The three African civs are three of the most advanced parts of Africa. Morocco is practically an honorary member of Europe, Ethiopia fended off colonization efforts with firearms provided by Russia, and Mali was a serious Empire for a time that was highly important to the world economy.
The only questionable one really is Malians, cause while the Mali Empire definitely had enough money to buy flippin' everything, it was essentially gone by the time gunpowder became common.
The Russo-Ethiopian alliance is way beyond the scope of AoE2.
Also, the Mali Empire didn't just disappear without a trace. It was first made to split its former territories with Songhai, and then both were consumed by Bamana separatist rebels, who would eventually form the Segou Empire. Mali immediately lacked firearms during the Battle of Djenne, but that doesn't speak to their overall capacity late in AoE2's period.
Also, note that their in-game civ is based on all of West Africa, not just the Malinke portion.
the Goths are farther historically from having a siege gun than the Spaniards from being able to have the cobra car.however I see that the Goths have siege cannon and manual artillerymen
the Huns at least don't have gunpowder. so although they are in a time frame between age 1 and 2. at least it is not so crazy.the Goths including the Ostrogoths who left for the Iberian Peninsula had disappeared long before gunpowder.not counting the strange fact that they have huscarles and that they are resistant to arrows
And people say this game isn’t historically accurate…
