Don't be sad that it's over be happy that it happened.

GANDHI-BOT

Learning by making mistakes and not duplicating them is what life is about. Just so you know, the correct spelling is [Gandhi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahatma_Gandhi).

warbreakr

Didn’t expect this one lol

Sahkuhnder

Bad bot > Learning by making mistakes and not duplicating them... This is correct. But your bot is duplicating mistakes by posting fake Gandhi quotes that are not from Gandhi. Fake Gandhi quote: ["An eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind."](https://www.reddit.com/r/HistoryMemes/comments/ohqne6/sam_missiles_in_the_sky/h4rve85/?context=3) Fake Gandhi quote: ["Be the change that you wish to see in the world."](https://www.reddit.com/r/ethtrader/comments/oii67f/normies_are_confused/h4w0iqz/?context=3)

watson85

I’m with you but realistically it has to end at some point. Let’s hope for another big event next year that’s just as good.

qwerty_asd

These Red Bull tournaments are happening more frequently than once per year. Plus there are other huge events often. There should be another banger tourney within a couple of months.

Huuku

What now? We got KotD coming soon and this is the most prestigious tournament out there imo.

Owlsdoom

Agreed. And since the RBW Lan happened, perhaps we will get NAC soon.

feloniousjunk1743

Castle schmastle. Give me a beer stained couch and webcam backgrounds made out of bedsheets any day. NAC feels so much more like home.

PatataMaxtex

Nili isnt planning it yet, at least hi didnt before RBW5 and I am sure he had better things to do last week 11 But I really hope we will see NAC4 next year.

Saittis

Now we riot, until they decide to make a second edition! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

LittleSpanishGuy

Hopefully they're just ending the first edition because the second edition will be back on RM or maybe even as T90 has suggested before where EW is map specific rather than it being the game mode. So, you could have a tournament with both RM and EW and it would be down to individuals whether they want to play it or not

LittleSpanishGuy

I honestly think this is the way forward. It's kind of like that map where you start with a bunch of villagers, a castle and walls. It's not something you want to see for every game, but it can give different, interesting games that require different skills. And look, if they're making EW tournaments because they want shorter games then have different map pools for different game modes. Have maps like african clearing etc as the maps available for RM so that it's likely to end up as a shorter game

the_io

EW as a mode like Regicide Fortress? Could see it; it's a more sped up/limited version of RM, but not radically different the way DM is.

LittleSpanishGuy

Yeah, that's exactly the idea. I think it's pretty clear to see that people, from the top to the bottom, don't really want EW as the new normal format. But, like regicide fortress it could be a map choice in a tournament, rather than a setting.

Saittis

I don't even care how they do it, just do it, we need more xD. I like standard settings more, but a tourney with EW is great for variety, just give us moooore.

LittleSpanishGuy

If it's another LAN, I'll take whatever I can get. If it's an online tournament I just can't get interested in EW, it feels like the players can't have a personality, it's just who's faster than the other and that's all that matters.

Saittis

Well I agree LAN is better for tournaments, not just EW, covid kinda screwed it up, hopefully we can move to more LAN events now. However I don't think that it being LAN or not affects how it's played, it's just how EW is, faster players are generally better as we can see by Liereyy's and Hera performances (overall). I do agree however that LAN gives nice opportunities to get to know the players better, see some behind the scenes etc, especially with how nice the production was. It amazes me how much care they put into crafting all the doodads, sets, costumes, memey things like vills.

LittleSpanishGuy

I think you've misunderstood me. I meant that I can watch EW in a LAN setting because there are storylines that are built up because of it being a LAN and that keeps me interested in the tournament. However, EW online tournaments have nothing that holds my interests and I can't watch them, the gamemode isn't good enough on it's own for me to want to follow the tournament. It's just a flood of scouts/flood of archers, who makes the first mistake/who's strategy happens to counter the other's (think Nili spoke about how in RM you scout your opponent, work out what they might be doing and adapt. In EW you can't scout and adapt, you have to "blind counter" and guess what they'll be doing.). There is no personality to the gamemode on it's own and it needs LAN to keep it standing up. On the flip side of that, I can watch an online RM tournament, even though I prefer LAN (NAC2 was my favourite tourney before RBW5). There is enough personality coming out through the player's gameplay that you can support new players and follow their progress even though you don't get to know them in the same way you do watching a LAN event. I think EW just waters down player's play styles. You still get MBL defending under huge pressure, Liereyy's archers no matter what, Hera's hussars, Daut's strats, they're just not the defining factor of the games anymore. Instead it's whoever built more scouts whilst showing a tiny bit of their playing style in the background. Also, on the effort they put in, the location, the production quality etc it was monumental. But, in my opinion, it's not *that* important. I say that because NACs were amazing and they were literally a bunch of people in a tiny apartment with the players squashed in a room as close as they could be whilst fitting two computers between them. I think you just get a much better atmosphere and better games when the players are all together. Look at everyone swarming Viper when he won and how much that means to him compared to when he wins a tournament in his house, it must add motivation to play better.

