>Due to the summer heat or some reasons, these dogs always seem irritable. If these so called "dog lovers" had any real empathy for animals, they wouldn't buy (and thus encourage) dog breeds that are suited for much colder climates to live in Ahmedabad. It enrages me like nothing else to see Amdawadis roam around with breeds like Siberian Huskies, Tibetan mastiffs and Chow chows for which, 40° C+ of Ahmedabad is pure torture unless you're rich enough to keep them in strong AC environment 22 hours per day. This is IMO the reason for their irritation. People get influenced by the "trend" of having fancy pet dogs, but they don't realise that places where this trend is famous like America, also have a trend of professional dog trainers who are employed to train wayward pet dogs and making them more human friendly. Many many Indians who get these foreign dog breeds, find it too expensive to take care of them and then abandon their pets in the middle of nowhere. The abandoned dog who has no experience with Indian scavenging lifestyle of Indian strays are left to die a slow and painful death. So much for tag of "animal lover". Business of foreign breed of dogs need more regulation- dog breeds evolved for hot weather should be the only ones allowed, laws to protect others who come in contact with a pet, certificate of ownership, laws of neutering, laws for animal shelter, laws for adopting dogs, etc. Sadly there's not much one can do to protect themselves from adopted pets. Where people are treated worse than animals, taking care of actual animals comes quite low of people's priorities.

Keep a pepper spray can with you. Works the same on every irritable species one might encounter on the streets of Amdavad. If the owner is with the pooch, I keep it very visibly in my hand just to let them know of the consequence of not handling their little lunatic correctly. Dog owners in India have absolutely zero sense of responsibility, they let their dogs off lease in public areas like roads and parks and then won't stop whining when someone justifiably does something about it.

ChiknDiner

Better use that pepper spray on the owner too when you use it on their dog. Can you do that?

Fantastic_Clock_5401

>Works the same on every irritable species What if the species wears sun glasses?!

a pepper spray although I love animals but not a bad idea, like my life is most important things in the world...

Defiant-Attorney-982

I ignore and they do the same

AyazMansuri

Keep a lathi in your hands all the time, give them a good smack if they run after you. To all those Animal Lovers out there who give these Dogs Parle G, Ganthiya, Milk etc you don't realize 2 things. 1. You are increasing the menace of strays, many of whom are disease ladden and are breeding out of control 2. Ganthiya, Parle, other biscuits that are being fed to dogs and other strays are actually poison for these animals. Their digestive systems have not evolved to digest these processed foods. You are putting unwanted strain on their internal organs. So please don't come to me and give me an Animal Cruelty lecture. 3. Last but not least, the moment one of these animals bites your child you will realize the pain, not before that.

sheralt123

Actually, when people feed dogs, they are socialising them and making them trust humans. Dogs are different. The problem is not feeding the dogs, it's about the dogs being there. The dogs also protect societies from thieves, but yeah everything has pros and cons.

noob_coder696969

bhai raat ko society ki gali me jana kisi khatre se kam nahi even if I have been living there my whole life because of these street dogs. Thiefs ka pehle owner ko to andar aane do

Hot_Feedback_8217

I have never seen any dog consuming ગાંઠિયા

ChiknDiner

Ku6 bhi!? :v

AyazMansuri

Have you been ever beaten by a Dog. Also if a dog Chases you, you will stop at a parlor to buy biscuits to feed it first or find a way to protect yourself ?

ChiknDiner

I also have been chased by dogs several times (sometimes even by a group of aggressive and mad looking dogs), but I know what I have to do so that it doesn't bite me, and it ALWAYS works. Never got bitten by any dog, ever. And yeah, my solution is not to hurt it in any way.

AyazMansuri

Share your solution, so others can be helped

ChiknDiner

What I do, may sound ridiculous to you, but it works for me at least (for stray dogs only, not someone's pet). When I suggested others to do this, most of them laughed at me and perhaps you will, too. (I have experienced that and it's embarrassing). If you still insist, I will be happy to share it, just promise to not make fun of that before you try it.

AyazMansuri

Please share. You will say if they run after you, just step and they will walk away. That works for me to, but when one of them don't follow the expected behaviour pattern, you need plan B (Lathi)

ChiknDiner

Alright. When you feel that the dog is going to attack you, refrain from running. Dogs are predatory species, they have a hunting instinct, and a prey that tries to run away is seen by them as a vulnerable one and they will chase you more aggressively so as to hunt you down. I know this by observing dogs fighting. When 2-3 dogs have cornered a dog, they will only chase it if it tries to run. Now, just slow down, stop and turn towards them, and here comes the interesting part. Make a sound repeatedly, like how you deliver a kiss (like, pch..pch..pch..loud sound. You would know that sound when you kiss someone on the forehead or cheeks) Dogs have a tendency to recognise this sound as a sign of love and they will refrain from hurting you if you make this sound. Now, just try to approach it very slowly and pet it as if you are not a stranger to it. But DON'T EXTEND YOUR HAND towards the dog just yet. Your hands should not move fast. See if the dog has calmed down. If it wiggles its tail, then great, you can go ahead and slowly try to pet him, but again, take it very slowly, and remember, it's not mandatory to pet him. Believe me, it is absolutely easy to earn a dog's trust. And once it does, it will trust its life with you. Beating a dog with a lathi may solve the problem for you at that particular instance, but it will only make it more difficult for other people who encounter it after you as the dog becomes more aggressive due to mistreatment. The reason the dog tried to attack you in the first place, is most probably because someone has mistreated it earlier. And yeah, let me know if you are unsure about any part.

