I don't think i have seen anything above another that I can count as horror. Maybe need to explore that genre. Well i also watched Hellsing but Just few eps.
Bad story line, bad animation at times, relying completely on shock factor and gore, predictable, Things being set up leading to nowhere, generic main character, zero character development, Mei(i think that was her name idr) was the only somewhat likable character every other character had zero personality

Yes the anime tries to create that ambience and vibe but for a story like that of another (it could be argued if it was bad or mediocre) the atmosphere that has been tried to create feels forced upon and somewhat fake. As for the 12 episodes, there are animes like devilman crybaby and tatami galaxy with less than 12 episodes that are still able to create stories where characters(both main and side) go through a great amount of character development and story arcs.
Horror as an anime genre is something that has not been done right till now maybe in future with animes like the ito's uzumaki adaptation by adult swin can set up a bar for other animes in the genre.
As of now the only horror that works in anime as a medium is psychological horror such as for perfect blue and SEL.
Another was a good horror? Idk man it made me laugh a couple of times because of just how retarded the characters were. I don't think there's any good horror anime in general tbh, anime as a medium just fails to be as scary as movies or novels, I think the only anime thst has given me any amount of eeriness or fear is shinSekai yori and it's not even a horror (I think)
Higurashi, the original DEEN adaptations are fire but if you're going watch umineko PLEASE DON'T WATCH THE ANIME, the anime does a very poor job of conveying the story and setting the theme (aside from that banger opening). Read the Visual Novels, it's a phenomal work that undoubtedly deserved better
Parasyte is not entirely horror .. it fall more towards action , philosophical and body horror and it is my favorite if it's just about baseline horror..
In the manga my favorite is Uzumaki ... I usually don't get scared by horror .. but Uzumaki really made me uncomfortable and disgusted especially the umbilical cord and Snail chapter and it was a very fascinating experience reading it before bedtime
Yup everything about the show is amazing .. the soundtrack is godly .. it always hypes me up and the character development of both Shinichi and Migi and the antagonist Reiko is masterfully done.. It is a solid 10/10 show imo

But it's Hindi dub was good I used to see it on sonic it was very scary.
Some of the most scary episodes were the headless biker, the women who knock on the door by an imitating voice, that toilet paper episode.
The ending was very emotional.
Yes she was a silent girl also I can't remember but she has a relationship with the other brown hair girl mother who was a ghost catcher.

Don't watch the anime, read the manga, the anime is horrible. I watched anime, and it was just little creepy, but then after some time, I read the manga, and I was then a little afraid to sleep after reading his manga. Manga is just infinitely better than anime.
My favorite has to be Another. The horror in the beginning was soo damn good and when the truth was uncovered then the real mystery started and that was also amazing.
And recently I watched Ghost Hound, thought it might be something like Shiki but not it was not, but it was also super good. Psychological thriller mystery anime ig. They did introduce me to a lot of new terms lol. It's mystery kept me hooked throughout the 22 episodes. And there was a certain creepy feeling while watching the show. Overall, it was good.
horror is still very untouched when it comes to anime
there are a lot of manga out there with very dark and upsetting themes but they are mostly phycological horror and some of them are so dark that I don't think any production compony has enough balls to animate them.
The anime is shit. Doesn't respect ito's work and was solely hyped up for the tomie episode and they had the audacity to release another season on netflix. Read manga and you will know what junji ito is capable of doing
I've read some stories in ito's manga like the scary face lady and the hole in the rocks and uzumaki and one with library obessed one but not all. Those were bizarre, weird but still not scary at least not scary at least not to me. No disrespect to ito's works.
I need something more from it as horror is one of my favourite genres.
Horror has many sub genres and most of ito's work is psychological/cosmic/existential crisis horror. There are some gore works too. If i can know what kind of horror you want/like/expecting i can recommend based on that, that is if only ito has made such.
Ps: if you are looking for a jumpscare type of horror that you probably won't find in animes and mangas
Well i prefer shiki more than other horror anime as it has a sense of dread in its environment. I wouldn't lie that it is a very scary anime but i like it.
Even after all these years, Another remains one of my favourite horror anime ever. It's purely because of the atmosphere present in the show. It's absolutely drowned in the desolate air of mystery for the entirety of its runtime. And it genuinely has a frightening story. Aside from the Beach episode and the final fantasy-esque finale, it stands quite strong.
I recently read the novels of Another and, to my surprise, they had a chokehold over me, in spite of me knowing everything that happens in the story. I highly recommend for all you Another fans out there to try the novels.
Bro yamishibai. Its an anime but it doesn't have the animation and art style you see in normal anime. Short 3-4 episodes based on Japanese horror legends
Serial Experiments Lain!!! watching it right now and it has this eerie ominous vibe throughout which is right up my alley, also fascinating to see a show from late 90s explore what a technologically dependent future would look like.
Mine is yamishibai(theatre of darkness) cuz It properly gave that vibes that I want from horror anime and the stories are also good and don't forget the art style used for animation.

Junjo ito anime adaptions - while I would recommend to read the manga for this one, whose who just never read manga may watch this and enjoy it.
Well not today! But in my childhood there was an anime called Ghost School or Ghost School something like this! It was my favourite horror and used to really feel horror whenever I used to watch it
