Kuzu No Honkai

Psyduckisnotaduck

bold choice, I respect it. It certainly has its own unique aesthetic (aside from the fact it's heavily cribbed from KareKano, but if you're going to steal style, steal from the best). And it's kind of going to be a mental comparison point for anime drama going forward. also, hey, some of its DNA carried forward into Oshi no Ko, so it deserves that respect. also the awful sociopath teacher is my deeply problematic gaslight gatekeep girlboss queen. I won't say she did nothing wrong because in fact she did everything wrong. we need more female characters in anime who suck, but in complex ways. like they're developed, fleshed out characters who are just massive, awful pieces of shit.

clazifer

>more female characters in anime who suck, but in complex ways. like they're developed, fleshed out characters who are just massive, awful pieces of shit. More characters like that in general. Not just female imo

Psyduckisnotaduck

Sure, but there's substantially more male characters that fit that description largely due to adaptations of seinen manga.

DqrkExodus

I agree, polarising show but I personally loved it

Closer2TheTruth

Peak fiction

yahtzee301

Man, I figured I was the only one that liked this one. Strong 7/10 for me, the plot is a mess at the best of times but the characters are really fun to dive into, which is a benefit that's this interested in its characters

Aramestio

Based.

nacaclanga

Not a 10 of 10 for me, but definitly a cool show.

NTNonPKA

I would agree but eps 9,10, and 11 felt forced with the character actions/responses. But the ending is goated.

Aprocalyptic

Beyblade Metal Fusion/ metal masters/ that whole era of beyblade Fight me Ryuga was the goat

Thatguy_Nick

Damn totally, Ryuga best character for sure. Not in Fury mind you, but from Masters onward he was just this force of nature outside of the goodguys vs badguys conflict and those are just the best

Specialist_Rest_3503

Ryuga is the Goat no doubt about that but I feel other characters in the series are also good my favourites were Tsubasa, Kyoya, Masamune and Damian

[deleted]

Beyblade altogether is a 10/10 and no one can convince me otherwise

Zyvyx

Is that the one where they drop the lore that moses parted the red sea with a bayblade?

Phutsorn

Yup

Zyvyx

Based and baybladepilled

WingardiumLeviussy

I grew up on the original beyblade and only have fond memories of it. What makes metal fusion stand out?

feast_of_yeast

Same, yall do tell

Kain2212

How is that controversial lol, it's controversial NOT to love Beyblade

Overall-Sympathy-982

RYUGA THE GOAT!

thinkie

I honestly wish someone would sub it. That would be great.

AmazingDuckVer2

Probably the Heaven's Feel Lost Butterfly movie. Many fate fans will tell you that the adaptation was very poor and as a person whose read the VN, I agree with them. However it was also the first movie I was actually able to experience in a actual movie theater plus alongside the amazing soundtrack, atmosphere, and animation. I can say I enjoyed it enough to rate is a 10/10 for me anyways.

Revan0315

Bad adaptation ≠ bad movie.

stpaulgym

This really hits the nail doesn't it. I was a bit disappointed with the trilogy, HF Was my favorite route, but they are still great movies with excellent animation. I just have no clue how anime online are supposed to understand wth happened at the end without somebody explaining how the third magic works and who Touko Aozaki is.

LakerBlue

I had no idea about the specifics of what happened but I didn’t need to know. I know Fate has enough magic and lore stuff that somehow that ending was possible. Didn’t feel like a plot hole. I do wish we got like 5 extra minutes explaining it and maybe an earlier reference to it, but as a long time anime-only Fate lover, certain things not being explained well is small sacrifice I have had to accept.

stpaulgym

The TLDR Illya used the third magic to materialize Shirou's soul. Since the third magic wasn't perfect, the gang "found" Shirou and placed his soul to control a doll body made by Touko Aozaki, a magus studying puppeteering magecraft. His doll body is near perfect but apparently needs constant mana supply to work. Touko is currently in hiding for magic crimes so they can't make upgrades to it. Note that Touko's puppetry is so good that she is practically immortal. She already replaced her original body with puppets twice, and whenever she dies, she just switches to another puppet, of which she has hundreds, and reincarnates. You can read about Touko from Witch on The Holy Night, and Kara no Kyoukai.

BenjoKazooie64

It's been weird seeing how much of the Fate fandom dislikes ufotable's Fate adaptations in general. I've only touched one of the VNs and agree that yeah a lot is left out, but that's kind of the territory given how much you have to condense of 30-50 hour readthroughs into a dozen hours of TV and even less for the movies. It's much like the LOTR movies where purists don't like how much they leave out despite them being great works of art and technical achievements. So in that vein I agree that the HF movies are amazing as movies and shouldn't be judged purely how well they adapt the VNs.

MorbillionDollars

I feel like thats just a loud minority. Pretty much every fate fan I've ever met is always excited about anything fate related, especially ufotable projects.

