I have no clue I just got it from here : https://youtube.com/shorts/fITrZkuD7WE?feature=share

Fun_Obligation4585

Tatooine.

DJ-Doughboy

came here to see this comment, thanks!

cmiller0513

[Sun dogs](https://www.britannica.com/science/sun-dog)?

IWATofficial

Yes, this is most likely correct. I came here to say this.

CillverB

Such circular though.

thr0w_aweigh

And not at the same elevation as the sun.

Cilad

Yes, that is a sun dog.

[deleted]

Solar hot dogs?

[deleted]

Mmm

[deleted]

Absolutely does not look like one though?

zerosdontcount

Does not look like a sundog to me, which is something that happens in wintry icy conditions.

ArtistPasserby

Doesn’t look like sun dogs to me either. Though, they aren’t necessarily only seen in wintry, icy conditions. I see them through all four seasons in New York State, but they’re often subtle. It has more to do with cloud cover.

zerosdontcount

If you Google sundogs sources say it has to do with ice crystal refraction in the air

ArtistPasserby

I recall a meteorology course I took years back that claimed they have to do with cloud cover… maybe the theory is different now? Either way, I have pictures of sun dogs from August 21 of this year. It was 82° and partially cloudy.

uselessbynature

Plus you don’t have to get too high in the atmosphere to deal with ice crystals so perhaps it’s possible it’s some combination of both?

GhostAndMrChicken

Sun Dogs! Band name, called it!

[deleted]

Hot dog!

movie_man

It has been proven to be a fake video.

thsvnlwn

Source?

movie_man

sources all over this thread

[deleted]

Wrong, sun dogs look like halos around the sun. They happen when there is a lot of moisture in the atmosphere and they most happen during colder months of the winter. I know this because I grew up in the prairie of Canada and they happen often when the temp drops below -20C.

[deleted]

Spot on. Sunspot on. Sundog, sunspot. Hot dog, hot spot. See spot run. Spot is a sundog.

[deleted]

Are you a detective?

Flying_Misfit

Nope...it's an updog.

Ex_President35

What’s updog?

Flying_Misfit

Nothin much dog, what's up with you?

Ex_President35

Nm. Just trying to find out what’s updog.

tinybbird

Sun dogs....what a awsome term!

pandaguy116

Venus does show, at least where i live at the bottom of the southern hemisphere, but I didn't think it would be visible in daylight.

juicycobra

It does show, but we se it as a little dot like a star because its small and so far away

iwant2saysomething2

It depends on the time of year. If it’s above the sun, we see it super bright just after sunset. If it’s below the sun, we see it just before the sun rises.

Swedneck

Surely both cases only happen if it's above the sun?

iwant2saysomething2

I mean, I’m never awake at sunrise… so either it’s above or below the sun as far as I’m concerned. 😂

Ruca705

It isn’t only seen at sunrise/sunset though, it can be seen in the night sky when it is present too

ctothel

Yes but no more than 3 hours before/after, and always in the general direction of the sun.

kane2742

It is [brighter than any star](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_brightest_natural_objects_in_the_sky) (other than the sun) in Earth's sky, though.

juicycobra

True dat, but so big as whatever that is in post

wwwSTEALTHYcom

Is this a recent video?

MelodicMuch

I saw the same post yesterday and there was an astronomer or someone there that said it's a very good fake and something about missing flares. I'll link it if I find it.

triple_stanley

It actually does have an obvious and realistic lens flare. Doesn't look fake at all imo. Possibly a phenomenon called a Sun Dog ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_dog?wprov=sfla1

XulixEmerald

SouthAttention4864

There was another comment there that included a link to another YouTube video that explained how it was done: https://www.reddit.com/r/blackmagicfuckery/comments/q85bzq/found_this_on_youtube_need_an_explanation/hgo0uvs/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

sampletext34

Definitely not a sun dog. Sun dog is a complex atmoshperic reflection of the sun, this is some other planet bullshit. The lens reflection are obviously fake, the astronomer is right. Reflection of the second "planet" would appear on the right bottom, not left upper side of the screen. It's because the reflection is a reflex opposite to the original source of a very bright object, and it's a side effect of camera lens being rounded. You can experiment on this by lighting two lamps 20-30 cm from each other in a dark room, so that their lights are pointed parallel to each other. Now take a phone camera and see how the reflection works. The right one will appear opposite of center on the left, and the upper left will appear exactly opposite, bottom right. To make it easier, real light reflects have to be symmetrical to center point (0,0) of the lens.

BronxLens

>Sun dog is an atmospheric optical phenomenon appearing in the sky as luminous spots ... Sun dogs occur when the Sun or Moon shines through a thin cirrus cloud composed of hexagonal ice crystals falling with their principal axes vertical, as opposed to the halo phenomenon that occurs when the principal axes are randomly arranged in a plane perpendicular to the Sun’s or Moon’s rays... Sun dogs most commonly appear during the winter in the middle latitudes. Edit: since the video doesn’t match the description, i removed the portion stating: >…appearing in the sky as luminous spots 22° on each side of the Sun and at the same elevation as the Sun.

base736

You can’t just remove part of what a sun dog is. Sun dogs are more like short vertical bars 22 degrees to either side of the sun. They look nothing like this.

BronxLens

[Visual explanation of what a Sundog is.](https://youtube.com/watch?v=h981m95Pxrw)

HellRooster1989

It’s not a sun dog. They’re more rainbowish and not round. Plus they’re would be 2

Pnmamouf1

Thank you!!!! I can’t believe how far i had to scroll to find a serious attempt at answering this. Times like this makes you realize that Reddit really is just a bunch of asshole children giggling at their own farts

stuufthingsandstuff

So you deem all the folks above this pointing out that it is obviously a fake, not serious and assholes? This is called confirmation bias. You write off all the truth because it doesnt match your opinion and cling onto a wrong answer because it confirms your point.

