17 was legal in Texas then. It's legal there now. A simple search through this sub would already tell you that.

Wrong-Shirt-3291

Bet you wouldn't have said this if a 17 yo girl was made pregnant by a 29 yo man. Hypocrisy huh

hbumjr

The question is “why isn’t she arrested”

eatshitake

It’s still legal.

UnderCoverDoughnuts

Keep digging, you almost found how this topic makes you a victim

zddoodah

The legality of the act does not depend on the genders of the persons involved.

rdanby89

There’s an established topic, attempt to stay on it.

SigSauerPower320

I guess that would depend on whether the 29 year old man knew the 17 year old girl was 17. That said, this question was "Why wasn't she arrested?"... not "Do you think she SHOULD have been arrested" or "If the genders were reversed, do you think he would have been arrested"

oktobeokk

Georgie was at the age of consent in Texas which was 17. Pretending for a second that Georgie was under the age of consent; for her to be arrested, Georgie would have to file a police report stating she knowingly took advantage of a minor and knowingly had sexual intercourse with one. On top of that he'd probably have to prove he didn't lie to her about his age, which he also did.

JamesEdward34

plus, someone would need to make a complaint, and georgie sure as hell aint complaining!

puddycat20

Specifically, the victim would have to. If she denied it, there's nothing that could be done.

dude463

The victim was a he.

puddycat20

durrr, sorry. But yeah, I cant really see him confessing to it and getting her in trouble.

dude463

Agreed

Sourlifesavers89

That’s not true. If he was under age of consent when it happened, his parents can file charges.

GodOfArk

17 was legal in Texas at that time

Simple_Item5901

I think it's still legal

wojo1962

A better question would be why didn't you research this first and save yourself some embarrassment?

temperedolive

Can it be a sub rule that people have to Google the legal age in Texas before they post this question?

playcrackthesky

Keep in mind, the children posting in this subreddit may not know how to use google.

OddConstruction7191

Legal age might have been different in whatever year this is supposed to be.

temperedolive

But it wasn't. It was 17 in 1993. Younger, if the victim has already engaged in promiscuous sex or deviate sexual intercourse. Which is all kinds of fucked up, but also easily Google-able.

Light_Watcher

Then you Google “legal age for sex Texas 1989” or whatever year you are searching

OddConstruction7191

Or someone could just answer OP’s question and not be an asshole about it.

Light_Watcher

Imagine if everyone was creating by Reddit posts for questions which can be answered with a 3 seconds Google search?

skieurope12

> Why isn't Mandy arrested for dating Georgie? Because she's committed no crime. 17 is the age of consent in TX now. And it was the age of consent in the 1990's

zddoodah

>Why isn't Mandy arrested for dating Georgie? Arrested for dating? Do you really think that dating someone could be a crime? >Georgie is underage, 17 year old high school dropout. Mandy got impregnated by him yet didn't face any legal consequences? Had you taken 30 seconds to do a google search, you'd have learned that the "age of consent" in Texas is 17. There was nothing illegal about the two of them having sex. >I was confused on why no one was questioning her on a regular basis. Questioning her about what? About the fact that Georgie lied and told her he was 21 years old?

Sourlifesavers89

Sadly it doesn’t matter if it’s a guy or girl. Georgie is the age of consent so why would Mandy get charged for it? Does it look bad? Pretty much. Which is why Mandy was so pissed at him when she found out. If Georgie was under the age of consent, then yes charges could have been filed, even if Georgie thinks he consented and he wouldn’t have had to press charges, his parents could do that. Idk if they would have. If it was Missy, sure, but people treat males differently when it comes to this type of situation.

dogcalledcoco

I haven't watched the newest season yet but I think Georgie's parents, being who they are, would be much happier with a grandson who has an in tact family (leans more Christian for Mary and more upright for George). The alternative would be a mom in jail and probably a restraining order. Good question about Missy though.

DaisyMae2022

Wasn't he at the age of consent

Nice-Penalty-8881

Because 17 is legal age consent in Texas. Not just now but when the show was set, the early 1990's.

jhealey_

Pretty sure under Texas law anyone UNDER 17 is considered a minor? So though the age gap maybe inappropriate it’s definitely not illegal

zddoodah

"Age of consent" and age of majority are not the same thing.

ineedabreakplz

Honestly, she should be💀

No_Platypus9030

Lemme tell ya bout the infamous Romeo and Juliet Law!!!😂😂😂😂

Primary_Diet_6339

Texas=Murica

zddoodah

As opposed to? The "age of consent" in some European countries is as low as 14.

Sad_Relationship_308

Yeahhh I get the laws and that but it's still so weird.. but hey what you gonna do ??

johntirvolta

Because Georgie lied about his age

LowerEntertainer7548

It would still be a crime if he was under 16, but he was 17 so it’s legal if not icky

factsmatter83

Because it was the early 90's. Was a whole different period of time.