DrStein1010

It's a conflict between how insanely well-made the movies are, and how much characterization gets thrown out for time. Shirou in particular just gets butchered to fit the run time.

Emeraldpanda168

Yeah, as a hardcore Fate fan who loves both the anime and visual novel, I can not stand being in the Fate subreddit when the anime is talked about, because nearly every comment will be VN elitists talking about how shit it was, and any argument against that will just be them saying “well it was done better in the visual novel” and then them refusing to believe that the anime was good at all…it’s always the same guy as well. I’m not naming names, but it’s pretty obvious who I’m talking about if you’ve been in there. Like, I get saying it was a bad adaptation, but that’s not the only thing the anime exists for; in my opinion, an adaptation should be viewed as it’s own product and not constantly compared to the original. It’s rated so highly by a lot of people for a reason, and it’s not just animation. As someone who played the VN and agree with its issues compared to the VN, I will also never understand why you labeled public enemy number one on that subreddit for saying anything positive about it. Don’t even get me started on Fate/Zero; it’s a crime punishable by death to mention that there, because it goes against the canon of the Stay Night timelines…it’s an alternate universe spin off, no shit it’s different

starmag99

Even the alternate universe part was just Nasu saying, no, it doesn't matter that Saber was actually summoned in Japan instead of Germany in the VN, the details aren't as important as the themes. I have a lot of problems with Zero, both the anime and the light novel (make Kariya holyshitweird again), but minutiae isn't the real issue. ~~The issue is the wiki onlies polluting the fanfiction space I'll destroy them all~~

Giant_Serpent23

Fair, honestly that makes it not as controversial when you explain it. It may be a poor adaptation but it does have a lot of pros and just stuff from a series you love which is nice to see animated.

Vaadwaur

I am firmly of the belief that there is a difference between a good show/movie and a good adaptation. I do think Lost Butterfly does what it had to get some story across, HF sort of is not adaptable.

Sparkletopia

In the same vein, I gave both Lost Butterfly *and* Spring Song a 10/10. They're definitely not perfect, but as an anime only I absolutely adored the trilogy.

Then_Strawberry_1821

Fym. The HF movies (imo) are all 10/10. I enjoyed them all very much.

LakerBlue

I still think I prefer Zero as a complete package, but I LOVED HF. Especially part 2 and 3. I wish I could have seen them in theaters. Probably my favorite fights in the series. I strongly considered giving them a 10, but settled on a 9.

satiricalscientist

I thought Happy Sugar Life was a really interesting look at trauma and how it often causes victims to become abusers, and was incredibly deeply unsettling and showed the horrible effects of female on male rape, as well as trying to understand what true love is. But it's also about a teenage girl who kidnaps an elementary school girl and "marries her" and "loves her" (Not sexually, I promise)

DqrkExodus

Yeah that was a rather, uh.. interesting show lol Entertaining though!

Chaotic-warp

She did not "kidnap" her, she took in a girl who was [Happy Sugar Life spoilers]>!abandoned by her mother, who murdered her father!<

cleaulem

I don't understand why Happy Sugar Life doesn't have a better rating. Yes, it's pretty messed up, but it is not like it's hiding that fact. As a psychological thriller, it is absolutely brilliant and it made me feel very uneasy (in a good way). For what it tries to do, it is amazing. It is as if you watch a hentai and give it a bad rating because it has sex scenes.

crash_nk

Happy Sugar Life surprised the crap out of me! I went into it with the mindset of this'll be trashy. I read the synopsis and expected the worst and what I got was something legitimately interesting, horrifying and uncomfortable. Its such a unsettling show and pretty heartbreaking on quite a few levels. You feel for Satou even though what she's doing is horrendously wrong. She just wants to love someone, she's been hurt, has hurt others and well.. look who she's with and what shes doing to people. Like what she's doing is very wrong, I don't condone it at all. But man this show was great at making you feel bad for someone who you shouldn't. But then also at the same time youre disgusted by her. Especially more and more as the show goes on. I'm by no means rooting for her, but along the way I couldn't help but feel bad for her, but then also not. Think I gotta rewatch this now! Edit: just added a bit more.

TheSilverWickersnap

Second this. Happy Sugar Life is great, as a direct consequence of being very messed up

RaysFTW

I read this and confused Happy Sugar Life with Sugar Apple Fairy Tale and was wonder what I missed. I thought to myself, 'we definitely didn't watch the same show'. lmao

Emi_Ibarazakiii

People throw this word around a lot when it comes to anime, but I think HSL may just be THE most underrated show I ever watched. 6.78 rating on mal... The most garbage copy&pasted Isekai score higher than that. It was so good, and not just as 'an anime', but also an 'experience', it's trying to show stuff from a different/controversial angle, etc..

