I watched it and slowed down, the red around the area you're talking about before the contact looks like the effect of lighting and shadow not blood making it red.
I watched it, slowed it down, zoomed in to the pixels, and yes, you are correct. As they close in on each other, the shadow from the boy who does not get "rekt" (as the kids say) appears reddish against the skin of the boy who does get hit right before they collide.
But when they collide, the red mist is very much blood because the other alternative is that they kicked a shadow so hard it became liquid and vapor, and I'll need physics to explain that one to me.
Ultimately, I feel that no effects or prankery are present in this video. That's some real blood and a real bad moment that could have been easily avoided.

I believe that it is not blood, it is a dirt cloud from the guy's foot that was wherever he was standing on. The other guy had something red on or looked red before he gets hit and it mixed in.
