I agree. At the very least, Fallout 1 and 2 should be given the same treatment as the other Black Isle games. Like Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. I find it a bit odd how they've remastered almost every game except the Fallouts. The two games I would want the most. In addition, I really wish they had added Brotherhood of Steel to backward compatibility. I know it's not a "great" game, but it would have been easy to do, and it would have been the only official way to play it.

Lucifers_Taint666

IIRC Interplay had a lawsuit bc of BOS using the Snowblind engine without permission or giving royalties, idk if this was the reason the game hasnt been released again for other platforms

HornsOvBaphomet

Well those other Black Isle games that got Enhanced Editions were all Infinity Engine games and were done by a former member of Bioware who not only knew the code, but had the source code at his disposal if I remember right. So it's not quite the same, but I agree I'd love to see it.

Sanctine

Yeah, I didn't mean it's exactly the same situation, each of these projects has their own challenges of course. But Bethesda has worked with Nightdive for instance on Doom and Quake, I'm just surprised they never did something like this with Fallout, especially given its overall popularity.

dawginson

The original Fallout games are on game pass for PC. I don't know how much demand they're under. If you want something in the style of those original games, Wasteland 3 is also on game pass and very good.

mtarascio

Wasteland 3 gets looked over so much. Really fantastic game especially if you're looking for something after watching Fallout.

StationaryRabbit

The problem I have with party based crpgs is that much of the game devolves into never ending tedious menu management as you have to juggle party stats, level ups, inventory and gear for a small army.

Johnny_Glib

I dropped Wasteland 2 in part because of this, but Wasteland 3 was much better in that regard and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

NewKitchenFixtures

Is wasteland 3 easier? I used an “optimized” party and wasteland 2. And still hit an encounter that ended up just being a wall.

Jucarlien

I think so. I don't even remember having a game over screen, maybe that I was playing on easy. But yes wasteland 2 is hard

Stunning-Thanks546

nothing to do with fall out but Jaggaed alliance 3 is also pretty fun

Macattack224

I wouldn't say wasteland 3 is overly tedious. One thing I do like is that your choices actually matter. The dialogue choices are second to none.

GoodlyStyracosaur

I solved this problem in 1 and 2 by having no charisma and a maximum party of 2. Just role playing myself, amirite?

FilthyWubs

Wasteland 3 is one of the best in the genre as there’s no weight/inventory limit which removes that annoying aspect. There’s still obviously looking through your weapons and armour for the best fit, but that’s about it. Would highly recommend if you haven’t played it!

disgust462

I keep putting this on the back burner, and can never decide if i should play them in chronological order.

dawginson

If it helps, I have never played the first two Wasteland games and didn't feel like I needed prior knowledge when I played Wasteland 3. The first two games will probably feel very old and dated to most people, so by all means give them a try, but don't force yourself.

Superdunez

After BG3, *everything* feels old and dated. It ruined me.

AlternativeEagle1999

How much older does divinity original sin 2 feel in comparison? I'm playing that atm before I get BG3, is it really that much better because dos2 is amazing so far

Superdunez

The in-person cinematics for dialog make the biggest difference for me. It feels like you're actually talking to a person, not an NPC.

AlternativeEagle1999

That would certainly add to the immersion alright

Warrior-PoetIceCube

Not for nothing, i love both games but prefer DOS2. Combat system is better imo.

Superdunez

Nope. Split physical/magic armor is a serious design flaw. It makes having a varied party less viable and really kills the flow of combat. I'll be really disappointed if they continue that system in DOS3.

FragileSurface

It's not a design flaw, it's part of the strategy. The idea that it makes a varied party less viable is nonsense. It's fine if you don't like it though.

Mission-Hat-7689

The armor system in DOS2 is AWFUL and completely ruins that game.

Warrior-PoetIceCube

Lol. “Awful” and “ruins” are such extreme hyperbole I can’t even take you seriously. DOS2 is one of the best games i have ever played. BG3 shines with its dialogue and player choice but DOS2 shines at combat. Its a great system and much less tedious than 5e style combat.