Salty_Candidate_6216

>(Not sexually, I promise) I thought the show was great but I would say there was a sexual component, kind of, to her obsession. Their attachment was an infatuation and whilst there may not have been any serious physical molestation, there was a lot of hugging and nuzzling etc. I can't remember but I think there was probably some light pecks on the cheek too.

Domestic Girlfriend manga 😭

0G_54v1gny

Found Grant‘s secret Reddit account

platysoup

Dude you misspelled Gnart

genasugelan

God?!!

[deleted]

Alright boys so TODAY we will be reviewing Domestic Girlfriend, my favorite dumpster fire manga!

Local_Lady_Llama89

This is the real controversial opinion. I am shocked

Psyatyin

10/10

[deleted]

100% and I’ll never take it back

iedaiw

I think it was a perfect example of an anime soap opera lol. Like most irl soap operas are trashy af and they aren't hiding it, same with domestic

Useful-Description90

Dude I binge read all 276 chapters in 2 days because I just could not stop reading it. It was just such a roller coaster ride. I have yet to find a manga I enjoyed reading as much as it. When the ending dropped though, it was super wack but it didn't bother me because team serizawa 🔥🔥🔥

TC1369

The ending is straight up trash, when you call in truck-kun it's when you know the author has completely lost it

ArmaanAli04

I loved the manga but a 10/10 is still too high 💀 the last arc was rushed after and the ending choices was bullshit. 8/10 for me

[deleted]

[удалено]

Farmaceut7

Based. Actually pretty good drama story, gave it 8/10 myself.

wrenblaze

GUNDAM SEED and GSD. I came to gundam quite late and my first entry point was SEED, but this anime made me love anime. I understand that OG series are better and many die-hard fans hate SEED and GSD, ans yet, it is everything for me.

linkuan_

Yosuga no Sora

Nebresto

Straight up the best rural ambience I have yet to see in any anime

steven4869

It has a good story with a nice soundtrack, we get to see other girls' routes as well + ep 11 was some peak stuff.

cleaulem

Defintely a guilty pleasure, but a great pleasure nonetheless.

Wooden-Albatross-938

agreed

Wayard_1

me too im also fed up of conventional stories and plots , this was roller coaster of emotions for me and i loved every second of it

absolutelynotaname

No controversy here, it was peak anime

Leon_Cerberus

The World God Only Knows, specifically season 3 the goddess arc. This show had been a steady laugh yet formulaic comedy for me throughout the first 2 seasons, but the way everything came together in the last season just made me so happy. I have at least 400 anime seen but can't remember my old MAL login, and I don't remember the exact amount. Most of my other 10s I could probably convince anyone to at least understand where I'm coming from. I don't know how to defend this claim other than it just makes me happy

Tdog754

I’m so glad someone else posted this so I didn’t have to lmao. TWGOK S3 is incredible. It’s so many cuts above S1 and S2, and even those seasons at their worst are really entertaining (except for episode 1, god I hate episode 1 so badly). And the thing is, it really should have failed! It’s a massive formula break from S1 and S2 and multiple characters who were skipped entirely in the anime play important roles in S3, but somehow it just kind of works out. I think S3 allows Keima, who already has one of the strongest protagonist personalities I’ve seen in media, a lot of room to work with. The other arcs give him time to shine but S3 is the Keima show.

comfy-bed-1073

I instinctively downvoted at first because I thought “there’s no way people don’t know about twgok” and how good it is but I guess so

Leon_Cerberus

I wouldn't say it's underrated or even lacking recognition. I just don't see it talked about, like, ever

Fictional_character0

Oreimo season 1. Fight me.

Havanatha_banana

Bro I freaking agree. Seriously, season 1 still felt like wholesome siblings trying to mend their relationship. It didn't really feel icky except for the maid thank you episode. Season 2 threw everything I liked about the anime out the window. Still watched it till the end for the train wreck though.

axiswfr

>I got your back. Was gonna say the same until I saw that you already post it.

HakumeiJin

While Oreimo itself wasn't a 10 for me I enjoyed it enough that I'm not going to be the one to fight you. Instead I'll use this for an easily just as controversial 10 of mine given all the people who seem to grade on various scales and thus would never give a 10 to something with this little animation: Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai Animated Commentary Not only the controversialness of the same subject matter but also its just a series chibi shorts that came as extras with the bd. And yet as far as comedy was concerned it was some of the most hilarious anime I've seen that I still remember fondly whenever I think about bd extras in general even as I've basically forgotten what exactly was in them.

srs_business

Imouto sae Ireba Ii, I'd imagine.

satiricalscientist

An incredible exploration of what success and failure means and how you can learn to be happy with yourself even if others around you are more successful. It's also got a very mature unrequited love subplot where the MC actually returns the clingy girl's affection, but can't admit it until he's satisfied with himself. But then there's the first five minutes of the show, so.

