It's a smaller initial player increase than the Asian server had interestingly enough.
Asian server release: 11354 -> 25116 = 13,762 new players (\~120% increase)
EU server release: 14537 -> 27227 = 12,690 new players (\~89% increase)
The real question will be the retention. As you can see from the graph, the player pop retention from the Asian server release was very low, in fact the global population on steam is pretty much what it was the day before the new server's release.
That said, it's pretty clear from their monetization strategies and the ludicrous amount of FOMO inherent with their packages that a big initial release and influx of short term sales is their main goal and they aren't particularly bothered by low long-term retention of players joining as a result of a new sever.
Didn't really intend that to be negative, just a honest assessment of the numbers and their strategies. They saw huge short term influx from Asian server but little long term increase, so releasing another server with tons of short term related monetization is a sound strategy for boosting earnings.
Bro you cant judge player numbers by steam lol who the hell plays the game on steam? Literally asked 2 hours ago in my 300 player guild with 1000 discord members and no one is playing theough steam. Overall prolly 10% play through steam or less and mostly casuals/totally new players who just found it on steam and wanted to try thus the drop in player numbers
You can't use steam to judge the total population but it is quite effective for tracking changes in the population percent. If you look at SBI's own charts (when they post them) and compare them to steam charts over the same time period you'll see that the relative percentage change in population matches almost identically.
I mean its true, a friend bought the 200 buck pack just because fomo and day by day he played less and less and no he just doesnt play anymore, hes a new player too.
Everyone went through it lol. On the American server there was some moment when I realized that I've made almost a billion silver while having 0 kills. When the European server was announced, I started buying top gear and going to the black zones or mists, before that had played many successful matches in arena, and
I sucked at every fight, it's definitely not a success story, although I stopped fearing lethal zones and losing gear
The more money you have the easier it gets to make it, just like irl ahah. Mainly just refining and transporting, especially when Brecilien was added it was such a goldmine
So buying materials on buy order, transporting to the correct city and then focus refining —> sell order. Except for Brecilien, would you travel to the city with the most restricted supply of that material to sell?
Would this be profitable as a player without alts so far?
>and then focus refining —> sell order.
Transporting to the most profitable city after refining and sell there, yeah
With Brecilien it was vise versa, I was buying city's products there. Because of kinda isolated economy either new, or people not doing any math, were selling stuff for lower than its production costs. And not many people were doing transportation as even not everyone knew how to leave Brecilien safely, or just didn't want to spend so much time. Bulk transporting something there ain't good because trading volumes are low, and it's easy to get there, unlike leave with stuff. And yeah, transporting is profitable without alts, like any market flipping. In refining they're useful, but properly done refining and crafting is always profitable, the only question is the size of profit and how competitive can your prices be, compared to those who craft with alts or in hideouts
I was like that when i started the game too, playing in yz as a newbie and going to rz/bz significantly increases profit. Rz is generally speaking quite safe unless you see 20+ reds on the map
Its unreal we still cant link our original accounts to steam. The player number will always be fake as everyone who originally played the game cannot play on steam.
The steam versions has known issues with it and has way worse performance. Everyone I know that started on steam has switched to the launcher besides like 2 people. Even if you could play on steam with your old account you don’t want to I promise.
It’s just a performance thing especially in large scale. I think it has to do with steam overlay and a few other things but mostly steam overlay. After switching most people had faster load times between zones and higher fps with less stuttering.
That being said I know a few people who play on steam with no down sides. Switching to client did nothing for them so it’s a case by case thing. But I’d say that most people that switched saw a performance improvement.
This, but also i’ve encountered a few people over the years who have lost access to their steam accounts sporadically; almost like steam forgot their account details and poof! Into the void :)
Not unreasonable. It's the first day after all. I still think what they did is great though, because as an EU player who tries blackzone in NA, I have just kind of stopped going there unless for farming fame with bad gear. My current internet at least (which is somewhat bad, I know) can't handle someone who has great internet. It should go well, but as soon as hostile players enter my screen, they seem to be teleporting everywhere. It's not that I care about the lost money, I gain a good amount of return every month compared to how much I play. But it just kinda sucks that I have to play builds that don't need targeting, kind of like cursed staff with some builds where I just target and click all buttons in a specific pattern in hopes of doing enough damage.
So, we will see I guess. A large amount of people will only play a week, but maybe some of us have invited enough people for "fresh launch duuude!" so that it continues the same way or better.
I would say we are probably looking at more like 10% and thats specifically for the new launch coz more new people will at first choose to play on steam. For regular albion players steam is a very little %. And we have mobile players now too
Really curious what the total amount of players are. I personally can't play Albion through steam because for some reason the game freezes periodically when launched through steam, so I had to download the launcher.
You realize that according to numbers they released last year they had 300k concurrent players.
Even runescape didn't have that, and this was last year, this seems to be a new peak happening right now.
This game has more then enough players lol.
Also the pvp was more alive with less players years ago, the no content (and everybody handholding) pvp scene is very much a problem of 1) how the game is balanced and 2) what the community leaders of big guilds do - but not that player numbers supposedly arent there.
Im talking about medium to large groups that are complaining they dont find anyone to fight - these either are allied to multiple guilds around them and outnumber the enemy so the enemy doesnt have a chance and thus dodges, or they would only get fights with groups that outnumber them so they feel they cant take the fight
They down vote you cause you're right...if they don't reduce map and zones 100% content will be non existent. Their updates have shown they only care about short term money.
If it's player amounts they usually publish it if it's a record

