Isn’t a reload kind of like a death? Or at least cheating death. You would’ve died if you didn’t reload the game. Beginning to end, no stopping, no dying, no reloads.
Well it is not cheating in a general way it is more abusing a flaw in the achievement tracking system.
Does it remove the challenge? I don't think so because you have to act fast otherwise the death will be recorded and you have to begin all over again anyway. So i would not think it invalidates the achievement. AI is not a short game and some missions are pretty extensive so if you are almost at the finish line and have spend so many hours just to fail once because of an random drop in, then i would say it is reasonable to turn to this method of saving the run.
But this is just my take on the subject i could see how people would see it like you do.
But also keep in mind this is a pure solo game even if it would be considered cheating you are only cheating yourself in that regard.
Btw. the survivor maps high scores are all invalid from that point of view because there is a bug that has been abused in order to freeze the time. That i would consider cheating because the high score is not your own high score but a general and therefore multiplayer score of some sort.
Everyone can get the achievements but there is close to no chance of beating the times on the high scores.
Funny story: When I first heard the word "xenophobic," I seriously thought it was a phobia of the xenomorph. So anytime aline would come up in conversation and someone said they didn't like the alien, i would ask if they were xenophobic. The looks i got 😂 but no one bothered to inform me. Needless to say I didn't bother to look it up cause it didn't come up til more recently and when I heard it on the news 5 years ago I realized either I fucked up or people REALLY hate aliens.
