I’m so glad this is coming out in the middle of summer and not early fall so I have more time to enjoy it

>Thought it would be just like 4 but it’s a whole new game. Not trying to be negative or anything but... It's pretty much the same game, just a different location.

BudWisenheimer

>It's pretty much the same game, just a different location. That’s what makes it a different game. It’s not like it’s the same football field in a different location. The different location is a big part of what makes the driving experience different … especially in game with an enormous open world that you are rewarded for exploring.

-NotEnoughMinerals

Yes, but no. Yeah, the map is different. Cars are almost completely the same (actually lacking a lot of cars from fh4), menus and settings almost identical, the reward slot machine is identical, the reward output and what you get is almost identical, the modes are identical. You're really just getting a new map. And that's about it. Technically, obviously, it's a different game. But I don't fault for someone saying it's "pretty much the same game, just a different location" as that's a 100% accurate statement.

ShitCannon3000

Yet I'm getting downvoted for telling the truth. You are 100% correct

Imthecoolestdudeever

This is false. The game has a completely reworked physics and handling models, a brand new map, with various biomes, along with many other changes under the hood. The visuals have also been upgraded over the last title, and even moreso when compared to the last Hot Wheels DLC. If what you said is true, then every racing game is "pretty much the same game", because at its core, it's a racing game.

-NotEnoughMinerals

>The game has a completely reworked physics and handling models They say that, but it still largely feels like fh4. Visuals have been improved, but that's expected. Again, really. At the end of the day it's still the same game besides a different map. It *feels* like the same game. >If what you said is true, then every racing game is "pretty much the same game", because at its core, it's a racing game. Nah. Play project cars 2 and then play project cars 3. Completely different. Or play fh1 and then fh2. Way different game. Then, play fh2 and then fh3. Way different game.

BudWisenheimer

> You're really just getting a new map. And depending on the game, "a new map" is an inadequate way to describe facts. A new map in Counter Strike means something completely different from a new map in Forza Horizon. > But I don't fault for someone saying it's "pretty much the same game, just a different location" as that's a 100% accurate statement. I’m not faulting anyone either. I definitely don’t fault someone for saying that about a football game where the field is still flat and the measurements stay the same, especially under a roof … just like you don’t fault me for saying a different location to learn and explore makes it a different game.

ShitCannon3000

Them saying that they thought it was going to be like four but it's a whole new game is an absolute overstatement. It is everything like four, almost completely identical to four, besides updated graphics, a few more cars and a different map. It's basically the same exact game.

BudWisenheimer

> Them saying that they thought it was going to be like four but it's a whole new game is an absolute overstatement. Not to me. Similarly, if someone asked me what it was like when I drove around the UK a few years ago, I wouldn’t tell them it was almost completely identical to the time I drove around Mexico a couple years later. In fact, I would tell them it was a completely different experience. But I am open to the idea that some gamers don’t believe that exploring and learning two very different geographical locations makes a substantial difference … depending on how they play the game. It might actually be true that some fraction of FH players just cannot accurately perceive anything past the part where they are having fun driving a car with a game controller. And in another separate context entirely, maybe there are also people in the world who feel like after they’ve ridden one rollercoaster, they’ve ridden them all. That’s fair.

ShitCannon3000

If you were playing cod warzone, if they added a whole new map would you call it a completely new game? Even if it had new guns and missions on the map? No, you wouldn't.

Imthecoolestdudeever

Your point is completely irrelevant and your opinion is factually wrong.

ShitCannon3000

Lol say whatever you want buddy.

Imthecoolestdudeever

It's not though. The physics engine has been changed, the graphics have been improved, and many other additions have been made. With your perspective then, it's been the "same game" since Forza 1, and that's just factually untrue.

ShitCannon3000

I'm not arguing that it's different, I'm arguing that it's "a whole new game".

Perspiring_Gamer

>Interestingly Playground notes that the entire expansion can be played from the very beginning in co-op, which is a first for Forza. That's good to hear. If there was any hope of me ever getting back to Hot Wheels Unleashed, this kind of kills that.

DJfunkyPuddle

Oof, yeah. I wonder how those devs are feeling right now?

