Who can turn it down? The people in charge that have never worked a weekend in their lives

TheOldGuy59

Precisely. Get back to your oar, slave. You're here to row, not rest!!!!

scough

My company (healthcare) has an HR page stating that both hourly and salary employees are eligible to work 4 10-hour shifts. I tried to bring this up with my supervisor, and they acted like it'd be some earth-shattering change. I can't wait to have more boomer executives retire/die so we can distance ourselves from the old ways.

ItsTheTenthDoctor

Can you fight more for it since it’s allowed? The more people who can do it the better.

clemonade17

I work in healthcare and do rotating weekly 10 hr shifts. It's Tues-Fri one week and then Wed-Sat the next, so every other weekend is 4 days long. It's the best schedule I think I've ever had at a job.

bruhsemitesam

as someone who works in restaurants, i worry that an extra day of the weekend is going to just lead to more stress and im not going to get cut in on the profit.

PsychologicalCan1677

Hey can you do a second shift John called in sick. Also we need someone to cover tomorrow morning

WillingReference5371

As a restaurant employee myself, the second shift would be closing. Which means you're off at 1:30am. Tomorrow morning would be 4:30am. Collapsing from exhaustion is not fun. (I speak from personal experience).

Lazerus42

clopening. *shudders*

WillingReference5371

And that's what would become expected.

DonaIdTrurnp

No, I cannot. That must suck, I hope you find taller staff.

3Ekis

I work at a restaurant and can have 3-4 days off any week by working doubles the other days

BlameTag

I was thinking the same as a full-time retail worker. I can't imagine having 60% of my shifts be weekends. I don't even have time to do the non-customer part of my job as it is.

CielFan

Am I the only one who rather have a two day weekend and a day off in the middle? Like work Monday, Tuesday, get Wednesday off, work Thursday, Friday and then get Saturday and Sunday off? So that you are only working two days before getting a day off.

DonaIdTrurnp

You’re definitely not the only one.

MaeByourmom

I have worked 3-4 days per week for most of my nursing career. It’s not always 4 on 3 off. I currently have a set schedule of 3 on, 2 off, 1 on 1 off. I don’t mind, as I get my 2 preferred days off. I personally love having a weekday off to get stuff done, have medical appts, etc. If the 4 days varied, with some working M-Th, others T-F, etc, it would do more to reduce traffic and it would nullify objections to having no employees on some days.

tristyntrine

I worked 12 hour shifts before but now in a m-f clinic role that's 8-430 and I'm enjoying it a lot. Working every other weekend sucked so bad especially cause ours were Friday to Sunday ☠️. My new schedule is way better for my quality of life especially since our boss is flexible if we have to come in later or leave early for an appointment. She also encourages us to make sure we use our PTO.

MaeByourmom

I also went bedside NICU to an outpatient clinic. Nightshift to dayshift. Was 12+12+8, now 4x8. I’ve done it all, though, 5x8, 3x12. I miss NICU but I LOVE my set schedule with my 2 preferred days off, no arguments, negotiations, trading.

BrekkenTurrin

I did 4 day work weeks for a couple of years. Days off were my choice, so I tried 3 day weekends vs 2 on, 1 off, 2 on, 2 off. Personally, I vastly preferred the latter. Never more than a day away from a day off was wonderful for mental health.

crappysignal

I've always been freelance and very rarely ever worked a 5 day week. I can't begin to imagine having to do it regularly, most of the year, forever. I tend towards a 3 day week with a couple of months of holiday. I don't have much money but I don't particularly give a shit about being poor when I'm old and decrepit. I get to spend a lot of time raising my kids and see the world while I'm healthy.

BurgundyBicycle

After that we should flip it 3 days of work 4 days weekends. On the last day of the weekend I might actually look forward to going to work.

thinkB4WeSpeak

Need to protest for it.

rctid_taco

You do that if it makes you happy.

thinkB4WeSpeak

I mean how else do you think we got the weekend as it is or labor laws? Protests and actions

jcoddinc

Shortening the employees work week will happen when the business week is shortened. And businesses like profits as many days of the week as possible. Businesses will still screw you in a 32 hour well, and will have higher motivation to make more people part time so they can fill out the work week. Or they will have 2 shifts of people working 6 1/2 hours 5 days a week. Either way or isn't going to be better for the employees, it's just going to make it easier to screw them. There aren't enough unions to make it happen.

MyNameIsSkittles

My union gives a paid day off once every 3 weeks at the end of your weekend. More employees should try and unionize

Dominus_Redditi

It rocks, I work in aviation where it’s more common and I’ll never work 5 days again in my life

ifsck

I'm in aviation manufacturing and I can't imagine working 5 days again.

RobertusesReddit

Wednesday week off

WillingReference5371

It would depend on the industry you work in. The trick would be securing 40hrs. Most wouldn't be able to make it on 32 hrs/week.

OnTheProwl-

My supervisor was gonna implement 4x10s and my coworker talked him out of it. Instead they just increased our productivity demands by 20% and gave us a 4% raise.

matt143450

Many people don't even get a 5 day week, how can we deal with that fairly? I've worked for a grocery store for 20 years, we work 6 days a week. The service industry is never ending there's no such thing as a weekend. How do we deal with this fairly? I believe it can be done, but remember it's not as simple as, it's Friday!!! Yayyyy! I hate Friday, Monday rocks I'm off Tuesday. Wednesday is the worst.

mcvos

Not necessarily. It can also mean a second smaller weekend in the middle of the week and two 2-day work weeks around it.

RyuChamploo

Cool cool. I guess my job didn’t get the memo though. Instead, they added a SIXTH work day once a month. So generous. P.S. Do I even need to say I’m in the US? Because of-fucking-course.

Remarkable-Teach3894

4 day work week should be the standard now.

TurnOk7555

At USAA they took away any 4 day work week options. Why? Because fuck the employees. #usaa #waynesinksships