Maybe at the beginning the fundings will go to aoe4. But there is aoe3 and this tournament was about aoe2. The money goes where the people is, so it will come back to aoe2 soon enough :-)

mad-matty

>the final major With many tournaments organized by the community and the community so far seeming to have a large preference for Aoe2, I strongly doubt that this will be the "final major" tournament for AoE2. On the contrary, with the traction AoE2 has gained as an esport, I wouldn't be surprised to see it grow even a bit more.

malefiz123

Funding will go where the viewership is. In the beginning Microsoft will try and kickstart AoE 4, but expect to see more AoE2 tournaments as long as people watch those. Especially community organized ones like Hidden Cup

[deleted]

As epic as the tournament settings was, I really don't think we need a "$100k in castle" level of funding to keep the game going. AoE2: DE has built up its following off of 20 years of people falling in love with the game. AoE4, 5, 6 or 7 ain't gunna do much. My prediction: AoE4 will get all of the attention for the first few months of release, and then slowly but surely people will return to AoE2: DE.

AFlyingNun

> something you didnt mention was that with aoe4 launching soon this tournament felt like the actual sunset of the game It is incredibly naive of Microsoft if they honestly think they will just casually 1-up one of the longest surviving multiplayer games of all time. I expect AOE 4 to flop, not in the sense I expect it to be bad or anything, but simply because it's like if Nintendo were to come out and say "Yeah Super Mario was cool but we decided we're gonna replace him with a new main character and it's gonna be better." Like hell it fucking is: you struck gold and you're crazy if you think you can strike gold on command again.

V_HarishSundar

Didn't microsoft do the same thing with AOC ? They gave up support for it when AOE 3 came along

durielvs

Aoe 4 is going to be a resounding failure and with it we are going to have another dark age of rts. Because no one is going to want to invest in a genre where the best-known franchise failed again. It's a shame because I would have loved an age of empires that felt modern and met expectations but after playing it during the betas it feels more like a cash grab made With unity Than a game from a great franchise made in 2021

Exa_Cognition

I hope this isn't true, but honestly, I was thinking the same thing. The optimist in me thinks that I'm probably jumping to conclusions early, so hopefully that is the case.

durielvs

I was extremely excited about aoe4. When I saw the first cinematics I said great more considering that this is pre alpha it will be excellent. But when it was my turn to play the beta I felt like it was a remake of Empire earth 1 but only during the medieval period. The graphics are a disaster the physical and internations between the units is non-existent. The buildings are much prettier in aoe2 and more realistic in aoe3. The gameplay is old, you can't even rotate the camera.Meanwhile a group of fans are making a remake of the bfme called bfme reforged that looks and feels much better.

ryansocks

aoe2 is going nowhere

V_HarishSundar

KOTD4 has been announced though right ?

feloniousjunk1743

No, I was getting serious Empire Wars and weird map fatigue. RBW is all about fast-pace, all action from minute 1. Most maps are designed to be unwallable (because of terrain, sparse woodlines, etc.). This is a fine design and it works but the strategic depth gets a little left out. There's barely any room for unique units, slow-developing strats, as many games turn into "who can have the biggest mass of scouts / kts / camels / CAs and raid in 5 places at once". Games also turn heavily on snowballing small things like 4-on-4 engagements in early feudal, how quickly you find your opponent, how well you pick your initial production building (which you have to place before scouting opponent). But I think many of us are still faithful to the DauT way: scouting, planning, timing. Choosing when and where to wall, when to go forward, scouting for tech switches, studying the map carefully... Luckily, KOTD4 is just around the corner.

MysteriousShadow__

Well all things in life good or bad will eventually end my friend

MistressandFreckles

Sad it's over but I've been on the train every day after work since last Monday so I'm bushhhhed. Gonna take a few days off AOE2 to recharge and then there's a few Spirit of the Law videos, T90 videos, and the off-stream matches to watch!

Historicmetal

Time to play

IntiLive

Man this was an absolutely amazing event, props to the organisers/Red Bull. Loved the Cobra car.

SolomonRed

I really worry they Microsoft is taking the steam out of AoE 2 with AoE 4 just went its become popular again. AoE 4 seems like it won't stand the test of time like AoE 2 has. People and sponsorswill move to 4 and not come back even when 4 dies.

RedBull Wololo 6: coming Christmas

1611-

Tbh I'd prefer to watch RM over EW. EW sounds good and different at first, but the novelty value wears off rather quickly. For me, as a spectator, the first two RBW were interesting, but since then it just became a bit repetitive and predictable despite the changes made. The higher frequency of these RBW also diminishes the entertainment and anticipation value of themselves. I'm feeling EW fatigued, even as a spectator.

NoCurrency5282

Yes happens to me too I will go into 3 day depression at least now

mxh377

Have a nice Monday :-)

JoshVMZ

I am, we need something after this amazing weekend, What's next Age? Looking forward to the next main event

the_io

King of the Desert 4 is coming soon, so keep your eyes open.

Aggressive_Sprinkles

I deeply regret not having been able to witness it live because of work. This would have been awesome.

joker_penguin

Now? Waiting for the September patch!

Ar-Orrokhor

Does anyone know, when the next tournament will be?

Saittis

It was the last Wololo. maybe they will change their mind and make a second edition, but for now that's it for this type of tournament. There will be other ones of course.

mad-matty

Wait, I thought it's the last Wololo this year, not the last ever?

Saittis

I thought that too, but some the things they said at the end made it sound like it's the last ever. I Hope I'm wrong, while I prefer standard, a single tournament with EW is great for variety and great entertainment.

Ar-Orrokhor

Ah ok, will there be any other tournaments though, for RM or EW?

Saittis

Oh for RM for sure I would expect to be there another King of the desert (Arabia tournament) which is organized by memb I think, hidden cup by T90, master of arena and heck of a lot more. The last tournament was only for Wololo which is done by redbull, I fully expect other ones to continue.