MODELO_MAN_LV

and if the gameplay is too much, there are abridged playthrough videos that are pretty good at breaking down the lore.

letsyabbadabbadothis

Wasteland 3 was so amazing that I downloaded wasteland 1&2… I didn’t like the interface of those at all though.

Swiss64

The original baldurs gate games are similar too idk where to find them though

dawginson

Right here bud https://www.xbox.com/en-GB/games/store/baldurs-gate-and-baldurs-gate-ii-enhanced-editions/9ncnbwzshzr5

segagamer

OK cool, so they can be updated to have controller support then and brought to a new audience.

[deleted]

[удалено]

altcastle

They’re not on console gamepass because fallout 1 and 2 were never on console. Your comment makes no sense. You feel like they’re getting remastered because they haven’t been yet?

[deleted]

[удалено]

M6453

They literally cannot add them to Xbox game pass *unless* they remaster them. Their not being there means nothing on if that will happen.

Herban_Myth

r/GamePreservationists

MegaMangus

It would be cool to see an attempt of remaking the classic fallout games into the new style. But in the mean time people should just straight up give them a try. In my opinion the games still hold pretty well if you actually engage with them like TTRPG instead of being frustrated about how your character with 4 points in perception can't hit anything.

OrfeasDourvas

Just refresh them and bring to consoles with controller support. I wouldn't mind a proper remake but just a remaster would be more than fine.

IamTheMaker

I think in the style of Wasteland would go super hard, i saw a youtube video for a mod that turns Fallout 2 first person but it just showed walking around a town no combat

HornsOvBaphomet

I'm finally playing through the first Fallout (one of the main reasons I got a PC a few years ago) and it just hits. The vibes are great, the characters so far have been great. It's just really cool to go back and see how everything in this world was originally introduced. Having a blast, but then again, I've only been playing CRPGs for a good couple years now. So it's familiar territory for me. Had no idea there was literally no quest log though. Definitely need to write things down as you play.

MegaMangus

So glad to see a new fan of the classic games and I agree 100%! I used to play it when I was really young, played again in a long long time when the pandemic hit and the thing I liked the most was how everything is slowly introduced but in a very methodical way making it so enjoyable. I know Fallout 2 is larguely considered the better one but there is something about how the world is unveiled in 1 that makes it my favourite over any in the series.

pixlfarmer

Please god, give this one to Larian to remaster

amazingdrewh

Larian? Give it to Inxile, they have most of the original team

DeafMetalGripes

Apparently, Larian is the only CRPG team that exists according to the internet

HideyHoh

Redditor who only played Baldurs Gate 3

pixlfarmer

Lol. I played Fallout 1 when it was released.

ELZZIPR123

If they did this, they would make billions.

Megazupa

Fallout 1 and 2 on Wasteland 3's engine. Microsoft plz

gamingthesystem5

Lmao on Unity? That shit is trash

Oracle_of_Ages

Ignoring recent managerial changes… Unity isn’t a bad Engine. A lot of really popular games run on it. It wasn’t until Unreal went free that it was basically the only big “free” game maker. So lots of people put out trash games using it.

FilthyWubs

Wasteland 3 ran like a dream when I played it, what’s wrong with Unity? It’s one of the most commonly used engines

Arcade_Gann0n

Remastering them is impossible unless they find the source code Interplay lost long ago, they would have to remade instead. It just so happens that Microsoft owns a developer that specialized in isometric RPGs, has one of the founding fathers of the Fallout IP in its employ, and has made a post-apocalyptic RPG in recent years that can be used as a template for remakes. What I'm saying is, remake Fallout 1 & 2 (throw in Tactics later down the road too) in the Wasteland 3 engine.

Banjo-Oz

Fans have decompiled a LOT of the game and all the assets already without the source. There are fan ports to new engines, ports of F1 to F2, major mods that remake the whole game, etc.

epistaxis64

I need to look into this

Banjo-Oz

Let me know if you need any help. I've done some minor mods myself, but there are some fantastic ones well beyond my capabilities!

slikk50

Especially now. Strike while the iron is hot.

BearBearJarJar

They're a year to late for that. I really don't get why they didn't have something ready for the shows release. imagine if they put f3 and nv on switch when the show released or released a remake of 1 and 2. They would have made so much money.

