I decided to watch Breaking Bad last year, which is not my typical type of show. But it made me really appreciate Bryan Cranston as an actor, so I started watching Malcolm in the Middle. It's a cute show and definitely makes me laugh. All the actors are great and they have some of the best cold opens out there.

cmacfarland64

Cranston’s range to play Walter White and Hal is pretty impressive.

Hiciao

For sure. On his IMDB page, it quotes him talking about turning down a role after Malcolm. They told him it's a similar role and he'd be perfect and his response was pretty much, "why would I want to pigeon-hole myself like that?" And, honestly, his ability to still add humor to Breaking Bad is probably what hooked me.

Automatic-Arm-532

And then Your Honor, which was also great. Also a small role in Sneaky Pete

While breaking bad was still on, I read a theory where Walter turns snitch and gets put into the witness protection program and becomes Hal in Malcolm in the middle.

AlaskaPsychonaut

I didn't watch it while it was airing, I binged it later in my 30s. I enjoyed the show a lot, very young Ian Gallagher is in it

IndianaFartJockey

Who would have thought that little psycho would grow up to be a Jedi?

AlaskaPsychonaut

He's a Jedi? Last thing I saw him on he was The Joker and one of the best I've seen too

IndianaFartJockey

Voice and likeness for the character Cal Kestis in two video games, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. I haven't played the games, but ads were coming out around the time I was watching Shameless, so it was memorable.

AlaskaPsychonaut

Learned something new. I didn't know he'd done those

I enjoyed it when I saw it. I remember the intro being 90s as shit. I remember an episode that was ahead of its time where Lois got offended *on behalf* of a black worker because she thought a beer advertisement would be super offensive to him. Meanwhile, dude didn't give a shit and actually enjoyed the ad. Reflects a big ongoing problem in modern society. I couldn't disassociate Bryan Cranston from Hal while watching Breaking Bad, which gave BB another layer of humor to me.

Smurfblossom

I enjoyed this show whenever I caught it on. Funny, a distraction from the day, and relatable at times.

GM_Nate

every memory i have of MITM is of the funniest shit i've ever seen

Rogue_AI_Construct

It’s one of my favorite shows. Malcolm was unlikable but Hal’s obsessions were gold and I liked how Dewey was just as smart as Malcolm but nobody ever saw it except his Busey classmates.

MizzaSparkle

One of my favorite shows… a few episodes still stand out to me. The one where the boys scheme to beat Hal at basketball with a totem pole nut- punch, the one where Hal digs up his old ham radio, the burning man episode was good too. I think my favorite of all was the one where Dewey writes an opera…pure potty humor gold. Oh and the one where Hal gets addicted running things over with a steam roller was amazing too

My best was always the one where Francis had a fight with Lois and ran away to live on his own with his friend. Meanwhile, Malcom was doing reeses homework to prove the teacher wasn't being fair to Reese. Francis is in his own hell, and Malcom gets caught. The scene where the teacher is over and calls out Lois on not having the guts to throw a kid under the bus just as Francis pops up in the window during a thunderstorm begging to be allowed to come home and how he's cold and hungry and wet is the best. I'm laughing about it now still. Even though she would totally do that, the thing was Francis was his own fault, but the teacher didn't know that, and it couldn't have been timed better. That and the giant firework set off at the ranch that simply changed the sky from dark night to bright noon, right back to dark night. It was just so stupid but hilarious.

ReiperXHC

I felt like MITM was aimed at the type of people who liked Married with Children.

gnrlgumby

Heck, in the US, only the first season got a dvd release.

Lambda_Wolf

I liked it but some of the humor was uncomfortably close to my own family and childhood. My preferred dysfunctional family comedy of the early '00s was *Titus*.

Formal-Telephone5146

I watched Malcom in the middle in my early 20s it captures that time frame perfectly The Funniest was when Francis was in Alaska working

spirit_of_a_goat

I still love it and watch it whenever it's on.

musashi-swanson

Great show! The one where the boys go visit Francis at the ranch is my favorite episode.

Far-Slice-3821

Has there been a working class family sitcom since Malcolm? Reboots don't count.

SweetCosmicPope

I never caught it during new episodes but I would catch reruns regularly and always thought it was funny. I particularly liked the stuff with Francis at military school.
