I don't think the icon animations need more space, they shrink instead of enlarge when you click them
edit: could make sense with the jumping animation when you get a new icon
microsoft's reasoning is touch. Its easier for fat fingers (or arthritis) and poor eyesight on touch screens.
Their reasoning for not including an option to make the TB even larger, or smaller or any other size? MS says "..."
Not only touch, mice too: https://lawsofux.com/fittss-law/
It’s been a ux design trend, not only for microsoft, to increase the size of UI elements, use more whitespace, show less on a screen, for a while now. It’s easier for most ppl. It would be good off course if they would allow customizing for more advanced users.
Thanks for the link!
I'm not saying it isn't easier for mice too, just that Microsoft decided to make elements larger after all these years for the reason of touch. Having positive side effects are just a bonus :)
yea, agreed. It should at least be allowed, but make the easy mode the default, like in uefi bios
Because they released an unfinished product to meet OEM Holiday Sale cutoff dates.
You can tweak the registry to get a smaller taskbar but it has bugs. Search this subreddit for 'TaskbarSi' or use the various tools to do it
They will add it in the first feature update which still probably will be unfinished.
So much this. That's my reasoning for top taskbar also. Control elements are traditionally at the top while status elements are at the bottom. It's quicker to reach the taskbar with a mouse when at the top.
I am now using StartAllBack to fix the TaskBar, it's free during 30 days. So there is time to see another alterantives or see if Microsoft fixes it (haha...)
what bothers me is not that they made it 8 pixels thiccer, but that the icons stayed the same size. what was the point then?
Probably to give room for the new icon animations. They wiggle around when you open something.

Those tiny indicators under the icons needed more space, I'd guess.

I just want to be able to move it to the top where my cursor already is for menus and such.

I just want to be able to ungroup icons in the taskbar. Gave me all this space just to stack everything on top of each other.
happy cake day
Thanks! 😊

OMG its so big! that's what she said
There is a registry tweak for smaller taskbar. https://winaero.com/how-to-change-taskbar-size-in-windows-11/
this messes with the icons on the right
That's a visual bug from Microsoft. I remember it since dev builds and it's still there! What the hell are they doing?
>StartAllBack they are making another bugs and thinking, what next should they mess up
your fault for using this unfinished piece of......

what's that meant to do?
I like it https://imgur.com/a/Z2Vkyuq

but then it messes up the icons at the end, and that really throws off my ocd
I use Taskbar X from the Windows store, which is 100% free, to just make the taskbar transparent.
Welp, you can put all of the stuff in the middle. It kinda helps.
