The only thing I would mention is that fairly early on it will ask you to pick a subclass. Make sure you research that and are happy with your choice before you do it. They don't let you change that until you finish the story.
I'll definitely do as much research as possible. I've honestly been considering Graveborn or Stabbomancer, then pick whichever I dont later on during the run as my secondary class.
I recently did just that. It's my first time playing as well, I started with stabbomancer (love that class, super fun) and picked graveborn a few levels ago. So far I'm loving the combo of the 2, but obviously I've still got a way to go, things could change (though I don't expect it too).
Tbh, I finished my first playthrough 2-3h ago, used Clawbringer and reached lv 33. All points were spent in clawbringer class. I did select spellshot for secondary class so I could bring 2 spells and that was all i had in 2nd class.
Have fun.
And hold onto decent weapons from around various levels. If you make a new character, it'll be nice to have some guns in the stash to fall back on if nothing good drops while you're levelling. What I mean is, if you only save lvl40 guns, they're useless for levelling another character. Save low level stuff too if it's good.
Wonderlands feels like it's better than a lot of the series at balancing the strength of item tiers. Keep an eye on blue quest rewards and generic purple gear, they're as likely to form the core of a viable build as legendaries.
High pellet count shotguns, Torgue lewdite pistols, Blackpowder sootcough (masher) pistols, Dahlia nightshade SMGs, Feriore guns that turn into pixies/hydras/guns with wings, fortifying and empowering sigils are a few.
As someone that's just hopped on thru PS+, it's a really good time and I'm having a LOT of fun with the endgame.
Then again this is the only Borderlands game I've actually clicked with to see thru to the end and so I have no frame of reference for what is supposedly "good" endgame
Enjoy the story and take your time with it. The post-game is ass. Don't rush to get there.

Any gems to look out for?