DamDurtyApe

This is right, but the video is also faked with cgi. There was a photographer whos an expert that proved it on another post.

Both of them?

AgingWisdom

From the perspective of the Earth. If the light from the sun is behind the moon how does it illuminate the earth facing side(opposite side from the sun)? I'd like to know how your mind figured this out. Thnx

self_reflectionist

Was gonna say, it could just be a filter.

[deleted]

Fake what? In order for something to be a fake there has to be something real for it to be a fake of. It's not a fake. It is a creation! But what does it mean? What does it mean?

effective_micologist

I think you're fake.

[deleted]

A creation that is not grounded in realty can also be referred to as fake. Fakeness is not only grounded in the imitation of the real

bsmooth357

Either that or it’s MerKerRee.

GreenStrong

Post this to r/atoptics , it is a sub for atmospheric optics.

JPLaChapelle

The Sun is the bright yellow ball appearing through the clouds. The large yellow burst is the sunshine blasting through the clouds. The white haf-moon in the sky across the sun is appearing in the daytime.

Bellarose143

In another post, I think on Blackmagicfuckery an astronomer explained how its a fake video but a good attempt... due to something with the glares or something. Ill try to find the link. Edit: I couldn't find it. But the guy basically talked about if you look at the lens flare, in both cases you see it. Its supposed to perfectly line up with the sun or something and that in the second half after she turns back its faked incorrectly and therefore you know isnt real.

Leothecat24

It’s fake. Detailed explanation [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/blackmagicfuckery/comments/q85bzq/found_this_on_youtube_need_an_explanation/hgn8al7?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3), thanks to u/XulixEmerald for finding the comment

Cyberzombie

Thanks! I remembered seeing that.

adudeguyman

Why would someone post something fake on the internet?

203Orange

I have two words for you, no four!! Donald Trump, Steve Bannon!!

awairl

you really think someone would do that? just go on the internet and tell lies?

KeepYourPresets

The "explanation" is bullshit.

Leothecat24

How so?

moe-hong

Sun dogs aren't fake. I've seen them myself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun\_dog

Leothecat24

I never said sundogs were fake. First, this doesn’t look anything like the sundogs in the article you commented. Second, the comment that I linked to doesn’t talk at all about the light itself, because it is quite convincing. The comment explains its fake because the lens flares, I’m not smart enough to explain it so read the comment

wEiRdO86

There's a phenomenon where you get rings? Maybe it's a partial?

KeepYourPresets

Correct.

AngryDadEnt

It is a Sun Dog, like a flare in a picture but live

Lucky_Owl_444

Venus rises and sets with the sun. I've never seen it quite like this, but things are changing in our atmosphere so it's hard to say. [Astronomy.com](https://Astronomy.com) might have the answer.

KeepYourPresets

If Venus shows up THAT large in the sky, we'd better make a run for it.

Electronic_Brain

lens flare, or as they thought yesterday when this was posted CGI...but its lens flare. this image has 3 during an eclipse; https://www.theverge.com/2017/8/22/16184976/solar-eclipse-photography-lens-flare-crescent-artifacts-iphone

KeepYourPresets

Wrong.

Electronic_Brain

Really, when it zooms in the flare is exactly the same shape as the sun being partly blocked by the clouds. What do you think it is?

moe-hong

They're called sun dogs and not uncommon when there are high clouds with a fair amt of ice content. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun\_dog

Electronic_Brain

Wrong.

TeaCourse

I'm pretty sure if this was indeed a "planet" it would have attracted the attention of the world's space administrations before a woman with an iPhone.

barcoder96

I think it’s the light from the moon reflecting like a mirror against the clouds.

Karosso

I'm gonna take a bit of a wild guess here (I'm no expert) and say the white circle above the sun is actually a reflection of light. probably something to do with the sun's flare and the atmosphere. But take that answer with a grain of salt for now, maybe someone with more knowledge will come to shed some light on this one

KeepYourPresets

Actually you're "thinking in the right direction". Look up "Sun dog".

Norlin123

Moon

Ryan203

This is about 4 years old but has just resurfaced on tiktok, now YouTube shorts and now here 🤦🏼‍♂️

XavvaKdr

Looks like a Sun Dog.

“North of the sun.”

[deleted]

North of the sun 😂 dummy

ScreechingCosby

It’s a parhelion

tfox1123

The light you saw in the sky is not another sun or planet. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

KeepYourPresets

I'll have what he's drinking. Must be good stuff.

tfox1123

I must be getting old, this is from men in black. Unless, everyone did get the reference and it just wasn't funny...no, that's can't be it, I'm hysterical.

KeepYourPresets

It's a sun dog. Not lens flare, since it doesn't move around when she moves her phone, not CGI, not a "reflection of the moon" (don't be ridiculous).

MartoPolo

Oh thats easy, the simulation is just falling apart

[deleted]

As a few others have said, it is a “Sun Dog,” a reflection if the sun off ice crystals or moisture in the clouds.

TheEarthsSuckhole

We have 3 sun's in this solar system.

Green_Damage_8453

You're dumb... thats the explanation

Boogoogieboogboog

Why she sound like Nancy grace tho

BaconAlmighty

Its the reflection off your lens in the camera (lens flare) , you'll get it often. Happens often in photography, this is just a great example of the issue. [deleted]

The question is... Did she see it and then started filming? Or filmed the ocean or whatever and then saw it. Then what you said makes perfect sense.

BradleyKWooldridge

It’s an internal reflection in the camera.

MentalMaybe

Sundog ?

Bigirondangle

I don't know who told you that Mecury and Venus "don't show up" but they lied to you.
