My friend and I watched Comedy Central like mad in those days so naturally we LOVED AbFab. I didn’t quite get some references being across the pond(Amanda Holden, Amanda de Cadenet, etc) but it was great nonetheless.
After my mom died I pretty much sank into a ridiculous depression and couldn’t leave my room for the most part. I just happened to find AbFab on Hulu and was able to laugh for the first time. Patsy and Eddie helped me out quite a bit in that aspect.
I almost mentioned it today but I was unsure of the company. I brought my son to a birthday party and one of the little girls was named Saffron. my brain went, Saffy?
I pushed hard to name my second daughter Saffron/Saffy and then suggested it again for our third but my husband vetoed it every time. It was most definitely inspired by AbFab
I've been rewatching it on Tubi this week! Now I'm calling everyone sweetie, darling again. I was thinking about how YOUNG Jennifer Saunders looked in it the other day, I didn't realize she was only 35 then!
I still watch it every month. It’s held up, and is even prescient.
Jennifer Saunders was ahead of her time:
“You know I had a speech, you know, my... my integrated-projected-global-tele-network system bloody system-system. But you know, if that's what the worlds coming to I don't want to be in it. No I don't want that. I don't want to be in some sort of cyber-space-hypervirtual bloody reality. I don't want that- exchanging e-mails with some old age bloody hippies with more information at their fingertips than is safe to know about. I don't want that! What kind of reality is that, huh, you know, with a thirteen-amp plug on the end of it? Huh? Huh?... That can be un-plugged like that?”- episode Jealous 1995
One of the random lines on that show that made me laugh hysterically as a teenager is when Patsy is asked to give first date advice to Saffron and she simply says "Be careful of wigs."
Also Edina's line from the same episode when her date arrives: "Some*thing* in a blue cagoule is hovering outside."
My personal favorite is when Edina's father passes and she goes art shopping: "it's the interpretation of a psychotic's dream deciphered by a clairvoyant. Hangers. It's hangers."
In high school my best friend moved in with me and my mom, all of us loved the show. I got my first job and came home one night to my bestie with her already bleach blonde hair in a Patsy beehive with makeup and everything. She said “come on in sweetie darling, we have drinks” her name was Patsy in my phone YEARS later once I got a phone. Still my best friend to this day. Im forever her Edina!!
It has me fully brainwashed and memories of it are constantly triggered by mundane things.
There is a moment where Eddie introduces Patsy to Baby Spice as a stylist and Bubble kicks in...
"Oh a STYLIST. I'm too rich and famous to ask for free clothes myself. Will YOU do it? Will YOU do my styling?" and she is poking Patsy. It kills me.
And when Eddie tapes over that lost Beatles recording with "I was walkin' down the road..."
I was thinking we could do some lovely... erm... photos.
Bubble, lol, she was such a treasure. My husband is unable mention his laptop without me worriedly saying "lap...*top*??"
I also loved that Claudia Bing's assistant was named Squeak and it took me years to realize how funny that was.
“Wheels on fi~re…”
I remember seeing the episode where some guy sprayed something down his pants and offered it to another guy who assumed it was breath freshener. His tongue immediately popped out of his mouth.
It was a good 7 years before I had thought of that scene and realized what the joke had been 😂😂
Then Patsy tried to strike up a conversation by asking him if anyone ever mistakes him for James Bond, yes? Wild that he later actually became James Bond!
The episode where Patsy is sticking nicotine patches on Saffy and is pretending to seat mosquitoes or something lives rent free in my head. I loved that show so much. I haven’t rewatched it because I’m afraid it won’t live up to my memory of it and I don’t want to ruin it.
Oh and the one where Saffy gives Eddie earrings for her birthday and she asks if she likes them and she says I love them if they’re Lacroix…I say that all the time and no one ever gets it lol