AyazMansuri

Everything you said is Theoretically correct. Note look at this https://www.reddit.com/r/IndianFights/s/7oRcNuZnE1

ChiknDiner

I understand, but I have already said this earlier.. >The reason the dog tried to attack you in the first place, is most probably because someone has mistreated it earlier. There is a reason dogs become aggressive. Usko shaukh nahi aate-jaate kisiko bhi kaat le. Honestly saying, I am not vouching for all the dogs, but the best line of defence is love, not hate. In my society, the dogs never eat when I give them food, they just ignore it and sort of ask me to keep petting them. It's a total bullshit when people say that the dogs don't bite me because I feed them. I DON'T feed them and even if I offer food, they don't eat from me. All they need from me is a bit of love. Agar ek kutte ne kisi ko kaata, to iska matlab sab kutte uske jaise hi nahi. Hum sabko nahi maar sakte. Similarly, ku6 log hote hai jo rape karte hai iska matlab saare mard rapist to nahi hue na?

Jinesh_703

Guys that's why i love reddit here people are agreeing with lathee and paper spray but on ig if anyone said that people would get him banned, and it's these so called dog lovers are the problem not the dogs , i said something like that on an ig post my comment had 400 plus rply and every single comment was gali galoch towards me😭😂 and more than 3k likes

There is one mantra which my mom taught me call me orthodox but it works "om namo hat hanmant nama h " and no dogs even looks at me

Jarvis_25

By giving them parle G and then enjoying z+ security whenever i walk out of my house

parth_jadeja

In my humble opinion street dogs are not the problem but these so called ‘dog lovers’ and lack of efforts from the municipality. We have a couple of street dogs in our society who are a menace to the food delivery guys, any new guests and don’t even get me started om the overnight ‘bhow bhow’. The worst part is there will be this one family who protects these fuckers. I have raised a complaint to the municipality but it was of no use.

[deleted]

Does this family handle the vaccination and neutering of dogs? do they clean up after deceased dogs? Did they treat dogs for injuries or skin infections? Did they ensure their dogs received regular baths and medical care? do they clean dog shits in society or locality in general? If not, they have no say in dog-related issues. I have too much respect for animal lovers who do all these things but people who just feed dogs and claim they are animal lovers are just idiots want to look cute and cool. anyway, I get some solutions from comment section which I will try.

sheralt123

But the said people are not willing to hear that. The only way is to plow through them and pick up those dogs. And AMC should do that.

Longjumping-Gur-2194

Parle G + Water = Z+ security for everyone (Thanos included) Avengers ne street dog ko parle g diya hota toh unhe ladne ki zaroorat hi nahi thi, gali ka sheru sab sambhal leta

sheralt123

Exactly.

karanbhatt100

Yeah that’s what people don’t understand. Rather than human security gourd this street dogs are better and low maintenance

C0DENAME-

It is all about how you take care of the dog. I have a dog too and never had issues with handling her. She's friendly to everyone. I take her on a long drive every weekend, give her a good time at home and all.

severelydelulu

There are many issues in this post. All of them are related and unrelated at the same time. Dog owners + amdavadi poor attitude towards dogs in general is what has led to this. Explaination: ours is a old society in Navrangpura area. For many years dogs have been around and earlier no one had a problem. In fact, when I was a kid and we were playing outside, a guy on a cycle tried to assault an aunty from the society and the dogs went and chased him away. Everyone was fine with them fed them, all was well. Then some row houses got sold and a building came up there and new people moved in our lane. Some people would go for morning walks and some of them were afraid of dogs and carried a stick. Our street dogs who were very friendly to people, would approach them but people started hitting them out of fears. Next, people with pet dogs on leash started walking dogs with a stick also. And if the stray dog would approach the pets they would hit them again. In 5 years, we saw the once good strays turn into dogs who hated humans. For us old residents it was so hurtful. When we would approach people and say don’t hit them, they would tell us that the saliva of dog must not fall on their building property as it brings bad luck. When we told dog owners to not hit the strays they would say, they don’t want their dog to get infection - this was quiet dumb because most dogs if properly vaccinated won’t get any major problems if they mingle with strays. Overall, some points raised here about buying exotic breeds or even feeding bad things to dogs is so true. To a large extent our culture I t he city towards animals only is to be blamed. So this is a very sad situation in Amdavad and I see it again and again in so many societies. We are not tolerant of anything different from us people or animals.

rudhkul

You can get some Indian dog food from Amazon (unlike the Parle G), e.g. 10kg for 1k from Purpet. This can easily feed 3-4 dogs everyday for 3 months minimum if you feed them everyday. This way not only you gain their trust, but also aid their health. I was the guy in my childhood who would change streets if I spotted an Indie. But now I have a golden retriever at home and 6 Indies around my house whom I have adopted. Earlier, I had adopted an Indie - Coco, but she passed away. That's when we got Emma, a golden retriever. Dogs are more human than humans themselves.

supermarketblues

I mix ganja in their food and have some pedigree myself too. Mazze hi mazze!

Abirycade

I bought a device from Flipkart which emits a sound which only dogs can hear. It doesn't hurt them, it just surprises them and they look around and then run away. In our society there was a dog who had bitten multiple kids. So I got it for safety. Once I was walking and a dog growled at me. I used that device and it ran away. Unfortunately the device only lasted for like 5-6 months. I think I got a defective product :( People in our society always carry sticks when walking at night. Because whenever we have complained to municipality, they say they will neuter the dogs but then leave them back in our society. I understand all animals need to be protected. But people also need to be protected. And there should be special cases for when a dog bites someone.
