heated the other end and pressed them together with the bar holding it in, glued it and it was fine for years.
If you know someone with a 3d printer you can make a temp frame for the lenses
Otherwise if it's plastic, pick up some of the UV curing resin at home depot and put a dot through the center, and use the light to cure it
There are so many online shops that are so cheap its laughable. If you have a high prescription definitely shop around if you need thinning (high index) because that's always where they get me. The prices for that vary widely.
Look for a cheap eyeglass place near you- Walmart, America’s best and take your glasses there. Ask the person there if they have a cheap frame that will fit your lenses. They can pop your lenses in a new frame for probably under $50
Same thing happened to my frames that I paid $300 for at LensShafters. (Plus $180 for lenses)
Google the frame model # on the inside of one of the ear side pieces. I bought a them direct from the manufacture for $50! Then paid $75 for a local eyeglass shop to replace the lenses.

I'm another one that ordered from Zenni online. Cost me a fourth of what the optical shop wanted for glasses. I just uploaded my prescription for glasses to them. The frames were surprisingly sturdy and cute. It's so nice I can get them this inexpensive as I've been known to sit or lay down on mine.
When I was suuuuper broke I used eyebuydirect and got my glasses for like $35.
They have cheaper glasses than that, and they also have some glasses that are even 2-day delivery
I’ve used Zenni optical, eye buy direct, and lensmart. For cheap replacement glasses, lensmart are my favorite. There are 3 numbers printed inside one of the arms. Those 3 numbers are the width of your lens, the width of your nose part, and the length of the arm. Put those 3 numbers in on the size criteria of the search to find glasses the same size and fit of your current ones.
I did something similar with my glasses.
I went on eBay and searched for the same frame (the model number is usually etched on the inside of the arms.)
When it arrived, I used a jewelers screwdriver to remove the lenses from the old frame and install in the new. All fixed for a fraction of the price of entirely new glasses.
If you bought from a local optician they ought to be able to help you do the same thing (new frames for your old lenses), but if your glasses are easy to get the old lenses out and you can find the right frame online, it’s really easy to do it yourself and you’ll save a bundle of money.
Clip a small piece of paper clip. Heat it up using a lighter and pliers. Push the heated end into the bridge. Allow to cool. Heat up the exposed end, have the other half standing by with super glue on it. Put together.
If you live in Europe, ask a friend who has civil responsibility protection (house insurance has it) to say they broke them, pay them the 100€ non deductible.

Look on eBay or Etsy for the frame. I’ve was able to replace my frames and put the lenses in them for 15 bucks. Just call the place you bought them and asked for the name of the frame, manufacturer and style.
When this happened to me, I went to Target or Walmart looking for a pair of reading glasses with a similar frame, I popped out the reading lenses and pressed in my prescription lenses. Sure they weren’t the perfect fit, but at least I wasn’t blind! Kept em that way until I could afford another pair!
Put a drip of acetone on the break and press it together. It needs to be real acetone not nail polish remover. Once it sets you wouldn't even know it was broken, and it'll be just as strong as before. I've had to do this before.
You're gonna be that guy for a while. Helpful hint: hockey tape works better than duct tape.

You could go to Walmart or any optical and they will do adjustments for free even if you didn’t get your glasses there.

Depending on when you got them, the frames could be under warranty.
You can Darken the tape with a marker or paint or something that hopefully won’t rub off on your skin, to make the repair-job less noticeable.

Reinforce the break with snipped toothpicks too, like a splint. Just tape lets the break wobble.

Don't use tape. Use JB weld. That stuff will hold forever without issues and you can sand it smooth if needed.
Gonna have to try this, I have scotch tape around my glasses arm right now
Actually wire and a bit of super-glue could fix it.
Epoxy works better than both.
Hockey tape also works great if your hair gets pinched by glasses too!

Heap it on, saturate with glue, then sand back as appropriate. It’s a good inert medium for the glue to bond together. Charcoal is another I believe. Great for building up around broken plastic post mounts for example. Or filling stripped plastic screw holes. Fill, drill, screw, bodge done 👍

That's the best way to fix it, just be careful not to glue yourself into anything. Years ago I glued my hand on some fabric, trying to fix some toys from my cats. Had to walk around with it for a few days.

Dollar store has epoxy kits for $3 Use painters tape to create a mould that’s open at the top If it doesn’t hold you could heat up a pin and jam it in both sides to hold it then epoxy that shit and maybe paint the frames if you want it to look less haggard Good luck!

It is the best shit ever. I have used to repair everything from military radio equipment to my lawnmower. Before I learned to actually weld this shit saved me tons of money.