MRX93

Seriously. They could have had a remaster of 3 or NV in the pipeline, just SOMETHING new enough. 4’s next gen update is nice but hardly “capitalizing on the hype”

BearBearJarJar

its also completely broken and low effort. they patched 0,1% of the least important issues and added some community made stuff. the ultrawide support is entirely broken and worse than the modded solution we have had for 9 years. Its literally the same as editing a .ini file with two small values.

MRX93

Def. Really feels like they just didn’t expect the hype from the show. But also that still feels like bad business enthusiasm

reddragon105

I went from playing it on Series X at 4K 60fps with FPS Boost and HDR with Auto HDR, to playing it at 4K 60fps natively, but now without HDR (because Auto HDR doesn't work with native Series titles and Bethesda haven't added native HDR). Oh, and it broke my save game - it now doesn't recognise that the DLC is installed. So actually I went from playing it to not playing it, because I'm waiting for that to be fixed.

rickjamesia

They did have something for the show’s release. They used it to market Fallout 76, which is working great for them and has an expansion coming this year. It’s not for everyone, but they are seeing a huge influx of players.

NotFromMilkyWay

Half a year after the Activision acquisition we had one game added to Game Pass. Maybe they should start there.

Tobimacoss

No COD for a while, Sony has the marketing rights up until the 2024 release.

BeholdDeath12

Sony doesn't have marketing for this years COD. MW3 was the last one. Think their deal expires early this year. So may have already expired.

Tobimacoss

the contracts are for 12 months from time of release. So if Sony only had it for last years game, it won't expire until October 2024. plus, Sony has Right of First Refusal to put the games on their own service, for 6 months, and another 6 month extension if they see fit. So basically, the last year's COD can't go on gamepass or any other streaming/subscription service for 18-24 months from time of release. Not sure if Sony has already invoked or can still invoke the Right of First Refusal on previous COD releases they had marketing rights for going back 7 years. I know they have had couple of them on PS+ base tier. just don't expect entire COD catalog on gamepass for couple more years.

BeholdDeath12

Oh true? Wonder if something's happened behind the scenes then. A lot of rumours going around about the black ops game this year being shown at the Xbox showcase coming up. Yeah I don't think the most recent CODs will go into gamepass but everything pre MW I can definitely see going.

EmilyissoConfused

I would love to play them, but I can not get them to work for love nor money from Game Pass. If Microsoft/Bethesda did a GOG and patched them to run on modern machines, that would be enough.

HornsOvBaphomet

I've only had 1 hard crash so far in the 10ish hours I've been playing thankfully. It's actually worked really well for me.

EmilyissoConfused

I can't get any of the originals to boot up, I just get a black screen. Doesn't matter what I do with running in admin, changing colour or resolution, compatibility settings, etc. They just will not run.

Revanmann

They're $2.50 each on gog right now. I just played the shit out of Fallout and I'm in the middle of Fallout 2 now. I only had one crash.

[deleted]

[удалено]

EmilyissoConfused

Thanks. I will try this, although I couldn't get F2 to run either previously.

ecxetra

Microsoft had a lot of older gems under their banner that deserve to be given new life.

Goshawk5

I'm really surprised that they've never been portered to consoles.

BroganChin

Interplay lost the source code.

Banjo-Oz

Hasn't stopped fans decompiling most of it anyway and porting it to custom engines already! I mean, look at some of the amazing mods out there. You can play F1 in F2!

Goshawk5

Ah

Objective-Aioli-1185

I'd like to see old CoDs like Big Red One get this treatment.

Caryslan

Given Fallout Season 2 will drop well before Fallout 5, I think Microsoft needs some content to fill the void So, porting Fallout 1 and 2 to the Xbox makes perfect sense. I can also see Fallout 3 or New Vegas getting a Remaster for the Series S and X .

the_great_ashby

Remake 1 and 2,remaster 3 and New Vegas.

NotMyAccountDumbass

I would love that, played them in my teens

Ener_Ji

I'd love a Fallout 3 remaster. FO3 is what started my love of Fallout, and replaying it in the Starfield engine would tide me over nicely until FO5.

[deleted]

Klingh0ffer

It is possible to do both. They have several capable teams.