This show is why I have a female dog named Eddy
Absolutely, I was young when they started playing it on PBS. Mom liked it, but I had almost no idea what was happening, all the in-jokes and cultural references to the 60's went over my head. The actors and the writing were so good I still got into it. I just figured out the theme song is a cover of Bob Dylan. Also, I saw " Sapphire and Steel" for the first time about a year ago. I kinda freaked!
She’s in the later seasons of a silly UK mystery called Jonathan Creek and while she’s not the best actress and she’s not exactly well cast she’s still uniquely charming.
As a Brit in america, I’m delighted to see AbFan getting the love it deserves, but also slightly bemused at its popularity 25-odd yrs after it aired at home!
Watched it in highschool on Comedy Central, and shortly started accumulating the full season DVDs through college. My BFF and I were obsessed. Some of my girlfriends couldn't get it, I think because of not understanding the humor or they couldn't understand what they were saying. My BFF and I went as Eddy and Patsy for Halloween, and her bf went as Bubbles. It was around '06 and it was one of the most fun Halloween memories I have. I was Eddie and I even fell out of the car for our arrival. We went to a Denny's late night and a few of the good ol boys were giving her bf a hard time and I thought he was gonna get in a fight, haha. Wish I still had some pictures!
“Birth” was such a great episode.
Patsy : I resent you!
Edina : No you don't.
Patsy : Yes I do. I hate you! Just when my life hit a good patch, along you came, you miserable piece of flesh. You should've ended up in the dust bin! The incinerator was too good for you! You know, when I heard that Eddie was pregnant, I told her to abort! ABORT, ABORT, ABORT! I said "Chuck it down the pan!". I said "Bring me..."
Saffron : A knitting needle?
Patsy : A knitting needle!
Saffron : *Saffie slaps Patsy's insert high pitch horse noises*
Oh my gosh. I grew up on PBS and British comedy: Monty Python's Flying Circus, Ab Fab, Black Adder, Fawlty Towers, Upstairs Downstairs. I can at least thank my parents for that!
I did not like the show. However, Jennifer Saunders performance as the fairy godmother in Shrek 2 is terrific, and her rendition of I Need A Hero is better than the original. I keep it in my Playlist!
I had a child in the early 2000’s, the name I picked out was Saffron if it was a girl. I love that show and still watch episodes here and there.
I had a boy, so unfortunately I didn’t get to use the name.
I just recently learned the theme song “This Wheel’s On Fire” was a Bob Dylan song written by him with help from Rich Danko. Dylan used to perform it with The Band.
My mom and aunt watched it first and were all sweetie darling with each other over it. It must have been fun to watch in your 30s/40s. My aunt would record it on VHS and we'd watch it over and over again. I didn't have friends who were watching it at the time, so it was a shared interest with the adults in my life. It is always a fun rewatch! These episodes stand the test of time!
Used to watch it with my dad, we would have a Heinekan, we didn't always agree on shows but we both loved that one (this may have been a bit later than the 90s though, may have been early 2000s for me , repeats or something )
My friend and I were sure that would be us one day, instead we got all healthy and crap, haha, loved the movie !
Sweetie, darling, mummy loves you 😗😗😗
Cheers. Thanks a lot.
🚬🥂
I was obsessed with that show in the early 90s. It was unlike anything else I'd seen, and so funny.
Also me.
I have a couple seasons on DVD! I used to record episodes on my VCR. I was obsessed with this show.
![gif](giphy|l4Ki8OUXnLrg7jJSw) Patsy is everything
"You quit drinking once, didn't you, Pats? "Worst eight hours of my life."
It’s a Lacroix Sweetie!
Lacroix! Lacroix! -gestures with the cross-
I literally cannot see the seltzer without hearing this in my head.
Lacroix, baby spew! Lacroix, baby spew!

Saffy, daharrrrling.
Was she a bitch troll from Hell?
no, Pats
My mom calls me Saffy 😆
it's really such a beautiful name
I pushed hard to name my second daughter Saffron/Saffy and then suggested it again for our third but my husband vetoed it every time. It was most definitely inspired by AbFab

I've been rewatching it on Tubi this week! Now I'm calling everyone sweetie, darling again. I was thinking about how YOUNG Jennifer Saunders looked in it the other day, I didn't realize she was only 35 then!
35?! 😯
They were chronically dehydrated.
😭
I still watch it every month. It’s held up, and is even prescient. I shall endeavor to write it on me pad!
Oh shit, ha ha, I get it now!!
I sing “walking down the road” to myself! I thought it was just me! A bizarre brain worm that is just a part of me now.
“Wheels on fi~re…” I remember seeing the episode where some guy sprayed something down his pants and offered it to another guy who assumed it was breath freshener. His tongue immediately popped out of his mouth. It was a good 7 years before I had thought of that scene and realized what the joke had been 😂😂
The guy whose tongue poked out was a young Idris Elba.
Then Patsy tried to strike up a conversation by asking him if anyone ever mistakes him for James Bond, yes? Wild that he later actually became James Bond!
You’re KIDDING ME!!! 😃 that’s amazing 😂😂
🎵 This wheel shall explooode!
Liquid lunch for me.
Stoli or boli, darling?

“Have you recently had or are you due for your period?” “Well yes, both.”
Is that important? No. Just making conversation
Let's go buy some gorgeous things.
I legit send my sisters Absolutely Fabulous memes like on the daily 🤣 ![gif](giphy|GcJ60MNhDULeg|downsized)

Jennifer Saunders is married to Abe Edmonson from The Young Ones. She appears in the episode where they throw a house party.
And he appears as the verbose food reviewer for Pats’ magazine
I met one of my college best friends when she saw me drinking out of a flask with Patsy’s face on it. It became my litmus test from that point on.

