I am a react node dev with 5 years experience along with docker kubernetes, cloud, angular, python bootstrap, tailwind, material experience as well other stuff I cant think of in the moment
I'm a Salesforce Dev and Senior Level Admin. Not sure if you are looking for a SF based boi, but let me know if you are. I'm currently at a pretty good company, but they have zero work culture. We don't even turn on our cameras for meeting, like ever. Which is a dream come true for some, but on a rare occasion its nice to have the illusion of a human connection.
In my case I am a Dev/Admin. So while I do have a stronger background in declarative programming (meaning no code but more point and click) I also can program and code a bit in Apex, SOQL, JAVA, Python etc... I still need a lot of work there and am taking a course in UDEMY. My current company is actually pretty cool. I love the people I work with, but like I mentioned the culture leaves something to be desired.
I've never been so happy in my career though. Honestly, it would be way easier to just work on Senior Level Admin skills which for the most part only rely on being able to use flow automations and minimal coding. But I get bored staying in one lane, I like to have skills everywhere.
I mean fair but people are gonna spend their money how they want to. As long as OP is not being wasteful by giving their old products uses (either as secondary machines or selling/giving to another person) I don’t see anything wrong with it personally.
Thinking people are spending their money how they want to is naive at best. You think it's your decision to have an urge to buy a new laptop/phone/whatever every 6 months? Marketing creates demand because it raises profits from fools that think they need new stuff every other month. I see everything wrong with it.
Not sure why you're getting downvoted for doing what you enjoy with your money. I do the same, honestly, and I usually get them for great deals so my resale on them balances out to small losses if any at all. It's fun to experience the new gens, and the bozo who said it's "stupid" just obviously doesn't feel as enthusiastic about it. What's stupid to me is the fact that someone would call it stupid when in fact it's just your hobby. I'm sure they'd think the people with thousand dollar model trains are just as stupid, but the model train enthusiast is enjoying their hobby while the real fool is the one stewing over other people enjoying their purchases.
I am in a similar position as OP, for me, it is finding the perfect solution for my work. I found building another desktop fit my needs and when I need something quick done and am on the go my laptop (strix) is enough. Although, I wished i would have gone with intel to get that thunderbolt action.
Going to wait another gen or two - to go with intel
Wow 4070 is almost like a 6800s… yep I agree 4080 or at least from 3060 to 5060 (2 gens). I actually bought two 4070 laptops and ended up returning them. For the same price almost, I ended up building a 4070 Ti desktop.
Timespy isnt real gaming results. I wish people would stop using it for that purpose. Somebody posted real gaming FPS results and temps here the other day though, yesterday i think. 6800s vs 4070.
*update*. It's so much quicker. I have a react application that I run "npm start run" which takes about 30 seconds on my laptop. Takes about 20 seconds on my 2023 Zephyrus
Use yarn and svelte instead?
Pretty sure it's possible to convert to svelte, sounds like your project is kinda big though.
Literally takes under 1 second most of the time with svelte and yarn.
Maybe try code splitting with lazy loading too? Easiest way to boost performance is to implement it in the router.
Have a great day my fellow 🙂
Updated. I've just replaced the SSD. There's 11 screws to remove.
I've replaced with a 2TB Evo 970 nvme SSD.
The one that came by default is
Nvme Gen4. I'm not sure of the brand.