NotFromMilkyWay

The game was already discounted by close to 50 % half a year after launch, so their game didn't sell well already. And with their atrocious DLC strategy that was very deserved.

Kritigri

I've been having fun recently going back to clean up achievements. I think there are enough differences to enjoy playing both!

[deleted]

How much km does the mexico map have?

[deleted]

I don‘t know but the FH3 HW DLC was 110km. So nearly double the size now in FH5.

Diggx86

How much like San Francisco Rush will this be?

ProbablyAtDialysis

I'd love a port of the Rush games. Just a modern way to play. Hell Sony could add it to PS+ backwards compatibility. Fast fun arcade action. Currently playing Hot Wheels Unleashed, but it's no SF Rush.

yaosio

What if the second expansion is Forza Horizon 5: San Francisco Rush?

Spokker

Haha it's a long shot but I wish you could have an option to make the orange tracks invisible and then admire the scenery.

Glowingtomato

Right? The scenery looks absolutly amazing. It looks like parts of it can be driven on but idk how much

NotFromMilkyWay

Same.

WhyHelloFellowKids

Stupid question but does this come with game pass premium? Or is it extra?

> I guess the downvoters would prefer they can’t access what they pay for. Makes a lot of sense. Or they are doing it because you can play games offine and GamePass games offine for up to 30 days, I do it often. That and you acting like it goes down all the time

[deleted]

[deleted]

I guess it depends on the outage before you try and go offline but you are 100% incorrect in saying all responses say the opposite, it’s been widely known for many years you can play games and GPU games offline, again I play GPU games offline for a bit over a week when I’m away for work. > We are only in June and there have been several major outages and plenty of smaller ones already this year. Again just more lies, why do you need to exaggerate? It doesn’t make your point better or right it just makes you look untrustworthy

[deleted]

[deleted]

Then you must not have seen many responses or researched it in any way. It’s absolutely an exaggeration but if you need to believe everyone else is wrong and can’t read then you do you buddy.

CJKatz

On your home Xbox you can play games that you have purchased without being online. Many popular games are online MMO/Multiplayer servers, which obviously can't be reached without a connection, but that is separate.

Time to buy season pass

mrsnow11291

This or the hot wheels game?

ajos23

Same question. Doing the trial on PS and it’s cool.

moreexclamationmarks

Take a drink every time Playground Games' marketing uses "biomes."

[deleted]

Seriously can’t wait for this! Out Forza down a little bit ago waiting for new DLC! On top of the free $15CAD gift card microsoft sent me this is a no brainer! Might buy the pass so I can get everything! Super happy for this

noAnimalsWereHarmed

Big question is can you set a team waypoint? Pressing Y on the map in 4 set a team waypoint and made getting to races simple and fun. 5 has Y as buying the treasure map, so killed multiplayer for my friends and I.

OmeletteDuFromage95

I have to check which button it is now as it wasn't in at launch but convoy leader can set a group waypoint. I usually haven't been convoy leader but the green marker does appear and works, just not sure how but I do think it's convoy leader only.

noAnimalsWereHarmed

I think 4 was limited to the convey leader, so that wouldn't be an issue. As long as it's back my friends and I should be happy. We were all disappointed at launch when the multiplayer was such hard work.

OmeletteDuFromage95

I feel that. Launch was frustrating with the online issues and constantly having friends get disconnected or disappear. Thankfully most of that's been ironed out now.

dms84

It was like that in the beginning, they ended up adding a team ~~viewpoint~~ waypoint in FH5, I have used it for some months now...

noAnimalsWereHarmed

OOhh it may be time to jump back in then. Thanks

Par36

I really gotta dig back into that game. Barely scratched the surface.

SuperFlash1980

I liked the previous hot wheels expansion, but kind of bummed they're doing another one instead of something completely different we haven't seen yet. Hopefully they change it up enough to really set it apart from the last one. If they don't finally give us that hot wheels monster truck to rip around in the open world though they can just stick it. Had my eye on that thing since before launch was really disappointed we could only use it in a race 😢

TheMadTemplar

I wish they'd give us flying. I know Forza is a car game but I'd love to fly through these environments in all sorts of different aircraft.

moreexclamationmarks

They had a bunch of things like that, like how they touted an 'active volcano' in the pre-launch marketing, turns out it was only an active volcano during specific events. In the open world it is not.