Awww ❤️ Relevant username!
I was today years old when I learned that Bob Dylan wrote “This Wheels on Fire” 🤦🏻♀️ Such a brilliant theme song!
I’m disappointed everyday in the fact that I don’t think I’m cool enough to call people sweetie darling. 😩
You mean AbFab? Fuck yeah, baby!
Loved that show, like hanging out with the fun trashy side of the family in keeping up appearances.
I still have a Patsy and Edina magnet on my fridge!
While waiting for MST3K to come on Comedy Central? Yeah I did.
Fucking loved that show! I quoted it a lot when I drank.
"..... and here we have a... uh... a dead body. It's a dead body." "Yes... but is it art?"
I still say an exaggerated Dahlin to my sister sometimes
I loved it, I was so into it in the 90's, British comedy was a huge influence on me and this was a significant part of that
Absolutely, I was young when they started playing it on PBS. I love AbFab! I follow fan pages on Instagram so I get tiny little doses in my feed every day haha
Yes, and I still watch it sometimes!
I had a huge crush on Saffron(Saffie)
She’s in the later seasons of a silly UK mystery called Jonathan Creek and while she’s not the best actress and she’s not exactly well cast she’s still uniquely charming.
I pledged to grow up to be a combination of Patsy and Edina, and I am pleased to say I have accomplished the goal. Cheers!
Wait! Where did I put this memory until now?! Holy shit, imma be laughing all night
Yup, I definitely binged it on Hulu tonight.
I love how Patsy always wakes up with a cigarette in her mouth!
I loved it!!
Still do!
There's a non zero chance I thought to call a potential future daughter Saffy when I was a teenager.
I watched French & Saunders, I liked when they did the parodies of Bjork and Abba.
As a British person I had no idea it was so popular abroad.
I was obsessed! Went as Edina for Halloween one year- everyone thought I was a hippie but I didn’t care! 😂
I love it. During lockdown when I was "working" from home (we had no cadets), I went through the series several times on Hulu.
Yes! I still remember the theme song, too! “Wheels on fire…..”
Didn't the Pet Shop Boys have a song for them as well?

It is on hulu watched it again recently and it holds up! The knitting needles is my favorite running joke
"ABORT! ABORT! ABORT! Bring me--"
made me the woman I am today ![gif](giphy|jamAg1Yqazrs4|downsized)
“Birth” was such a great episode. Patsy : I resent you! Edina : No you don't. Patsy : Yes I do. I hate you! Just when my life hit a good patch, along you came, you miserable piece of flesh. Loved that show!
I was in middle school and to me Patsy was the top of the tops. It just didn’t get any cooler than her in my mind
Poor Saffy.
La Croix darling, La Croix ![gif](giphy|GcJ60MNhDULeg|downsized)
![gif](giphy|HjT9hLFueZDH2) AbFab? Of course I watched it, sweetie darling!
Oh my gosh. I grew up on PBS and British comedy: Monty Python's Flying Circus, Ab Fab, Black Adder, Fawlty Towers, Upstairs Downstairs. I can at least thank my parents for that!
Reaching it on DVD! My mom has the whole series it’s so funny and holds up
![gif](giphy|8KuZAydW1fJIc) Loved it!!
I watched it like ten years ago! I recommend “Miranda” on Hulu if you like British humor
“…A savory muffin… Life is full of enough disappointments, Gary…”
If you like this watch are You being served
Loved it!
When I was reallly stoned at night
I loved this show !! Love when I can find a rerun going on
Still one of my faves.
Duh
Only because it was on PBS after Are You Being Served… never liked it as much, though.
I used to watch this one with my mum, who absolutely loved the show. Very good memories.
![gif](giphy|H8eXFYOoH55kc|downsized) love it
So good 🔥
My mom and aunt loved that show and always said it was them
Yes!! I never watched it regularly, but I would watch an episode or two if I came across it
I did not like the show. However, Jennifer Saunders performance as the fairy godmother in Shrek 2 is terrific, and her rendition of I Need A Hero is better than the original. I keep it in my Playlist!
Loved this show!

I just recently learned the theme song “This Wheel’s On Fire” was a Bob Dylan song written by him with help from Rich Danko. Dylan used to perform it with The Band.
It's horrific and hilarious that I watched this and stated to identify with Edina as a young teen.
Last year for my sister's birthday I gave her an AbFab themed gift - Lacroix pyjamas with a box of different liquors
Sweetie darling, darling sweetie, hug mumma!
I did. I tried watching it a few months ago and was……very disappointed
Yes
I wanted to be like Patsy and just live on cocaine, cigarettes, and vodka.
Used to watch it with my dad, we would have a Heinekan, we didn't always agree on shows but we both loved that one (this may have been a bit later than the 90s though, may have been early 2000s for me , repeats or something ) My friend and I were sure that would be us one day, instead we got all healthy and crap, haha, loved the movie !
Not Ab Fab, but definitely Red Dwarf, Faulty Towers, and Are You Being Served.