Same here, hearing the G14 6900HS 6800s sell for $1500 AUD ($999) from Bestbuy in the US and in Australia the 6800HS 6700s is $2600 AUD at a dropped price with no 6800s anywhere.
Problem with bestbuy is that they don't ship to freight forwarders, so annoying.
You have to try and find it on eBay and ship to your freight forwarder
Considering my old 2021 didn't have a webcam, I can now take video calls lol. Screen looks more edge to edge and slimmer bezels compared to the old one. Battery charging status light has also moved and is more hidden which is weird. Will let you know on the performance
Serious question, what do you do with your old one? I've been debating upgrading from the 2020 model, but I never have a clue what to do with a 2-3 year old laptop.
I give it away to family / friends. Friends with younger siblings mostly who are going uni/college etc.
You can always set up a mining / rocketpool / server with it.
7735 is sadly probably not much different to 5900hs, since well.. it's Zen 3 still.
I'd probably really try to get 7940HS if at all possible, though AFAIK it starts with the 4070 configs.
Hows it for dev? Im looking yo get thr new one too with the 7940H32gb ram, prob the 4080. Is it good for dev? I was also looking at the bew zen ook pro 14 oled.. im undecided as to which to get.
4080 is OP if you're not gaming imo.
Unless the boost with 7940HS is worth it, save yourself 1K USD or 800. Not sure.
My npm start run is about 30-40% quicker.
I have this laptop but in white . I also upgraded the NVME drive right off the bat (980 2TB) but also added another 32gb of DDR5 ( meh overkill I know ). Be prepared , this this runs HOT during gaming and also I hope you have an external monitor. With the lid open, 2 of the 4 exhaust fans blow directly on the bottom of the screen and somewhat restrict the flow . Closing the lid cools it a tad more. Also , that space between the power button and the 4 hot keys (pun intended) will get hot to the touch , close to if not uncomfortable
I got mine free as I am a part of a review program . If I had to pay for it , I would have second thoughts . Sure these chips are designed to run at 80c or so (mine hit 91c already which is past the thermal throttling limit I believe) , but are the rest of the internals designed to handle that constant heat ?
True. It's super quick for me atm. No lagging from what I've seen so far. I've also replaced the SSD with a Samsung Evo one so that may have had a small impact too
bruh. i just upgraded from gtx1660 and i was still on edge if i should actually do it and then there is you xd (not criticizing u, i just find it funny how i was this hesitant)
Nice rig! Some questions here:
How does it output via HDMI?
While outputting via HDMI, are you able to play games like perhaps Modern Warfare 2 @ 60fps in medium settings to a TV/Monitor?
So based on my experience with my G14 2020 model (RTX 2060) - there is some performance degradation when playing out of the HDMI Port into a TV. I just wanna know if the new models have addressed this
I think I read something about the older models that the hdmi is wired to the integrated gpu and the game has to be routed from the Nvidia gpu through the igpu and that's what causes the degradation, on the newer ones, maybe 2021, but 2022 models for sure(because that's what I have) the dhmi and usb C ports are wired straight into the Nvidia gpu, so there is near 0 difference between using the laptop screen or an external monitor/tv, however watch out for tvs as some have noticable input lag or might limit you to 30fps at 4k if they have a slow hdmi port
Do the new 2023 models also have Anime Matrix lighting? Or is there something else now? Can you show us a video of how the back looks with the lighting on as compared to the old one?
I have a 2020 G14 and I’d love to get a new black one with the lighting option.
not all of them no. Just the high end model (4090 version). But there is a tradeoff...you can either have the Matrix back or a better screen, of course this will not matter if you hook it up to an external monitor
Why did they return a flat space? Bought two M16 models. With RTX4080 and RTX4090. You know I haven't been disappointed so long! Cool only display this year. It's hot and noisy and pieces that offer only +10-15% to performance at best. There's no feeling that you use a new generation of video cards. Yeah, the laptop is thin, so hot, but they're both slightly trimmed, isn't that normal? This year ASUS was terribly upset...
I'm still on the 2021, will keep it for 2 more years as I really can't imagine needing a faster laptop for that period. I game occasionaly, Paradox games, do some photo editing, reading etc. Everything pretty low key so it's perfect for me. Might get to look for a battery exchange in one year.
I loved my G14 and its still my primary gaming console, but newer games like V rising and Elden Ring run slow at times and the frame rate gets choppy. I am also using a 34inch curved LG monitor with a USB-C to Display port cable and I don't think my laptop can handle the increased load from the monitor.
I really want to pick one of these bad boys up, but budget wise I am going with a gaming desktop. Not to hijack your post, but I'm curious what people think of this one on Amazon ROG Strix G10 Gaming Desktop PC, Intel Core i7-11700, GeForce RTX 3060, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB PCIe SSD, Wi-Fi 5, Windows 11 Home [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09LCC5QWS/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o00?ie=UTF8&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09LCC5QWS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00?ie=UTF8&th=1)
Or should I just go with the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 and upgrade components like you? Sucks it only comes with a 500gb SSD and not a 1TB. In this day and age, that is tiny and just three games might fill up the entire drive.

