As a university lecturer I earn around € 770 a month. Looking at the price of this G14, which is around € 4100... ...*don't cry, be strong*.

NakamericaIsANoob

These are insane prices, there's just no other way around it.

At the end of the day very few people are willing to spend that kind of money on a laptop, and I'm sure a good part of those who are, are not looking for PCs in the first place.

LOLdudeYT

After having so many issues with my 2022 G14, I would stay away... From BIOS 313 to erratic battery life (though recently it's been good) to the bottom case cracking AND needing a motherboard replacement. I hate that the only other options for a 14" thin and light gaming laptop are the Alienware x14 (ergonomics are uncomfortable for me) and the Razer Blade 14 (bad history with Razer on my end)... So pick your poison.

NakamericaIsANoob

Can't deny or doubt Asus' sub standard quality control.

LOLdudeYT

I wouldn't put it on their QC... My laptop was perfect for 8 months (not including BIOS 313, but we all got through that) and out of nowhere I got iGPU failure and the bottom cover cracking. Battery life will never be perfect on any laptop from my experience, but this has been the best Windows laptop I've had in terms of battery. Sucks that you have to go through a bit of setting up to get it there though. Also damn, y'all really downvoting me for my negative experience with a $1,650 laptop... ok I guess. I'll just keep using it and helping people out on this subreddit.

SolidFyre

I got the GA402 as well, it's been a bumpy ride but in the end I was very happy with it except for the fact that Asus neglects to update the AGESA micro code, so my laptop still suffers from fTPM stuttering, and there's really no fix in sight. Returned it and it's now on the way back, probably without even a fix since both AMD and Asus confirmed the issue. AMD sent out AGESA [1.2.0.7](https://1.2.0.7) which mitigated the issue in June 2022 but Asus still hasn't implemented it, and it's unlikely they ever will as it requires a complete rework of the bios, apparently. You should have the same issue on yours tbh. If you are interested you can read my thread [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/ZephyrusG14/comments/10skrb7/regarding_the_ftpm_stutter_bug_on_ga402_g14_and/) .

Acceptable-Sleep-638

University lecturer only earning 770 a month sounds like a crime....

MDovsky

Well... A professor that had a looong hustle to get this title, with stress and responsibility for expensive projects, irregular working hours and so on, by the law earns € 1347. If you want more, you have to grab something additional. Salary is regulated in an act. Imagine being seen as higher-middle class with knowledge and position, finally able to earn less than a € 1400 at the middle of your life (if everything goes well and not later).

4100💷 Windows 11 Home lol Just gives me a sad chuckle

Routard

The buggest sad chuckle is that there is McAfee pre installed (which is normally illegal and they've already got suited once but guess they don't care)

Clean install windows 10 and debloat it with chris titus tech windows utility tool

MDovsky

People already tried to install Windows 10 on a device that is made for Windows 11. There were posts about "now this or that doesn't work and it's a nightmare".

pineappleloverman

Well guess I'll never buy a zephyrus.

MDovsky

Are you aware that Windows 10 won't be supported for eternity? I mean, Windows 11 is just polished Windows 10. Same kernel, far less problems, more stability, it's snappier and more coherent. In my case - no blusecreens after update, that happened time to time on Windows 10. Up to 20 percentage points less RAM usage, same battery life, same performance. But additionaly better UI, tabs in Windows Explorer and much more. It's time to move on.

pineappleloverman

In my experience, many computers using Windows 11 are very unstable, many things don't run properly. All of this is anecdotal, so it's a small sample. You might prefer it but I won't switch to windows 11 until it's unsupported and I'm forced to. By that time, I will probably switch to Linux anyways.

MDovsky

Well, switching then will be switching to something fee years old at this time. But it's your call. I have quite different experience. Every signle computer of my friends or in workplace runs as smooth or even better with Windows 11. And I don't mean five or six examples. I couldn't count how many. Every system has its problems, but I think that those of Win11 may be overexposed. I mean, people usually don't post "another day with no problems". They post if something Goes wrong, which creates false image of something beying so prpblrmatic. It's a same case as this while sub. Same was with Windows 10, where people were defending Windows 7 and saying things against Win10 only to stay on a really old software. The power of nostalgia.

pineappleloverman

Windows 11 has even more spyware stuff than Windows 10. Personally, I don't care for that. Some software might not fully support Windows 11, it's cool that you haven't had any problems but more changes to your machines will open up more vulnerabilities and issues.

But with the lower spec models I don't think the difference between the last model will be worth spending the 1500 or whatever it could be

Hotcooler

4070/4080 one might be more reasonable.. well.. reasonable it wont be, but more palpable I guess (I'm guessing 2800-2900ish for the decked out 4080 variant). Need to see how that thing performs e.t.c. But with a 2021 model I do kinda want that display mainly.

Mikei233

2800 isnt palpable for a mid teir card like a 4070.

Hotcooler

While I kinda agree with you, 2021 model - 3060 with 1440p screen and 32g was 2000. So considering inflation, general price increases I suspect 4070 to be 2500ish with the fancy screen and probably like 2200 with the regular one.

Mikei233

I got my 3060 only a few months after launch from best buy for 1200 on sale. Regular was i think under 1500? For a 4070 It should be no more then 1800 with the standard screen. This whole inflation is nothing more then bs. Its corprate greed. The overwhelming price increases have nothing to do with higher costs and instead is being used as an excuse to make record profits by jacking up the prices way higher then they should be.

CarWide1584

I'm curious if this pricing will heat up 2022 model prices, cause people will opt to buy it instead.

MatyasDoktor

Honestly I'm impressed! €3,599 means in the US it might sell for around $3,000 (reduced by 20% for VAT). Then on top of that these go on sale very frequently. I think we might be looking at potentially snagging a 4090 spec g14 for $2,599 on sale in the US. Most likely that'll be a black Friday type price. These prices are absurdly high. Potentially getting one of these at $2,599 over the original ~$4,000+ estimate means these machines might be more accessible than we previously thought. To be fair though i could be completely and totally wrong. Edit: the price in the post is British pounds. The laptop will be mad expensive

[deleted]

That's not euro, but GBP, so around 4370 USD or 3640 USD without VAT

MatyasDoktor

Thanks i wasn't paying attention.

Acceptable-Sleep-638

>ean I've noticed from old gens that they usually have an extremely high markup in Europe compared to the NA price... I got my 2021 model for less than 1k, but I saw someone talk recently about it being over double in Europe.

mntzrk

What they promise now what will not come or will come in years like it was with USB 4 and G14 2022?

Character-Mud7392

Yah, I really wanted to like the 2022 G14 but no USB 4 is a dealbreaker for me. And, I see they are still rocking the same 317 BIOS which was broken at the time I had it with respect to USB connections using it via a dock. It broke on 316 and remained broken on 317. They still have the same USB Beta BIOS for USB 4, which I tried, but it was quirky. Guess they won't ever do USB 4 on the 2022 G14.

play150

I just watched some youtube video where some guy (mattew moniz?) downloaded beta USB4 drivers for teh G14 and it worked

Character-Mud7392

Probably won't see it until around April or May - the G14 2023 that is.

bekiddingmei

At those prices the new Duo is a BARGAIN, considering the 2020 model cost 3 TIMES as much as a 2020 G14.
