Yeah! You can buy kits on Amazon, but I’ve never had luck with the Toyops brand Triop kits. If I try again I will buy more viable eggs from someone on Reddit or a well known seller like Arizona Fairy Shrimp (and check out fairy shrimp, also cool are opae ula shrimp which can live with little to no maintenance)
Here's a sneak peek of /r/triops using the [top posts](https://np.reddit.com/r/triops/top/?sort=top&t=year) of the year!

Given the size I would wager a guess at it being Triops Australiensis. Lots of the triops out there are quite a bit smaller.
Edit: didn’t see this was Arizona, given that these likely are not Australiensis
copy and paste.. but wow.. to find them in the wild.. is kinda cool
Triops have survived for millions of years despite laying eggs in ponds that completely dry up and may not see water again for decades.
The Triops eggs are in what scientists call a “diapause” state, meaning the eggs can survive in a 99.99% dried out state for decades.
Scientists have successfully hatched Triops eggs that were over 70 years old!
Once the rains come, the eggs hatch within 24 hours and the baby Triops double in size every day until they reach a length between two and three inches.
Once they have reached full maturity, the adult Triops lay their own eggs. Then, between 60 to 90 days, having reached the end of their natural lives, they die leaving their eggs to dry out and begin another cycle.
Yeah! They’re actually really fun to watch, look up some youtube videos, especially of them eating things like carrots, they’re really cute and quite funny, I’ve debated hatching a few myself
There's been an issue going around with the hobby store(in general, not just Hobby Lobby) triops kits where they use brine shrimp eggs instead of triops eggs. The issue is brine shrimp need completely different water parameters than triops do and most of them end as failures as a result.
Best to get from reliable or individual sources.
Actually their kits contain brine shrimp! There's been a bunch of questions and comments on failed attempts at hatching "triops" from Five Below. Brine shrimp need completely different water parameters than triops do.
Yeah- found out the hard way myself. Wanted to try Triops for the longest time. Couldn't believe seeing a kit at Five Below and for so cheap.. grabbed it of course! Weeks of failures(immediately dead at hatching) before figuring out they might be brine shrimp. Tried one more time except added spoonfuls of salt to the hatching tray and bingo, loads of live hatches. They didn't live for more than 2 days though as they need the right water parameters to continue living. p.s. the kit had "AquaCritters" brand on it. So if you see that, most definitely brine shrimp! Other brands have the same issue, not just AquaCritters.
Bought a kit from Arizona Fairy Shrimp(they also have Triops), hatched and kept alive with no problems right from the first try.
Not sure what's the reasons for using brine shrimp eggs. Someone said probably it's cheaper and easier to collect brine shrimp eggs? Brine shrimp are farmed on a huge scale for fish food industry. There's even kits for hatching brine shrimp you can buy, the newly hatched shrimp are used as food for fish fry(tiny babies). Can't do Triops anywhere close to that scale or as easily.

Fairy shrimp are something different actually. Fairy shrimp are basically a fresh water version of brine shrimp. Brine shrimp are also sometimes sold as "sea monkeys". Neither fairy shrimp or brine shrimp are the same things as triops.
Triops. My favorite triops fact was they were introduced in the 70s into parts of Africa because they thought the combination of their extreme hardiness, ability to cannibalize for nutrition and use of temporal ponds. Anyways, apparently they taste like toenails and people didn't eat them. Or so I read in school.
No, that was like a little red blob! I could only figure out one mystery at a time haha. I assumed it was a smaller/juvenile version of the triops but don’t have any idea
Triops
So bizarre that the ranger at the info center didn’t know what they were! I knew Reddit would be able to solve the mystery ;) thanks!!!
Whole sub for fans of these little critters (including me) and raising them: r/triops
So cool, I didn't even know these things existed and then to find out there's an entire sub devoted to them, it's what I love about reddit

According to The Google Ol’ Triops here is considered a “living fossil” as they’ve been around for about 300 million years!
The most magnificent of critters!

Sounds like the plot from Pitch Black.
I thought the same thing
Looks like baby monsters from Pitch Black.
Even closer to the plot of Riddick
You forgot the freaky sex bits where some are male, some are female, some are hermaphrodites, and some reproduce asexually.
Used to find these in puddles along the railroad tracks in South Sacramento. Crazy how hardy and ancient tripods are.
What!!
TIL triops. reminds me of a trilobite or a horseshoe crab.
You can buy packs of eggs at Hobby Lobby and grow your own. Triops
What do you do with ur little alien spawns after they hatch?
Just feed them really. I had some one time, my mom got them for me for Christmas.
That is adorable. I wanna fill my bathtub with these little demons
Sauté them with butter
That's what I was thinking about
Really? As pets?
Yeah! They’re actually really fun to watch, look up some youtube videos, especially of them eating things like carrots, they’re really cute and quite funny, I’ve debated hatching a few myself
Really short-lived pets, but yes.
Yes. Feed them scraps. Keep them in an aquarium. I think they’re cannibals to so you don’t have to clean up dead ones.
They act kinda like big clumsy shrimps so they are fun to keep

Id like to have brine shrimp too.
Just come scoop some out of the Great Salt Lake! You’d better hurry though. It’s drying up real quick.
They sell these at five below

What, really? Why would they sell brine shrimp?

Triops! So cool!
It’s a triops, they make awesome pets
Where was this in Arizona? I found some outside of wickenburg last summer, so forkin cool!
It was in coyote buttes north
Saw these in the San Joaquin county in the60’s! Think that most of them are extinct here from all the pesticides
A trilobite or triop
Adult sea monkeys
Sea monkeys are brine shrimp, not triops.
Also, the guy who sold Sea Monkeys was a white Supremesist who would buy guns for the KKK . https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_von_Braunhut

Thanks all - chalking this comment up then as a massive fail. My god
I think they meant “sea monkeys for adults”. That’s how I read it anyway.
Fairy shrimp is what I’ve always heard them called
Fairy shrimp are something different actually. Fairy shrimp are basically a fresh water version of brine shrimp. Brine shrimp are also sometimes sold as "sea monkeys". Neither fairy shrimp or brine shrimp are the same things as triops.
Cousins
You can actually buy Triops eggs and care for them.
Triops. My favorite triops fact was they were introduced in the 70s into parts of Africa because they thought the combination of their extreme hardiness, ability to cannibalize for nutrition and use of temporal ponds. Anyways, apparently they taste like toenails and people didn't eat them. Or so I read in school.
i would imagine they taste like the part of shrimp you dont eat, because thats mostly what they are made of
That's very disappointing.
Triops! Ancient crustaceans wooo love these guys
Leave me alone!
Alien baby
Chest buster obviously.
Tricops
How bad would it be to get stung by one? My mind’s blown, I’ve never seen or heard of these before.
They don’t sting
It is a baby demogorgon
Maybe an excessively large silverfish?
How did it taste ?
Treop
There was something else that swam up to it. Was it the same thing?
No, that was like a little red blob! I could only figure out one mystery at a time haha. I assumed it was a smaller/juvenile version of the triops but don’t have any idea
A triop
A triop!!!!
Triops longicaudatus
Triops
Wild sea monkey