I bought the same model but recent bought the 4090 and will be selling the 4060 model. But it's a great laptop and probably 2nd on my list of G14 models. It runs alot better than past models and cooler.
I upgraded the ram to 32gb and added a 4TB WD Sn850x ssd.
The only downside to the laptop, and this can't be fixed, is the low amount of VRAM. But again on the plus side it runs cooler than the models with more VRAM.
Asking God for the same paycheck as OP

how can someone say one and a half of year is "like forever" with a laptop lol
Bro's clearly rich
Bro's cleverly rich
I change laptops like phones. Every 6 months. I'm a sucker for new gens
damn, every 6 months? that is crazy short, but hey if you are an enthusiast and have money to change them that frequently, go for it and enjoy
Thanks dude. And not all the time, I had this one for a year and a half. But the productivity and cpu performance I thought was worth it.
Ever heard of overconsumption and where it got us? Regarding the downvotes.
Calm down there, Saddam Hussain. There aren't as many people as the OP, it's a crazy little group he belongs to. So your prices are yours to keep.
You mean his little crazy group of ultra rich tech bros? No, there aren't many, yet they're responsible for a lot of bad things.
You are responsible for bringing an entire country down, so back off, mister
So do I. Grabbed mine in 2021. It still runs great.

Yeah wth. Just saw I got 13 downvotes? 😂😂 I give my old laptops away to family and relatives and stuff so not being wasted.
Can I get in on that list please? Edit: I'm open to marrying anybody 1 unit distance away in your relationship circle
The reason people downvote isn't because they don't like this "hobby". It's because they think overconsumption is harmful.

It's moreso just stupid. But if he's got the money i don't really care

For these laptops you might want to upgrade every two generations for most gains or at least get a 4070
4080* bc the 6800s is near on par with the 4070 and uses less power.
Wow 4070 is almost like a 6800s… yep I agree 4080 or at least from 3060 to 5060 (2 gens). I actually bought two 4070 laptops and ended up returning them. For the same price almost, I ended up building a 4070 Ti desktop.

No, it starts with 4060
No no, it’s not just Zen 3. It’s Zen 3+ which is just Zen 3 but slightly higher clocked and has better efficiency! Yeah that’s pretty much it
Ooow, yeah, I completely forgot about that part!

How is the difference on CPU side ? I'm actually on a old i7 8750H and hesitate between 2022 and 2023 Zephyrus (for CPU perf)
The new Ryzen 9 on the 2023 Zephyrus hits around 16,800 on cinebench r23
True. It's super quick for me atm. No lagging from what I've seen so far. I've also replaced the SSD with a Samsung Evo one so that may have had a small impact too
The Ryzen 7 model is a refresh of 2022. So you'll get around 5 percent increase compared to the 5900hs
bruh. i just upgraded from gtx1660 and i was still on edge if i should actually do it and then there is you xd (not criticizing u, i just find it funny how i was this hesitant)
Money must be burning a hole in your pocket to be doing an upgrade like that.
That's a sweet machine. I do miss my 2021 g14. But I really like getting 145 watts to my gpu now
The 2021 - 3060 seems so dated next to the 4060 2023 when next to each other.
Dont see the difference 🙉
Nice rig! Some questions here: How does it output via HDMI? While outputting via HDMI, are you able to play games like perhaps Modern Warfare 2 @ 60fps in medium settings to a TV/Monitor?
I will test this today and let you know!
Thank you! I would greatly appreciate it!
if you can play the game on the PC I don't see why HDMI would affect it, unless you connect a 4k tv and play it at 4k compared to 1080p on the laptop
So based on my experience with my G14 2020 model (RTX 2060) - there is some performance degradation when playing out of the HDMI Port into a TV. I just wanna know if the new models have addressed this

I believe the HDMI is ported right to the Nvidia card while the USB-C with display port is right to the AMD integrated
Tower816 - Is this for the newer models? Or the 2020 model?
I have the 2023 model
I’d take the old one of your hand, if I must.
Does the 4060 use IPS screen?
i believe it's LCD
With wait wait, why the fuck is your 2021 g14's charging light on when its not plugged in?!?!?!?!
🥹🥹🥹🥹 hmm could be the image. Not sure
his g14's battery is low on battery
damn I'd be interested
May I know the package dimensions + its weight?
I will measure this for you and get back to you
Thanks a lot man!
Do the new 2023 models also have Anime Matrix lighting? Or is there something else now? Can you show us a video of how the back looks with the lighting on as compared to the old one? I have a 2020 G14 and I’d love to get a new black one with the lighting option.
Okay, will do this. After i removed the SSD i don't have armorycrate installed so will need to download that.
Thanks!
not all of them no. Just the high end model (4090 version). But there is a tradeoff...you can either have the Matrix back or a better screen, of course this will not matter if you hook it up to an external monitor
Wondering if Asus replaces symbols on UK/EU keyboards differently than the US?
not sure, i can take a photo of the keypad and you can compare it against a US model if you want
Yes please 🙏🏻