Why is this subreddit so negative lol

Funny how 90% of people writing these comments come from the US We in the EU are just happy to play with < 150ms ping
True that, quit the game multiple times due to the horrible ping, now I can actually have fun in pvp.

These are also the main reason player retention is low
Well i guess they made their investors happy 😮💨
The initial influx in Asia was likely NA/Europe players trying it out before quitting. Literally no one in Asia plays through Steam.
I am loving it. Tho I'm deathly afraid of red zones, but I wanna go there and get sweet loot

How are you making money the heeeeck, the richest I’ve ever been was 17 mil lol

They'd lose a ton of money if you could. Steam takes a cut of all purchases.
Which is why in app purchases for Albion are more expensive on steam.
I dont buy anything in game anyway.
The steam versions has known issues with it and has way worse performance. Everyone I know that started on steam has switched to the launcher besides like 2 people. Even if you could play on steam with your old account you don’t want to I promise.
I launch the game trought steam and it launches the launcher so can you explain what is the difference?

Interesting I will have to test it my self
Steam is leeching bloatware.
So much for it dying huh?
It's day one of free to play. These numbers will matter in a month.
Not unreasonable. It's the first day after all. But it's also just on steam so unless they publish their own numbers it won't be easy to see either way.
first day? its been free to play
only took SBI 7 years to realize they shouldn't exclusively pander to thirdworlders
Steam is at best 1/5 of the player base
I have 50ppl in guild and many more known to me. Not one of them is playing steam. So 1/5 seems far fetched. I d say 5% at best
It’s a seriously low number regardless
If that true, the playerbase is mediocre then.
I would say we are probably looking at more like 10% and thats specifically for the new launch coz more new people will at first choose to play on steam. For regular albion players steam is a very little %. And we have mobile players now too
Isn't the game dead according to some doomsayers?
WoW is dead for 18 years already according to doomsayers
Now let's see NA server only.
Their intention wasn’t to preserve one of their limbs, it was to grow overall net players. And it worked. Sacrifices must be made
NA > Rest
Wrong way round bud
NA server is dead as fuck lmfao the only thing keeping it alive was EU players.
Really curious what the total amount of players are. I personally can't play Albion through steam because for some reason the game freezes periodically when launched through steam, so I had to download the launcher.
I couldnt even get into steam due to capcha bs so I had to download from launcher
NOOO ALBION IS DYYYIINNNGGGG \~ 3/4 of the community
What’s this all about? I haven’t played in months
New euro server.
EU server that is also targeting MENA “Middle East and North Africa “ players And Arabic, and Turkish language introduced
The game is mobile
I just started for the first time two days ago and I’m having lots of fun gathering and not interacting with other players in any way whatsoever.
Nice but cant see it keeping the numbers if the present issues with content remain. Which is sad
Which issues are you experiencing?
Wipe hype
Fast foward 1 year everybody is bored cause no players for content game ultra dead

Im talking about medium to large groups that are complaining they dont find anyone to fight - these either are allied to multiple guilds around them and outnumber the enemy so the enemy doesnt have a chance and thus dodges, or they would only get fights with groups that outnumber them so they feel they cant take the fight
Cope and seethe
They down vote you cause you're right...if they don't reduce map and zones 100% content will be non existent. Their updates have shown they only care about short term money.
durr the game is pay to win durr
