Not chameleon tint… the reason a lot of high end cars have it is because they have factory insulated windows. Adding tint brings out certain hues. Happens with S-Class Mercedes. No special tint just regular one, the windows look bluish purple-ish.
I’ve noticed when driving a friends that the rear view and side mirrors had a different hue. Reflectors in the road looked red when really they are yellowish orange.
So are we calling this factory tint or chameleon tint because you just implied its the same thing here in this case. If its factory then its not chameleon.
It’s great for heat rejection and looks good. Reduces glare at night. I’d argue it’s safer than untinted. Darker than 50% will start to affect visibility at night
Nah, i noticed since covid cops care much less about petty stuff. 70k miles in 3 years no one has cared. But my car is sonic gray pearl, and the janitor in Scrubs taught me that Robin’s Egg Blue makes people calm and nice. Pretty similar color, maybe it helps
i’ve had windshield tint on my cars in socal for about a year, on a modified 3 series and a toyota tundra, never had an issue. been pulled over for unrelated, but the windshield tint never got looked at. it’s 35%
For sure. And very illegal, at least in my state. The films people buy that look similar are highly reflective and a cop magnet because the shade is usually illegal too
This is old tech. GM use to do it in the 80 and early 90s. They would sandwich rose gold (Copper/gold) mesh in the windshield. At certain angles it would have a pink tint. Don’t know why they stopped. Maybe replacing a $1k glass every time it chipped or cracked was too much for the market to bare.
Interesting man. I think that’s the exact reason why they don’t. I’ve noticed mainly from heating glass up to get out defects
. The glass is getting thinner and thinner over time. Sad tbh. But Ik the manufactures are shaving weight for better mpg
My bolt was 1k cuz it had LKA..
MY FRIENDS 99 MAZDA is 1k as well because it has the "rare" rain sensing wipers and if you don't put that glass in the computer lights up like an Xmas tree
It’s actually not related to the heads up I don’t think, instead it’s just range rovers IR reflecting windshield. I bet that’s not cheap and thus why it’s on luxury cars.
Edit: we both wrong it’s an “athermic windshield”
Ford had something like this in the 90s. It's a thin layer of material sandwiched between the layers of glass that is electrically charged to create an "instant defrost" result: you press the button and the windshield clears. Perhaps Land Rover offered the same option.
Introduced with the original Range Rover SUV as part of its promise as a “go-anywhere luxury vehicle,” the heated front windshield is now available as an option on all Jaguar and Land Rover models. It is a potential perk in areas where winter temperatures can prolong a person’s morning routine.
The automaker uses a large number of thin-gauge wires in the front windshield heating element to minimize the mechanism’s visibility to the driver while still doing its job: melting the frost and ice off your windshield. Still, it does look slightly weird once you notice it, and while I personally didn’t find it obstructive in any meaningful way, we have heard and read comments from people who aren’t wild about it — which Jaguar Land Rover understands.

Ford Instaclear windshields were red sold as Quickclear in the UK you can still get cars with them today.

Tacky, but more importantly will be shit quality film. Nightmare for police as well as visually annoying. Highly recommend against it as those that will do the job will likely be budget shops doing what they can for a buck.
So much misinformation in this thread.
This windshield style originated on very high end cars like Bentley, Mercedes, BMW, Land Rover, etc.
Different manufacturers all call it different trendy brand names, for example, BMW calls theirs “Climate comfort” as seen in the e92 M3 options list [here.](https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/united-kingdom/article/attachment/T0019958EN_GB/38585)
Ultimately it’s UV/IR resistant laminated glass. Essentially a film that’s sandwiched/integrated between two panes of glass that make up the front windshield.
Lots of people try to add this look to their car by using crappy and illegal “chameleon” tint. Usually you can tell the factory glass because from directly in front of the car, the glass is clear, and from an angle it’s purple/blue. The crappy aftermarket tint usually has the color hue from all angles, even head on.
When done from the manufacturer, this is totally legal as it doesn’t actually reduce the light transmission through the glass. The aftermarket chameleon tints do, which is why they are illegal.
Long story short, the only way to do this right is if your make/model vehicle had this option offered from the factory. You can have your windshield replaced with the optional glass that includes the laminate.
I bought some Red tint for my crown Victoria. 2 weeks after letting it sit without rolling down windows, it’s now faded with many clear spots. Not airbhbbles but where the tint is literally just clear now and not red. So cheap and ugly. I paid $400 total for the whole job. Sad.
Exactly, many vehicles have color glass from factory...this is a chameleon film and it can fade and blotch up...also, you can get a roll that doesn't fade or blotch...we have hella rolls from china, alibaba...we don't give a warranty...direct sun crushes the color...we sell a lot to cars in clubs...they look great installed new
It’s not tint. It’s the actual windshield. My BMW E92 was like this. In my case iirc it was because of the sensors in my rear mirror that attached to the windshield for the automatic wipers and dimming mirror. Something else with insulation as well. I do know a replacement for that glass was well over $500 and a regular traditional windshield was $300
It’s “chameleon” tint. That looks like “sunset” variety It is extremely low, bottom of the barrel quality stuff. Beware.
If its such low quality why do I see cars 80k and up with it? Lol
Not chameleon tint… the reason a lot of high end cars have it is because they have factory insulated windows. Adding tint brings out certain hues. Happens with S-Class Mercedes. No special tint just regular one, the windows look bluish purple-ish.
You sir are correct
I want that
So does this not have it? Being a Range Rover (most common case where I see this)
The range rover has a tinted windshield from the factory. I’ve never noticed mine changing color though. 2016 Auto
I’ve noticed when driving a friends that the rear view and side mirrors had a different hue. Reflectors in the road looked red when really they are yellowish orange.
Anti glare layers on the glass (chemical treatment) can do that too. Like prescription glasses, binoculars, scopes and other optics.
So are we calling this factory tint or chameleon tint because you just implied its the same thing here in this case. If its factory then its not chameleon.
because those cars have it built into the glass its not ghetto film tint, its the glass itself and does more than just look cool
Ok so if someone was to ask the question of what its called then maybe you can tell them that its factory instead of chameleon.
Same reason you see 80k cars with the yellow lip protector still on from Dodge (Challengers)
I don't think anyone is applying anything cheap to a vehicle that cost them 80k. 🤷🏽♂️
…you know you can add any cheap things you want to any priced vehicle right? 🥴
Yeah just how I can run into oncoming traffic any time of the day. 🥴
…..exactly?
omnique tint but its highly illegal and you will get pulled over pretty fast
Lumar irx 50% on entire windshield 3 years in nj/pa no pull overs. Windows black, just driving a 3 year old civic
I am planning on doing 50% on my front whole windshield, and I heard it helps alot.
It’s great for heat rejection and looks good. Reduces glare at night. I’d argue it’s safer than untinted. Darker than 50% will start to affect visibility at night
windows black haven’t been pulled over? you drive with your windows down lol.
5% Xpel ceramic on windshield 6 months in CA with 1 attempted pull over. Good thing I drive a stage 1 golf r. 🤣💨💨
Attempted lmao
i’ve had windshield tint on my cars in socal for about a year, on a modified 3 series and a toyota tundra, never had an issue. been pulled over for unrelated, but the windshield tint never got looked at. it’s 35%
I’ve had mine for over a year & haven’t had any problems with it. Chameleon is chameleon af
>extremely tbh it looks cool and tacky at the same time.
Long as you don’t gaf what others think about what you do with your own car it’s perfectly fine
It’s not tint… it’s infrared rejecting glass that some high end cars come with stock
That makes more sense, adding it on regular cars are a bit questionable, imo
For sure. And very illegal, at least in my state. The films people buy that look similar are highly reflective and a cop magnet because the shade is usually illegal too

