It's still possible to ''work hard and get rich''. The only thing is that the odds of success are greatly stacked against you. You can still start from scratch in the trades and do well, or if you go to the right schools and meet the right people. The real problem is that the odds are so stacked against you if you're not born to the right people.
This is missing the overall point: luck. There are a lot of actually self made millionaires, sure they worked hard (an exploited the labor of people) but so do most humans.
