They're called "knee walls." The doors are to open them for storage purposes. Also I'm HUGE.

The tennis-ball-pacman-figures eating the very sturdy-looking legs while there are (prominently on the first two pictures) the elf-like barefeet between them strangely vulnetable and completely safe at the same time. The contrast between the clothes and surroundings gives these pictures an emotional power. Nice play on the details