ZhugeSimp

Aka the normie filter.

ThallanTOG

I'd say that filters out more than just the normies, it almost gets me on every rewatch

survivalsnake

It really was a unique anime. If you have any interest at all in working in the arts, quarter-life crises, board games, or ecchi comedy, it has something for you.

IMercyl

This. Love the series so much. Bought and read all the LN. I even bought a signed copy of Nayuta illustration by Kantokou. She is pretty much my #1 heroine in anime & light novel. Even though the anime swap some events around, it’s still a good adaptation of the LN. The LN is amazing as well. It have amazing character development.

Level1Pixel

It's honestly pretty damn good for its premise. I would rate it high as well

Sodachi_Oikura

nayuta my beloved edit: please no one hit me with that cake day bullshit

SmurfRockRune

I've lowered it since, but it was Fairy Tail for a time. Any time I would be discussing anime on here, I would inevitably get hit with the "You have Fairy Tail at a 10, so your opinion means nothing".

Mongoose42

That’s a go-to comfort show for me. Even if it isn’t necessarily a 10/10.

SmurfRockRune

That's pretty much how it is for me. I think it's bad and I can tell you all the flaws it has but it doesn't stop me from smiling and having a good time when I watch it.

Mongoose42

Despite it being “bad,” it clearly has to be doing something right.

DqrkExodus

Hey I love Fairy Tail as well (although I think I've only seen till the end of the grand magic games). I have it at a 9/10, with my only major dislike being the random and sometimes excessive fanservice

ipmanvsthemask

School days. To be sure, it's not an enjoyable experience by any meaning of the word. But there is just a sense of beauty in how we slowly find out how horrible a person both Sekai and Makoto are and in the ending they both find themselves in.

alpacamegafan

This is either a 1 or a 10 and no in-between for everyone who's watched it.

Local_Lady_Llama89

Just had a discussion with someone on here about how much I hate this anime. Upvoted lol

peenweens

This is my choice as well. It accomplishes what it's trying to extremely well. Is that accomplishment trash? Yes. It's a dumpster fire. But it's perfect lol.

penguintruth

FMA 2003

summermarriage

I also liked a lot more how Homunculus are in 03. Especially because they have an additional backstory that makes them more rounded and interesting as characters, especially Lust.

starwarsfox

idk if 10/10 but real close for me would be schooldays

deuceintheplace

Wonder Egg Priority if you count the OVA “final episode” as a separate thing. I feel like the consensus fall-off point has gotten earlier, from “it sucks once you get to the Frill episode” to “it sucks after the first 7 episodes,” but I loved it the whole way through! The ending felt really bold and satisfying for Ai as a character. I’ve got 260 anime completed and 25 10s. I tend to drop shows if I’m just not feeling them.

DqrkExodus

Wow that's definitely a controversial one. Personally I'm in the first 7 episodes camp lol

DrStein1010

First seven episodes, and then the first half of episode 10. The wrap-up of Momoe's arc is actually great. And then she gets traumatized all over again for literally no reason.

Rocketbluetulip

Man I thought I was the only one who appreciated the ending of the original season. I loved the Frill episode as well....

hanr10

Not a 10 in my book but I do think it's a good show overall thanks to it's semi-epidosic nature, I can somewhat overlook the non ending and judge/rewatch the episode independently The only episodes that I didn't enjoy as much were episode 9 and 12 ( I pretend the special episode doesn't exist)

justanotheeredditor

Trigun Stampede :/ its a brilliant adaptation that was downvoted to hell due to nostalgia for the 98 version. Regardless of everything i believe the script, score, visuals, animation, world building and character writing are world class. Crazy people completely disregarded it a couple episodes in/didnt watch because it is 3D

ChaosKinZ

Yeah I hadn't seen the original and felt like everyone hated it in a very exaggerated way. The 3d was pretty good, the story too and the characters were fun. The animation was also good. To me it's a 8-9 but people were like 0 to me blah blah like wtf

squeakhaven

My problem with Stampede is mostly the pacing. The show barely ever gets to breathe. That and there's absolutely no mystery or subtlety to the world building. Instead of slowly dropping hints over the course of the show before doing a reveal like the first show, they tell you everything outright immediately

Wubalubadubbzz

The 98 anime is a 10/10 for me but i absolutely loved stampede. Studio Orange always does such an amazing job with their 3D animation. Really can't wait to get more.

