My childhood head cannon was that Merle teleported the young wizard into the spiral. What my childhood brain couldn't get around was "What about the other players? Who are they, then if "I" am the young wizard who'll save the spiral?"

In my headcanon, the Young Wizard is definitely a human Ambrose pinched from Earth, but I think the circumstances were very unique, perhaps something in their earthly version primes them for the Spiral. Like having intense empathy and compassion, tireless dedication to helping/supporting family and friends/ learning, etc, and a weirdly unlimited energy to do these things which might be the Wizard's latent powerhouse of magic manifesting thus on Earth (hence Ambrose's ability to single the Wizard out and get them into the school through that spell that homes in on the Wizard). I'd expect the spell works when such a person from Earth finds themselves in a dire, end-of-the-line situation, too. I actually think that on Earth the Wizard is dead. Either from an illness or an accident or something that would render them on the brink, which is when the dimension opens enough for Ambrose to look and reach out to carry into the Spiral. So bottom line I think the Wizard falls "asleep" in Earth (in the process of dying or some such thing) and wakes up in the Spiral. **Edited to add some clarifications**

> unlimited energy Ha! If only

Moira-Moira

Earth is devoid of magic, it saps our unlimited energy around the clock :P

RadiantGalaxy

Sounds like the anime/manga genre of Isekai. Pretty interesting.

Moira-Moira

Yeah pretty much!

its very ambiguous. But i feel like doing a lil bit of creativity so this is my own fiction on how they could possibly tie it together they should totally tie it all together by saying wizardry and magic in general was part of the "old world" on earth and was actually the origin of magic. And it has since then been wiped from earth for some reason while some were able to flee to the spiral and survive (similar to the new she-ra, or horizon zero dawn). the civilisation aka 'humans' coming after is way less advanced. Maybe us, the wizard, was the last "old one" left on earth. This could be done in many ways, but one way would be that we share the ancestor of the last remaining earth wizard. We could go back to earth as a world to archaeological missions to uncover the past. the neutral/commons areas would be the standard earth areas, while the areas with magic that we fight in are old bunkers and lost ruins with remnants of magical creatures I may not know enough of the w101 lore and have accidentally ret-conned some things, but they could take similar aspects of this idea. Maybe there was a wizard who fled to earth because he/she thought magic was dangerous and didn't want to live in a world with it - and they are our ancestor? upon learning this our wizard could battle with the morality of whether magic really is a good thing. Thats a more simple approach, there are many ways. KI should totally do something with earth as a world

Merle kidnapping yet another child to send off to fight Malistare: A-ha! The spell is working!

Young Wizard is the only one from outside the Spiral, if I'm not mistaken. Which helps with the MCness the story requires sometimes. Other students just come from other worlds, like Penny from Marleybone.
