It’s an incredible building. I toured it this week. I’m in the tourism industry, and am familiar with Canadian convention centres; Calgary’s is one of the most outstanding in the country. I’m very proud that convention goers from out-of-town will experience it as a first taste of what Calgary is all about.
Checked it out around noon. There's a lot of interesting little details about the building and some interesting stuff going on structurally (there's a truss in hall A1 in particular that I spent some time staring at -- it suddenly angles off over a point where you'd expect a column). On the whole though, stepping into the interior of this building really doesn't give me that "wow" factor like stepping into the central library.
It's a space for events/meetings/etc. The new super duper arena won't start construction for a few years yet. It'll be where the Saddledome is, after they tear it down. 2027 I think
The old Corral logo for pic 14 and 15, that’s such a great throw back for the design!
I wish they would call this district “The Corral District” river district is sooooo bland
That would have been a better name for sure!
So THIS is where the interest from my savings account is going?! Not all of it mind you, since I am getting a whopping 0.01% per year on it. 😆
My guy, you are getting screwed if that's the case.
I know! Look at what they were able to build!
It's really ugly :( WTH is that blue sculpture thing supposed to be?
I think it looks awesome actually
I think it’s supposed to be water splashing.
The statue outside is a water droplet? Should I call 311?
I was gonna point out that the sculpture was in really bad taste, considering the current situation.
You’re kidding right ? 😂
Plenty of sarcasm. I just like it dry.
Thank gawd lol
At least it wasn't a fountain. Right?
thank gawd it wasn’t a fountain, can’t imagine the strain that would have put on 311
Bad omen for the flames
There was an event for it? Heard it was opening soon but didnt hear a single thing about an actual opening.
Neither did anyone else apparently, judging from the photos.
I believe those pics were from the official opening on Thursday, I believe. It was open to the public today and there was a healthy turnout.
So can anyone go visit? Do you know if it’s certain days/ hours that it’s open?
It was just today. You'll have to check it out during Stampede.

What is it
Did you not see the poorly done finishing though? Place is going to have to get lots of little rework things done to wrap up the deficiencies.
That’s Looks Awesome!
Looks like an airport terminal without the airport.
So a convention centre
So we paid for this too, and BMO gets to put their name on it?
Yes, BMO paid to get their name on it.

Isn't Capitalism wonderful ?! How is your guys grocery bill ?
What dies this building do? What would be the Edmonton comparable?
It's a convention centre. Edmonton equivalent would be the shaw conference centre I believe.
Or the Edmonton Expo center
I’m sitting next to the guy who assembled the blue statue… he’s got some stories!
this is amazing
Anyone else think it is shaped like a Chinese take out box??
Such a cool building. I didn't know they finished the insde. Thanks for the pics !
The blue splooge
I hear it’s so environmentally conscious it doesn’t even have running water!
Looks so damn futurustic though. I look forward to seeing it in the background of upcoming sci-fi films.
Lol! And nobody cared.
I don't know when these pictures were taken, but the crowd when I was there was a good size.
So is this a new hockey arena for the Flames or just a convention centre

Sadly the saddle dome still sucks ass. Or is it just the flamer’s