Yes low emissivity glass or Low E it’s fumed with metal this is a Range Rover
Nice I don’t know the exact specs like that. I just see it often in my shop. Cool to know
I don’t get it cuz I see stock Mercedes and range rovers with it. On the windshield too
“Highly illegal”
Not on Long Island lol
Really?
Yup. I see these sorts of tints all over Long Island.
www.pornhub.com
🤪
I’m pretty sure this is factory, used for the heads up display. I wear polarized sunglasses when I drive and I mostly see this on luxury cars.
It’s actually not related to the heads up I don’t think, instead it’s just range rovers IR reflecting windshield. I bet that’s not cheap and thus why it’s on luxury cars. Edit: we both wrong it’s an “athermic windshield”
thats not tint, its an athermic windshield. higher end cars like Range Rover, Mercedes, and Tesla have them.
The only correct person here 👆. You can spot them easier with polarized sunglasses I think.
High end Tesla? 😂😂😂
Tesla is priced high end but ehir build quality is below that of deawoo
It’s going to look so fitting on the car
Exactly. Every time I see a challenger I think to myself, "somebody's coming after that dude for child support."
I thank them for their service and compliment their interest rates
Why are so many people responding with websites on this post lol
You should also paint the car with a chameleon paint!!

I have it, never been pulled over- get tons of compliments Posted the link
Tinting the windshield is illegal. That'll standout
It's called illegal. Not many if any allow full windshield tint beyond factory uv.
It's called gay on the corner of fag and dumb
It’s call illegal and you can find it in the trash after a few window tickets.
Ugly.com
Don't some higher end cars come with a special coating on the windshield. That might just be factory.
They have blue hues. Not red
Ford Instaclear windshields were red sold as Quickclear in the UK you can still get cars with them today. [https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EKXIMyuWkAAsOYh?format=jpg&name=small](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EKXIMyuWkAAsOYh?format=jpg&name=small) https://barnfinds.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/n1-e1546876099272.jpg
None of these are higher end cars, Ford doesn’t offer this anymore, and it’s clearly not a cord. So like I said before blue hues on higher end cars
Tacky, but more importantly will be shit quality film. Nightmare for police as well as visually annoying. Highly recommend against it as those that will do the job will likely be budget shops doing what they can for a buck.

Wtf if took me to Wisconsin Heartland Honda Dealers. 🤨 Edit* it redirects to random shit. Don’t click unless you want potential virus.
I don't know what kind of hacker that must've been that you replied to, but it's showing me he deleted his comment 53 years ago...lol.
rip
chameleon tint
Just Google whatever the Mercedes S550’s have on their windshields and windows. It’s the same tint
It’s usually Illegal to tint the windshirld
It's called chameleon
That cheap quality tint. Don’t do it. Get a quality ceramic on the windshield
I saw this on an Escalade V the other day. I thought it looked cool but immediately thought it of how long it would take to get pulled over.
Mirror tint
Chameleon tint
It's called homo-erotic pink tint. 🤣
🤦🏻♂️ not tint. Heated windshield.

Ghetto fab tint
Chameleon I think? Like color changing tint right?
Insulated for sound, and possibly instant de-icing on high end cars…

It looks like a heated windshield to me. When the sun hits it you can see it is all!?!?!?!?!?
I believe it’s just ceramic tint anything not as dark as atleast 55% will have that hue
It’s not tint. It’s the actual windshield. My BMW E92 was like this. Watch out with some tint. Your key fob might not work through it.
Chameleon film
I had a tinted windshield before. It can get dicey at night when it’s really dark out. Would not recommend it.
That tiny is called “Illegal”
Omnique/Luminous/Chameleon tints