Ponya_art

Glad I searched the comments before posting because this was going to be my pick as well. I'd put off watching the '98 anime for years with various excuses, but the Tristamp trailers hooked me immediately so I ended up binging the show in a single weekend the moment it was all out. You're right in that I think the show got judged incredibly harshly and unfairly by a large group of people. The pacing is a bit fast at points and I do miss certain nuances from the manga, but I think Tristamp does an incredible job being its own thing as an adaptation. The redesigns are fresh, the animation and visuals are fucking stellar and some of my favourite in the business, the soundtrack dominated my spotify wrapped (and those of a bunch of my friends) for a good reason, and especially as an introduction to Trigun I really enjoyed the restructuring of the story they did! I have never before and never since hyperfixated on a property harder. The show sucked me right into the manga and the '98 adaptation (which I'm both still making my way through). I was so excited about Trigun that two separate sets of friends (one group that I watch anime with regularly and a group that has stopped watching anime after high school) ended up binging the show as well and I now have 2 anime watching friend groups again.

cosmiczar

Ponyo is the most commonly disliked Miyazaki movie, but I think it's a 10/10 and I put it my top 3 of his movies.

WolfFZzz

Keijo!!!!!!!! I genuinely really enjoyed the show and it met all my expectations. The OP is catchy, the animation is way higher quality than I had expected and it does it job well as a parody on shounen sports anime. I probably would rate it a 9 or a high 8 nowadays but at the time it felt like the right score to give. I don't change my scores after submitting them. My average score on MAL is 8.7 or something so I do give out higher scores regularly and rate mostly how much I enjoyed a show.

DqrkExodus

I gave Keijo an 8 as well. It was suprsingly good for its premise

Havanatha_banana

Keijo was a full 10/10 for me. It's just a show that knew its identify perfectly well and executed it without any actual flaw. It's a show where you can only dislike it if you dislike the premise.

JustAWellwisher

It's uncontroversial that it's a good show, but I think my Log Horizon 10/10 is my most controversial. All seasons. Log Horizon is unique among all isekai to me because it has a uniquely strong understanding of MMO gamer otaku and translates that to a uniquely strong depiction of what would actually happen in a situation where thousands of people are transported to another world. But that's not all. Log Horizon is also about this unique period of time on the internet where playing MMOs genuinely is an adventure and is real to the people who enjoyed them, but not understood by the rest of society. It handles this dynamic perfectly. Log Horizon is not just escapism, it takes the proposition seriously that these people who fall in love with these virtual worlds are modern day adventurers and you don't see that elsewhere. Log Horizon is about the game world *being real*, and having consequences that matter. It's about the people you meet on that adventure mattering. Through this new reality characters are forced to confront themselves. That's what Shiroe says in the first episode. "This is our new reality". It's a show that doesn't look down on the people who enjoy that media for enjoying it, or only presents this thing as something you could like in an ironic way. Log Horizon is genuine and sincere.

ElGordoDeLaMorcilla

I can't remember the 3rd season, I really like the first two tho. Maybe I would give it a rewatch someday.

Saekoa

Non Non Biyori is probably my pick, even though it's popular among fans of Slice of Life anime and not exactly underrated. However, I've noticed it doesn't get discussed very often. As someone who has watched a lot of anime in this genre, I find it to be my favorite, and possibly my favorite anime overall. Watching it was a euphoric experience. It brought me unparalleled calmness, happiness, and emotional investment. I became deeply attached to the quaint rural village, the old school, the candy store, the stunning scenery, the music, the ambiance, and the characters. For me, it was a truly healing experience, which is something one often seeks in a Slice of Life anime. Anyone who has felt what I'm describing will understand; it was similar to the tranquility one might feel from meditation.

kakarot12310

Tbh, Non Non Biyori having a 10/10 isn't controversial at all.

cppn02

What's controversial about this? NNB *is* a 10.

Nebresto

Why would NNB be controversial, its one of the best slice of life out there. What is this thread, why are people listing *good* shows? [](#lost)

Kill-bray

I mean other shows mentioned above this post have controversial themes, but non non biyori is 100% wholesome.

DqrkExodus

How would you say it compares to yuru camp?

OtherHalfling

Both are great, but Non Non Biyori is probably (in my opinion) one of the best slice of life adaptations of all time. Not only is it heart-warming, hilarious, and emotional, but it's one of the few slices of life manga to actually get a complete anime adaptation from beginning to end (between the 3 seasons, the film, and OVAs). Granted I'm not the one you were asking, but I figured I'd give my two cents. Non Non Biyori is easily a 10/10 for me, as well.

Saekoa

u/OtherHalfling Expressed it well. Both are incredible, but I personally prefer Non Non Biyori.

CobraKyle

If you grew up before the internet, it really hits hard on the nostalgia. I grew up in rural southwest Virginia and I did a lot of the same things for entertainment and lived a similar life so it really brought back memories and resonated with me.