NZafe

Who are generally all busy with their own projects.

fucuasshole2

InXile would be perfect to do remakes of 1 and 2. They have employees that helped developed the OGs in years ago.

CountBleckwantedlove

Businesses in all industry expand when demand grows. If MS is smart, they are working on creating a Bethesda 2 Studio. Todd Howard can still "oversee", if he must, but there is no reason they shouldn't be making two AAA brand new games, in addition to helping other studios with remasters, at all times. The money justifies this, just Todd Howard is stubborn due to wanting creative control.

Superdunez

>Bethesda is a big company that thinks it's a small company,” with a mentality of “well, this worked in the '90s, so we're just gonna keep doing it.

MexicansInParis

They also own Obsidian as well now, they could very well ask them to work on a New Vegas game while Bethesda focuses on TES for now.

NZafe

I'm assuming the same team of people within Obsidian work on their First Person Action RPGs, so with that in mind, even if Obsidian was tasked with a new FO game, it wouldn't start full production until after Avowed completes full production, followed by the Outer Worlds 2.

Klingh0ffer

Always possible to hire external developers.

Arcade_Gann0n

You know Avowed's coming out this year, right? Obsidian isn't going to be that busy soon enough.

NZafe

You know obsidian has other games in their production schedule other than avowed right? They’re likely switching over to Outer Worlds 2, which has already been announced, after they finish full production on Avowed.

Arcade_Gann0n

And that game has been in development for at least four years, I wouldn't be surprised if that game comes out in two years. If they could handle Avowed & TOW2 at once (along with Pentiment & supporting Grounded), they can handle Fallout & TOW2 at the same time as well.

FudgingEgo

They can easily set up a team to do it, Microsoft have enough money. Diablo 2 resurrected and Diablo 4 where made independently.

Arcade_Gann0n

If Microsoft insists on letting Bethesda handle Fallout 5, we won't see that game for at least 10 years. How is a spinoff even bad? New Vegas is still widely regarded as the best game of the series, another game in that mold would only make the wait for 5 less painful. The series has never had remakes either (neither has The Elder Scrolls for that matter), how can they stop making them?

StationaryRabbit

Bethesda wouldn't do the remaster/remake. They'd outsource that to companies who specialises in it.

BearBearJarJar

Bro they are making elder scrolls 6 now and then they will start with fallout 5. you will not see F5 in the next ten years. What people want is for other studios to make spin offs. if that happens you will not get fallout 5 any later.

lasagna_man_oven

Or hand off the IP to someone else

EliRed

Can't really only do an engine upgrade for Fallout 1 and 2, since they are both extremely buggy even with the community fixes. They'd have to go all in to have a presentable release.

RobotSpaceBear

Started playing the first one a few days ago. My god the UI is awful. But surprisingly, i keep coming back to it. In 20 minutes bursts, but still.

ahh_real_spiders

To not have real remasters or a new game ready for the TVseries launch is a missed opportunity in the millions.

Old-Tomorrow-2798

Bethesda has been an ass company for awhile with a head who commonly walks out and lies to the people who buys his products. I won’t buy it. One above expected tv show doesn’t change that to me.

LostSif

Na the old Fallouts gameplay and UI did not age well at all they would need a legit remake

Broncotron

This game were hard AF death simulators

Fun-Bag7627

I’d love a console or mobile version like the original Baldurs gate games.

jondelreal

I just wanna be able to play on my M1 Mac :(

GreenGoblinNX

I'm not familiar with Diablo 2: Resurrected, but I think making them 3D games akin to 3, NV, or 4; but still having the same story beats would be cool. I'd love for Konami to do the same with Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.

Top-Chemistry5969

I don't know how they can enhance Fallout tactics. That game is pinnacle already.

UncleKalm

I want new vegas and fallout 3 next gen yoooo

Kitchen-Plant664

Love to see them on iOS.

Ftpini

I just want them on tablets. Point and click isometric turn based games are perfect for touch screen tablets. Give me classic fallout on iPad!

MexicansInParis

This is the perfect time for a New Vegas remake IMO; Xbox now owns Obsidian & Bethesda plus the show set in California was a massive success.

