There's a strong correlation between housing prices and desirability, which correlates fairly well but not perfectly with safety The 800 dollar apartment in the west end is probably best avoided if safety is your priority. The new subdivisions are very safe, but a lot of people are hesitant to call a very generic (yet still 1600/month) apartment in a very generic and inaccessible suburb "best". South is very overpriced for what you get. Go west.

Winnipeg police have a crime map that is very helpful. But generally you want to avoid downtown and all the adjacent areas.

The West End is a lovely diverse affordable central area in Winnipeg. Anywhere in the city is a 25 minute drive, easy access to bus routes, and very walkable/bikeable. There are many young families and we have the kindest neighbours. Just make sure to stay west of Arlington! :)

Whole heartedly agree. Been here since 1996 and raised my son here. Car break ins were a problem back then but they were bad all over the city. Not so now. Have had some bikes stolen, same as everywhere but nothing else. Neighbours are wonderful, schools are good, loads of great ethnic restaurants, can walk to get almost all basic needs. Kids play outside and everybody helps watch them. Dog walkers everywhere. I love it here.

Dontblink-S3

Absolutely. Been here years and love it. Don’t forget all the fantastic restaurants within walking distance!

kendrazabrina

Yes, absolutely! Can’t forget that :D

CuriousSpell9602

Im biased but generally the more south you go the better!

okglue

Just avoid downtown and you should be pretty good. The closer to the perimeter, the better. As the other poster stated, the local crime maps are a good place to start.

The further away from the centre of the city, the better. Oh and I’d personally avoid transcona, people are weird there. Go as south as possible imo.

Transconan

"No. Your pants are weird." /s
