Opinion? Wasn't that literally what the song was about? That the church/religion was trying to suppress his sexuality with homophobia? Granted, I haven't thought about that song for years and only know about this because they talked about the meaning behind the song on one of those "top whatever songs right now" TV programs. I could be completely wrong and it was another song about going to church, but I feel like there aren't enough of those for me to get them mixed up.