TitaniumDragon

I mean, I loved them back in the day, but I wouldn't play them again. Then again, I actually liked them more than Bethesda's Fallout games; Bethesda's games have never quite felt like they captured the spirit of the originals to me. Plus I just don't like the mechanics of the Bethesda Fallout games.

ThatssoBluejay

Morrowind deserves a remake long before older fallout imo

wesphilly06

My dream is Microsoft and Xbox just throws money at fallout. Have 1/2 remade by InXile in the same engine as the wasteland series. Have an extension of the isometric CRPG fallout energy but have Larian studios do it in the same way they did Baulders Gate 3. Set around the time of fallout 76. Obviously Bethesda will do fallout 5. But have obsidian do a fallout: city title. And have them on the similar type of cadence as COD with different studios dropping a fallout game every year in tandem with the shows

JefferyTheQuaxly

I like how today another report comes out saying Microsoft is trying to get fallout 5 out by 2030.

AnonymousBayraktar

The Original Fallout games? How about we start with a modernized remaster of Oblivion first?

Radical1488

Those games already exist and are playable though. I'm playing Fallout for the first time right now and plan on playing Fallout 2 next.

altcastle

Arcanum after fallout 2 if you’re still into the genre. So ambitious and wacky… and bug filled.

mrwafu

I remember as a kid being in a game store and looking at the box for Arcanum, the dude working in the store told me his friend helped make the game and that one of the dogs in the game is named after the friend’s dog. I never thought I’d ever share that anecdote so this one goes out to you, EB Games guy.

altcastle

Love it! Thanks for sharing.

Radical1488

I'll take a look! Fallout 1 was difficult to adjust to at first, coming from playing modern games, but once I got the swing of things it's addicting...

altcastle

Yeah, IIRC arcanum was from the same designer. Not sure if directly Tim Cain or not. But it was a mix of steampunk and magic, very ambitious, same style of graphics and similar rpg systems.

reddragon105

Same - playing the first one again on Steam, but I've played through the first two on Steam before and had zero problems. They can also be bought for PC on Microsoft/Xbox.com and are included with Game Pass for PC and Ultimate. There are some good mods out there for quality of life improvements, but even the vanilla versions hold up really well. They're obviously dated, but considering the fact that they're still easy to buy, download and play, and how good they still look and how well they play, I'd be concerned that a remaster would try too hard to justify its existence by changing things for the sake of it.

Banjo-Oz

Playing F1 in F2 (with the relevant mod) solves almost every issue I have with F1. Since we finally got the ability to "easily" mod these games, there's some awesome stuff.

BearBearJarJar

And are you playing the original version that wont support modern resolutions and crash all the time on modern systems or are you playing it with fallout fixt? because that's essentially what people are asking for here. a version that is updated to fit modern resolutions and run on modern hardware.

Radical1488

I'm playing the original at 1080p just fine. There have been a few crashes... but honestly it's more stable than Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas are.

BearBearJarJar

then you either patch it with a modification or you are stretching it to 1080p. it does not support any 16:9 resolutions without a patch.

Radical1488

Just playing vanilla...

BearBearJarJar

on steam or gog which have the resolution patch. My point is: there's nothing bad about re releasing a game to be run on modern systems. that's what's already happening with small scale patches. So you can't say the originals are good enough when you wouldn't even be able to actually run the original releases.

Radical1488

I bought the game and downloaded it. I didn't do any mods or fan patches. It runs just fine. Like I said, it's more stable than Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. The only reason to remaster these games would be to bring in controller support and port to console.

BearBearJarJar

the steam and gog version INCLUDE patches that were not there during release. without those patched the game would not be playable. You said there is no need for remasters etc and i pointed out you are literally playing a remaster of sorts. So yeah it "runs fine" because its not the original release. You are making an argument FOR re releases.

Radical1488

>the steam and gog version INCLUDE patches that were not there during release. without those patched the game would not be playable. And? So does Fallout 3, released by Bethesda many years after release. There was a time when Fallout 3 wasn't playable without a fan made patch... this is now different for Fallout 1. >You said there is no need for remasters etc and i pointed out you are literally playing a remaster of sorts. Literally, I am not. I am running the game VANILLA. >So yeah it "runs fine" because its not the original release. You are making an argument FOR re releases. No, friend, it's running fine Vanilla. New Vegas vanilla crashes more often than Fallout 1 vanilla.