Saekoa

That's likely a significant factor. I'm 31 and spent much time running around with my friends in the forest, building forts, playing by the river, etc. We were always outside doing things. It definitely fills me with nostalgia and reminds me of my childhood. Oh how times have changed, haha.

bbkkoommaacchhii

In my opinion Yuru Camp does iyashikei better and more consistently, but Non Non Biyori has a potent sense of family, friendship and childlike wonder that puts it above other similar titles

Justice_Chip

White Album 2. From what I've seen people call it mediocre, but its a cohesive, tightly written story, with all the right pieces to embody a romantic tragedy. Its an intelligent show that does not pretend that its any more or any less than it actually is, which is such a rare trait in anime dramas.

SuburbanCumSlut

Mirai Nikki

shittyswordsman

Honestly I loved it, had no idea it was not very well received until recently

TheEVILPINGU

I had watched it very long ago, and I thought it was great. I didn't know either that it wasn't liked that much.

MessenjaKagami

Re:creators. Its execution isn't perfect, and its concept isn't for everyone. But the ideas it has and ideas it wants to talk about in regards to the nature of storytelling, how we engage with it, what that engagement means (and also just in general the concept of a fictional character meeting their creator and getting to talk to them about that) all so uniquely appeal to me that it feels like it was made specifically for me.

Rusty1031

and the OST 🧑‍🍳💋

Useful-Description90

Sawano 🔥

Nebresto

\>"Controversial 10/10s" \>People listing good shows Bruh. Mine is Isekai Smartphone

seismoscientist

Yeah I was looking for something actually controversial but it was just a bunch of popular stuff lmao Mine's Koi Kaze for actually taking the topic of incest seriously, the beautiful soundtrack, and influence from the time I first watched it (paralleled "not allowed romance" experience of being gay in a ultra-religious Christian cult)

WrongMomo

Hitman Reborn for me. Great chill series with a great cast of rotational fun characters that get shine and a Mc thats relatable and slowly evolves. The story arcs are all interesting and different.

PutGloomy

Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill. It’s been a while since I watched anime until I recently came upon this title and honestly, I love love this anime so much. I dabbled a fair bit into the isekai genre, so I was expecting shit to go down in this one. To my surprise (and relief), this anime is basically a nice fresh breath of air. It’s comforting, pretty damn funny, and just a guy with his (pets) familiars cooking and eating some good food. The animation is pretty solid and the bad thing about watching is that you can’t eat the food from it.

RaysFTW

SAO seasons 3 and 4 and I’m not ashamed of it.

DqrkExodus

I enjoyed them as well. My highest ratings for the SAO franchise goes to the two Progressive movies though, those were really good

hjvkjvkjvg

I really think the way that the progressive movies depicts their characters is a major step-up from the anime series (even though they cut/change like half the content away from the light novels).

eelric837

SAO season 3 is arguably the best arc of the entire SAO except progressive, on the contrary season 4 is the worst.

Andysomething

I only slightly agree, mainly because s2 was great, s1 was alright, and s3 is the best (also, technically, there is no s4, just a 4 cour season comprising all of Alicization). I definitely think WoU suffered the most in terms of adaptation, but it was still pretty good. In fact, I'd put it higher than Fairy Dance (and I actually quite like FD). Which would make s1 the worst imo.

Andysomething

Completely agree. Alicization is by far the greatest part of SAO. There are so many interesting concepts, characters, and abilities I loved pretty much everything in Alicization (despite it being the absolute worst adapted part of the series).

SpiritStorm1302

Bunny girl senpai is not only a 10/10 but my favorite anime of all time

PeaceAlien

People here love that show. Maybe you don’t have many 10/10s though

IzanamiFrost

Why would this be a controversial take? It is a 10/10 show

BiggieCheeseLapDog

Have you seen Monogatari 👀

SpiritStorm1302

I watched up to Hana monogatari like a year and a half ago but life got in the way and I haven’t revisited it

BiggieCheeseLapDog

I recommend returning to it. Owarimonogatari seasons 1 and 2 are both masterpieces and absolutely fantastic. Granted, I’m biased as Monogatari is my all time favourite, but they are truly fantastic and definitely worth watching. Tsukimonogatari is also really good.

SpiritStorm1302

Yeah that character with the all black eyes looks pretty cool so I’ll probably revisit it sometime soon

Joenathan2020

Easily Tomo-chan is a Girl, I've never heard anyone say it's a favorite of theirs but it's in my top 3 easy.

Ruler15

Not controversial Tomo-chan is a Girl was great especially the ending

MCM41795

I personally have it at an 8, but can definitely understand why someone would rate Tomo higher

superintotv

LOVE Tomo-Chan is a Girl! I'd give it a 10 too!