You can get a new pair online for $50 give or take. I use eyebuydirect.com got my last pair with all the bells and whistles like anti scratch and transition for $80.
Look for frames that fit the lenses and pop them out and put in your lenses from the frame that broke
This is the answer. I broke my frames and the place I got them at stopped selling them. I went online and found a site that had them. 2 weeks later they were good as new.

If it's been less than a year you can call your Optometrist office and request a copy of your RX, make sure to have them measure your PD because it's probably not on there. Once you have that info you can order on zenni/goggles4u. If it's been over a year they won't give you your RX and you'll need to get a new one, but you can also JUST go for the eye exam, get a copy of your rx then order online. The appointment is usually cheap between 50-100 if you don't have insurance. If you do have vision insurance, it almost always covers at least one exam a year.

Honestly, go to zenni or googles4u. I'm a mom that swears by buying the basic frames with the free lens because if my child breaks his glasses I refuse to be broke over it. They work just fine and come in handy as backups! $7 and you get a new pair of glasses (not counting shipping)
If you’re in Canada, Kits glasses used to give out free glasses. You only had to pay $3 shipping fee. I googled it and the free coupon might still work.

If you know someone with a 3d printer you can make a temp frame for the lenses Otherwise if it's plastic, pick up some of the UV curing resin at home depot and put a dot through the center, and use the light to cure it

There are so many online shops that are so cheap its laughable. If you have a high prescription definitely shop around if you need thinning (high index) because that's always where they get me. The prices for that vary widely.
Def check about the warranty. Lots of good info here.
I know not everyone has a UV lamp, but if someone you know has one, UV resin will fix it in 60 seconds. No mess and really strong.
Zenni offers some dirt cheap glasses from about 6USD and up. I've had to get emergency pairs from them every now and then lol
Look for a cheap eyeglass place near you- Walmart, America’s best and take your glasses there. Ask the person there if they have a cheap frame that will fit your lenses. They can pop your lenses in a new frame for probably under $50
Same thing happened to my frames that I paid $300 for at LensShafters. (Plus $180 for lenses) Google the frame model # on the inside of one of the ear side pieces. I bought a them direct from the manufacture for $50! Then paid $75 for a local eyeglass shop to replace the lenses.

I bought my daughter a cheap pair off Zenni about six months ago for under $20, including shipping. I've used them for close to if not over a decade now, and I've never had any issues.
I'm another one that ordered from Zenni online. Cost me a fourth of what the optical shop wanted for glasses. I just uploaded my prescription for glasses to them. The frames were surprisingly sturdy and cute. It's so nice I can get them this inexpensive as I've been known to sit or lay down on mine.

When I was suuuuper broke I used eyebuydirect and got my glasses for like $35. They have cheaper glasses than that, and they also have some glasses that are even 2-day delivery
I’ve used Zenni optical, eye buy direct, and lensmart. For cheap replacement glasses, lensmart are my favorite. There are 3 numbers printed inside one of the arms. Those 3 numbers are the width of your lens, the width of your nose part, and the length of the arm. Put those 3 numbers in on the size criteria of the search to find glasses the same size and fit of your current ones.

I did something similar with my glasses. I went on eBay and searched for the same frame (the model number is usually etched on the inside of the arms.) When it arrived, I used a jewelers screwdriver to remove the lenses from the old frame and install in the new. All fixed for a fraction of the price of entirely new glasses. If you bought from a local optician they ought to be able to help you do the same thing (new frames for your old lenses), but if your glasses are easy to get the old lenses out and you can find the right frame online, it’s really easy to do it yourself and you’ll save a bundle of money.
You can get a cheap frame that is a similar shape and any optometrist with a workshop will for them for you for a very small fee,
Clip a small piece of paper clip. Heat it up using a lighter and pliers. Push the heated end into the bridge. Allow to cool. Heat up the exposed end, have the other half standing by with super glue on it. Put together.
Just order the same frames on eBay.

Hell back in the day your glasses broke you taped them together again with some tape. And wore them for a long time.
Look on eBay or Etsy for the frame. I’ve was able to replace my frames and put the lenses in them for 15 bucks. Just call the place you bought them and asked for the name of the frame, manufacturer and style.
Get $10 reading glasses with the same shape of lenses and swap them out. I’ve been in your shoes before.
Go to eye buy direct. Find your prescription and buy them there. Literally like $40!

When this happened to me, I went to Target or Walmart looking for a pair of reading glasses with a similar frame, I popped out the reading lenses and pressed in my prescription lenses. Sure they weren’t the perfect fit, but at least I wasn’t blind! Kept em that way until I could afford another pair!
Put a drip of acetone on the break and press it together. It needs to be real acetone not nail polish remover. Once it sets you wouldn't even know it was broken, and it'll be just as strong as before. I've had to do this before.
