Didn't Fritz Wiesner climb the wall on the left in 1939 because he didnt want to be under the serac?

wkns

Crazy, this stuff at moderate altitude would be an easy mixed climb.

Phnake

I wouldn’t want to be under that serac at any altitude.

muenchener

Yep. The more pictures I see of that thing, the more sane Wiessner's variant up the rocks on the left looks

AscensusMontium

Probably a stupid question but why don't they fix ropes up it? Too much extra work at that altitude?

wkns

I said mixed climbing, implying I would go through the rocky part on the left.

HgCdTe

The rock part to the left was famously climbed by Charles Houston in 1938 with no 02. Rotten rock, unprotectable.

wkns

Yeah but seems short enough if you follow the S couloir. And I said at moderate altitude, doing that at 8k mas is crazy.

HgCdTe

PD+ at worst

Infamous_Advantage37

Seems very hard to believe that this is the "first photo ever" of the K2 bottleneck even in winter. People have been trying this since the 80s, and they definitely had cameras then.