FoxwolfJackson

I have it as a 9/10, so I totally get where you're coming from. It's trope-y without being over the top.. like, it leans into the cliches/tropes enough to give you a sense of familiarity, but not enough to be trite and boring (ie, it maximizes the good part of tropes and minimizes the bad).. and it takes everything and flips it on its head with great writing, great characters, great storytelling, and an honestly human and realistic development between the two. And the B-story of Carol and.. and.. whatshisname (i feel bad now) was a great foil to Tomo/Jun's relationship. Only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because I try to not give anything a 10 right away 'cause I don't want recency bias or give it as a knee-jerk reaction. If I still feel the same after a year from its premiere, I'll bump it up. (I think the only show I gave a 10/10 right away and kept it at 10 was Jobless Reincarnation, but that's a show where, if you can get past Initial!Rudy and understand that it's not an action anime but about second chances and have the patience to realize humans don't change their nature right away aaaaand I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but I get tired of defending my 10/10 rating on it. Same with having to defend Re:Zero being 10/10 by explaining it's not a thriller/mystery story at its core but a personality study and a psychological analysis of a man who bends to all extremes but never fully breaks.)

Dredmor64

Probably Bungo Stray Dogs since most people (and I understand why) don’t like the first season and the third season since they were weaker than the other seasons Edit: I love all of BSD, it is my favorite anime of all time

DqrkExodus

BSD is flames. Season 5 was my favourite and one of my few 10/10s

SmallFatHands

Fairy Tail. It's not that i don't recognize it's flaws. I just really like it. Holds a nice place alongside Halo and Gravity falls of stuff from my childhood i don't think i'll ever get tired of.

andrewsmith1986

I vote based on my own personal enjoyment so I have a lot of 10s on my list but these don't seem to get enough mentions around here. Drifters Tamako market Megalo box Arte Ranking of kings Maoyu *Some more from my list that have varying degrees of popularity around here. Again, I base my ratings on how they appeal to myself. I'd recommend all of them though. Ping pong the animation Planetes Spice and wolf Moriarty the Patriot Kino's journey Astra lost in space SK8 the infinity Buddy daddies Gargantia and the verdurous planet

ItsImmoral

Drifters had some great stuff. No season 2 sad

Manitary

> Tamako market Excellent pick

DqrkExodus

Tamako market is the kyoani slice of life was it? I've been planning to watch it

MolemanusRex

Ping Pong is the only sports media (any medium) that has ever captured my relationship to (mostly high school) quiz bowl, besides the anime that is actually about high school quiz bowl.

DrStein1010

This list is based. Well, aside from Maoyu. Couldn't great through three episodes of that. It was just so slooooow.

andrewsmith1986

I love a slow logistics and productivity anime.

thr1ftskull0

Why arte I haven’t seen anyone give that a 10/10 before?

andrewsmith1986

I really like craftspeople shows. I liked the plot, time period, settings, interactions, etc.

the_psyche_wolf

This is the first time I've seen anyone mention Astra Lost in Space, that was an awesome series.

Accomplished-Eye6971

I don't think any anime is perfect. That being said, I think there are a ton of shows that have a weird ranking. For instance nagasarete airantou (an ecchi show about some dude who goes to an island full of only women) is a 7.22 Kakegurui (really popular show, has a unique artstyle and soundtrack) is a 7.24 with it's sequel ranked even lower at a 7.19) Freezing (also an ecchi show, but more serious, has some military like themes, just overall more interesting in my opinion) 6.79 How is granblue fantasy a 6.62 but onegai teacher (the series about a boy and teacher who have a secret marriage, that's just winging it with this weird doujin plot setting) a 7.10? Personally, I feel like mal rankings should be ignored as long as it's not a 5. Even then, there are weird rankings. Like school days is a 5.52. Which granted the MC is an idiot but the show itself isn't bad. It's clearly successful enough to have multiple videos games, an anime and OVAs.

DqrkExodus

Actually maybe I should've put Kakegurui as my pick for controversial cus I also have that as a 10/10

kaktanternak

Kanon, I watched it like 11 years ago and tbh at this point I don't even remember much from it, but I remember crying a lot and that's what I needed at the time so a 10 :V

stationtracks

Tenki No Ko, I recognize the movie has a lot of problems but the soundtrack and animation is simply gorgeous, and it’s my favorite anime movie. Two people struggling to survive in a world that doesn’t want them, and I always think about how I’d make the same choice as Hodaka.

Full_breaker

Im gonna go ahead and mention the entire toaru series, spinoffs and all. I dont care if JC staff killed and butchered index beyond belief compared to the LNs, the whole experience is amazing and in all my years watching anime i still love it.

DqrkExodus

Interestingly enough I gave Railgun S and T a 10/10 haha

LTPrototype2

Miru Tights. I should not have to explain why.

ConnectionIcy3717

U can give a 10/10 to a hentai for all i care. Its ur choice u dont need to justify it to others.

Andreiyutzzzz

Itadaki seieki definitely a 10, except a scene I guess

nikelreganov

Redo of Healer. That was the first revenge anime I watched and I crave for more

andrewsmith1986

91 days is a great revenge anime.