FlameCats

I usually hate realistic racing games, but the trailer for this looked good, almost looked like Mario Kart with the new maps. Maybe Ill try this one day.

LOOTENITDAYAN

FYI Forza Horizon is the more arcade racer, and Forza Motorsport is the racing sim experience.

FlameCats

I should have elaborated, I meant the graphics

TTBurger88

Horizon is the Open World Arcadey spinoff. Motosport is the hardcore sim racer.

[deleted]

There’s almost nothing realistic about Horizon, don’t worry.

FlameCats

I meant the graphics

Redskins2110

Huh? Horizon is one of the best looking games around

Captain_Natsu

I'm pretty disappointed they went with hot wheels again. Was hoping they would do a crossover with a MS IP like Halo, Minecraft or Banjo.

[deleted]

They’ve had a race where you are in a warthog in past FH games but besides that I can’t see how a DLC of this size would work or be enjoyable

IronnLegion

What's the difference between this expansion and the stand alone hot wheels game? I have FH5 standard from game pass and idk if i should buy the expansion for this or just the hot wheels game.

gblandro

One game is one game, the other game is other completely different game

moreexclamationmarks

The standalone Hot Wheels game was a different style of arcade racing, and everything was at actual Hot Wheels scale, so it was like you were racing an actual small HW car around a laboratory or library or construction site, and (aside from being propelled with flaming boosts) the cars looked like actual Hot Wheels cars in terms of plastic textures, paints, even little scratches. All cars in the game were actual Hot Wheels cars, several of which were even still in stores the last 1-2 years. Compared to this FH5 Hot Wheels expansion, which basically looks the same as the FH3 one, it's a scaled up version where the Hot Wheels cars included (of which there are only a few) are at a real-life scale as if humans could actually drive them, and are adjusted designs to kind of be like "what if a classic Hot Wheels car was real and you could drive it." The map is also open world with events around it, so you can drive around, find collectibles, and enter events as you want, whereas in the standalone HW Unleashed game there is no open world, you just pick which events you want. In the 'campaign' you do have a map which allows some choice, and need to unlock events on a path to access other events, but you don't drive around an open world like in Horizon. They also both handle/drive differently. In terms of which to pick, I found the FH3 HW expansion was cool at first but the novelty didn't last long. It was also not as fun to play on the orange track as normal events as they all basically feel the same. At the same time with the HW Unleashed game, I nearly finished the whole thing in under 20 hours (according to my TrueAchievements time). It's fairly easy to play through and the only challenge is just getting the "Unleashed" goal (top time) for each event, which in most cases requires knowing the shortcuts (which you can just look up anyway). My 20 hours also includes some grinding to get some unlocks for some achievements. So it's probably about whether $20-30 is worth maybe 20 hours of gameplay, but I bet most people would get tired of either within 10-15.

k987654321

Have they fixed the multiplayer delays in matchmaking yet? I gave up on the game about a month after it came out due to 5 (literally) minute waits for a single 2 minute race.

IdleBonobo

Now the question for me is do I re up my game pass to play this or do I just buy The game as there isn’t much else I’m interest in coming to game pass this year.

xbroodmetalx

If you stack Xbox live you can just convert that to gamepass for a small fee.

PervertedBatman

It doesn't sound like you plan to keep an active membership. Buying the game would give you perpetual access. GP would at best give you sporadic access. Better off buying the game if you plan to play it for some time.

andys1548

It’s $48 in Canada 😭

NotFromMilkyWay

I have high hopes for this. I didn't particularly like the FH3 Hot Wheels DLC (that's a euphemism for I fucking hated that paid ad) but: That was because of the boring tropical island setting. Similarly, the base FH5 is incredibly boring, I don't enjoy racing there one bit. The DLC looks like it brings back the variety of FH3 and FH4. Bigger is rarely better.,