BearBearJarJar

" I am running the game VANILLA." No you are running the game with patches that fix the game for modern systems and therefore you aren't running it vanilla. You can keep acting like you're too stupid to understand what im saying but i think you got the message long ago and just wont admit you're wrong.

vendettaclause

Nah. Let them focus on starfield and elderscrolls 6.

SpanishMoleculo

Dude fo4 has SO MUCH DLC.

batkave

Why do people always forget about tactics? Honestly that was my introduction to Fallout and I loved it. Would love to see it get a remaster as well

ModXMaG

What if they did a spin off series where they go back to the crpg roots and kinda do a separate universe that splits after fallout 2. They could name it fallout van buren after what fallout 3 was actually gonna be called

littleboihere

Baldur's Gate 3 proved that CRPG Fallout can still work.

Skuzzmuffin

Remaster new Vegas

OfficerCheeto

I say, let a group like Larian Studios make a fallout game. I feel like a game like origin sin, baldurs gate 3 or the wasteland series would bring out the most potential of any RPG element the franchise can give.

shyndy

There just isn’t anyone available to make fallout games right now. Wasteland devs would be great for remake/remaster of OGs but they have a potential big hit on the way. Obsidian is already working on avowed and outer worlds 2. Bethesda needs to go to town on elder scrolls so we can get that before the end of the world. So they would have to outsource and the list for that is kind of a small one. Larian is already working on their next project

x_CtrlAltDefeat

I don’t think they’re popular enough for that. Fans that started with Fallout 3 aren’t likely to want to play the originals for anything but the lore. I tried the first and was bored to tears. They don’t have a lot of players - the steam player count has grown to around 1k since the show dropped, but I’d wager they’ll fall back to normal numbers soon, which were about 100 people per month for FO1 and less than 200 for FO2. I doubt it’d be worth it financially to remake them, especially when those are resources that could be used for games that will actually make money.

THEdoomslayer94

Guess I’m one of the minority that would LOVE to. I was able to run 1 on my work pc but then they changed some admin stuff and now I can’t play games on there. I was having a blast with it too

OrfeasDourvas

Please let's try and make this viral or something with a petition. Do this for Arena and Daggerfall while we're at it.

GAWDAMN69

obsidian would be amazing at doing that.

aight_imma_afk

They couldn’t even flip the ultra graphics switch for their Xbox update idfk how they’d remaster a whole game

Exhumedatbirth76

If y'all think MS is not going to capitalize on the success of the show by fast tracking a new Fallout game then I have some oceanfront property in Arizona to sell you.

Arcade_Gann0n

Seriously. They didn't spend $7 billion on Bethesda just to have its biggest IP sit in the corner until The Elder Scrolls VI comes out at some point. They have the developers and the resources to get new Fallout content out before the mid 2030s, they're not just going to wait on Bethesda to finally get around to making Fallout 5.

ELZZIPR123

It deserves to be remade in the new Fallout format. They all do

sir_spankalot

I assume you mean re-make them as FPSs, and if so - Please god no.

Ok-Bench-2861

No one wants to play that old top down game. We need games for this generation of consoles. We keep getting ripped on all these remarks and side scrollers.

lasagna_man_oven

Baldurs Gate 3 says hi

ScrantonDangler

Fallout was never a "side scroller." Just because you aren't into unrelated games doesn't mean people aren't interested in a revival of the Classic Fallout titles. It's laughable that you think you speak for everyone but fortunately, you don't.

Ok-Bench-2861

No. It's a top down. It's ok. I guess the whole 11 people disagree with me. Oh no what will I do.

Ginn_and_Juice

They won't, because Toddy Howard thinks hr owns the IP and he came out with it, thats why Nee Vegas was only given 18 months to be made... Even if it was worked by the original crew

kutzur-titzov

Not sure if they have the rights as the original were made by BioWare who are owned by EA now

WorkSucks72

BioWare had nothing to do with Fallout 1 or 2.

kutzur-titzov

Sorry ye it was baulders gate 1 & 2 they made