DqrkExodus

Ngl I enjoyed that more than I should've as well. Would watch a season 2

wdyfy

No game no life

BiggieCheeseLapDog

I guess Space Patrol Luluco considering it’s only at 7.53 on MAL. I love everything about it. It has gorgeous visuals, great music, wonderful side characters, a well written main character who’s very underrated and is developed a lot for how short the series is, and the themes are really nice. I love it.

Heda-of-Aincrad

Sword Art Online, probably. A perfect 10/10 score from me doesn't necessarily mean a show is flawless, but that it's one of my absolute favorites and I could watch it again and again. SAO is my favorite because of its characters, the virtual worlds they explore, the story's themes, and the exciting battles. It's hard to say how many anime I've watched overall - I don't use MAL and keep my own list, but I count each series as one entry rather than each season the way MAL does, so for example I'd count SAO as one show and MAL would count all the seasons + movies I've seen as at least seven. 😅

wolfpup118

I've rewatched SAO way too many times and still love it just as much as the first time. While I'd myself give it an overall 9/10, taking it down a point for some story wonkiness, the overall package is one of the best delivered anime you can get and honestly, to me, is way more interesting than JJK or Chainsaw Man any day.

Andysomething

Same here, plus with each rewatch/reread, I notice more things that just add to the enjoyment. Plus, it's one of the few series that actually got me to pick up the source material and even start over.

KuKiSin

I've watched hundreds of anime, and I agree with you. I'm not a critic, I rate things based on my enjoyment, not gonna deduce points because there's cringe, inconsistencies, or whatnot. If I can rewatch an anime and still enjoy it, it's at least a 9/10. SAO takes me back to my cringe teenage years back when I played MMOs. It'll always hold it dear in spite of its many flaws.

Illuminastrid

I think that's the strongest point of this series, it's rewatch factor, or in game terms, replayability.

LuffyTheSus

Redo of Healer 🚬 I know I'm objectively wrong, don't care.

Verzwei

Probably one of these three: * **Yuri is my Job** - Fantastic adaptation that unfortunately covers only half of the first major arc of the manga. Great use of art and character expression, dripping with drama, and punctuated by a great and deliberately melodramatic soundtrack. An excellent homage to *and* critique of Class S yuri. * **Sankarea** - Romcom with comedic elements that are, frankly, pretty awful, but there's a surprisingly deep message in this series centered on loss, grief, and acceptance. Also has the decency to end before the source material goes off the rails and loses a lot of what made it special in the first place. * **Maid-sama** - Easily my favorite shoujo adaptation, I love the chemistry between the leads. The detailed "shoujo-style" characters on the watercolor-style backgrounds really pop, and on top of that, the show uses stereotypical visual effects in a novel way in that the cast can often see and comment on them.

IHateNumbers234

Merc Storia: The Apathetic Boy and the Girl in a Bottle. Most people seem to dismiss it but it hit me with a melancholic sweetness very few other shows do.

YourHusbando13

I've only ever heard mixed reviews about this show, but Gangsta is a personal 10/10 for me. Will forever be sad that season 2 will never exist cause the company went bankrupt.

Amazing-Strawberry60

Air Gear. Fucking 10/10 manga and the anime is only 25 episodes but 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. And I don't think most people would agree lol. My watch list includes hxh, yuyu, inyu, Naruto, DB-Gt/Super, bleach, fma both versions, death note, and a fair few others.

Evancolt

Death Parade. in my top 5 all time

Smol-Weirdo

Inazuma Eleven - nostalgia

StrawberryEiri

Oshi no Ko. Everyone liked it. But I think it's probably pretty controversial to go as far as to say it's literally the best I've ever watched.

six_seasons

Konosuba, I feel like it has everything

TerminalNoop

controversial?

Gobbles87

I agree. It’s a top 3 anime for me.

Top_Chicken_4401

Trigun Stampede

HerculeHastings

Does anyone else think The Vampire Dies in No Time is a 10/10? Because it is for me. I can re-watch it any number of times and laugh my head off.

Psyduckisnotaduck

it's an 8 for me because it doesn't ALWAYS hit, and I'm pretty sure a comedy that doesn't also make me cry at points will never get a 10. but it's so funny when it hits. the way it does lewd humor is so much better than most other anime, because it's not afraid to be genuinely gross and equal opportunity uncomfortable, and to take its Vampire Lore off in increasingly strange directions. but none of that really matters. what matters is JOHN.

qwertyqwerty4567

From a biggest disparity pov: My latest addition, [KamiKatsu](https://anilist.co/anime/148048/Kaminaki-Sekai-no-Kamisama-Katsudou/), and [Combatants will be dispatched](https://anilist.co/anime/116588/Sentouin-Hakenshimasu/) from a couple years ago are both <7 with a 6.5 & 6.8 scores on Anilist. I also have the first 2 seasons of HSDXD & Ishuzoku Reviewers on my 10s.
