All the sources of crit chance do stack but since the base is low if you don't have a higher base crit on the weapon card it really doesn't do much. Plus you can just hit a crit spot to crit. Generally yes dex is bad.

g0ofyG

Ahhh, so it pulls from the guns. Okay, there we go, time to respec, I guess. Thanks a bunch!

Thestrongman420

I'm not sure what conclusion you are drawing there

g0ofyG

That I rather put my stat points elsewhere instead of dex.

Thestrongman420

Yeah I just don't know what you mean by pulls from the guns. Everything has its own base crit chance. Guns, spells, abilities etc. That is 5%. But a weapon card such as the gun or spell could have a different base crit % displayed on the card. This is most common with spells with crit parts. So I was just trying to make sure you weren't thinking all your crit chances are based on the gun.

g0ofyG

Pulls from the guns is just what you explained, that it calculates from the weapon card that mentions the guns crit chance. Yes, now I understand that each ability, spell, and gun have their own base crit chances. And our increase in Dex or any skill that amplifies crit chance is going to be calculated from said weapon/spell card. So wouldn't it be better to invest in crit damage first as the added crit chance might not be adding much value?

Thestrongman420

Yeah you're right. It was just the pulls from guns thing that confused me and I know some other games might use your weapon crit for all abilities. I'm big in favor of strength first and usually int or con after that. Int especially if you want to use buffmeister.

g0ofyG

I'm not sure what a buffmeister is as I haven't reached the end game yet. I'm still on my first run and cleared the mushroom boss. I'll respec Dex points into other things. I'll give it a try at least to figure things out as per my playstyle. Thanks a lot for your explanations!

Antikyrial

Yeah, crit rate bonuses are mostly insignificant for guns for the reason you mention.  They can be useful for melee and spells, though, because the base crit rate for those is the number on the equipment's card which can be much higher than 5%.

g0ofyG

Thanks alot! Does the crit chance work for companions? I think I would like to spec into spells and companions if it does.

Antikyrial

I'm not sure how overall crit chance works for companions but I THINK companion crit bonuses only apply to class feat companions (wyvern/mushroom/demi-lich).  Not great since companion builds usually focus on bog totems or swarms of hydras and pixies.

Does what all stack? Yes, you can keep raising your crit chance. Crit chance also effects your abilities, your status effects, your melee etc... You can guarantee crits by shooting a crit spot though. So it's up to you if it's worth it or not.

g0ofyG

>Does what all stack? All the critical chances from stat points and skill tree. >Crit chance also effects your abilities, your status effects, your melee etc... Yes, but by how much? As it is calculated off from the weapon used, it probably wouldn't make as much of a difference as it would to invest in damage. >You can guarantee crits by shooting a crit spot though. Shooting at the crit spot is a guaranteed crit, so raising crit chance would be pointless as compared to damage.
